      Wild Malaria appears!
Wild Anti-Vaxxer's says "Mosquito bites to apply vaccines!? I'm not gonna give my child THAT!"
      It's not very effective.
Scientists used Modified P. falciparum Genome!
      It's super effective!
      Malaria fainted.

It's all a matter of personal preference. I find the discomfort of a mosquito bite very small relative to the discomfort of an injection, even when factoring in the itching. Lab grown mosquitoes would be free of any other disease. Personally, I wish all my vaccinations could be delivered via mosquito.

These scientists deserve the Nobel prize considering that Malaria is the #1 cause of human deaths in our history. It made the mosquito by far, the most deadly animal man ever encountered.

    • @TheFalrinn
      @TheFalrinn 7 років тому +2

Lets wait until we know it's effective (as opposed to simply not in itself dangerous) in humans. But if it is, and it works in a high enough percentage of the population to create herd immunity, then they deserve not just the Nobel Prize in medicine, but literally every prize that covers the field of medicine, if only on a technicality.

I am well aware that the majority of the world uses kilometers for distance and speed and have no problem with you saying that a hummingbird goes from staying in place to moving at 50 km per hour. For those of us that are I the USA and grew up on miles per hour or miles in general can you at least put a parentheses with how many mph that would be. I understand that you guys are appeasing the majority with the kilometers measurement but you are alienating those of us that are more familiar with miles. Thank you

It would reduce teenage pregnancies along with slowly controlling population in this world where we as a species are living so much longer

How come we spend so much effort in keeping more people alive when that only makes the future more grim. The more people, the more food they need, the more energy they consume the faster we drive ourselves to Global Climate Change. More people only makes everything worse. And yet we do everything we can to make more people live longer.

As an individual with an incurable disease that kills 1 in 4, basically yes. I have to fall back to Mr. Spock, "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.” What's the point of curing cancer if the planet is going to kill billions due to global warming? If we don't get some sort of handle on population growth, malaria, cancer, etc, will be drops in the bucket of things that cause death.

    • @MrHSX

If we stop then there's no point in our existence. Some debate the entire point of life is to give birth to new life.
We are also capable of solving these problems by changing our behavior. We can (and are!) slowing down climate change. It is also for the greater good to solve the root of the problem (us), which can be done in two ways, 1) Keep the number of humans (roughly) constant, or 2) Change everyone so that more of us can exist without being a burden on the ecosystem.
We as a species are choosing the the second, because of we care about each other, and the second option doesn't involve a close family member dying for 'the greater good'. "Not having the problem in the first place" is a good solution to most problems, but having these problems and then being forced to solve them leads to pretty awesome things!
We make more effort for other people to live in this world because we want to show them the awesome stuff that we have experienced during our time here, and watch them grow up to show it to the next generation.
Yes we our sloppy and have made some mistakes as a species, but that isn't a reason to stop!

felixthecrazy Hans Rosling has a pretty good talk on this and the problem wouldn't be quite as big if more people were vegans and zero wasters.

But then there really is no point in living if we had to live a vegan lifestyle.

A vaccine in a mosquito sounds really useful actually... Can't you potentially spread a mass vaccine like that, just like the real virus spreads?

  • @scienceaddict77

Why can't they just keep using mosquitoes? I'd rather be vaccinated by them than the traditional poke and squirt.
