It's funny how random, sporadic music has the ability to scare us so much. There is nothing inherently scary about this except that there is no rhyme or reason to the notes.
Abby R well it helped was the association of scary movies to this off key, sporadic music. The true genius is the person figured out if you put these two together it becomes increasingly scary....issue is now movies tend to rely on this too much. Some times pure silence can be far more scary as we can imagine it in real life, in a dark room where scary things are happening and its pure, deadly silence, the void of anything being around truly terrifies most humans.
Higher keys, it can be associated with something like screaming, etc. Some types of music are known to cause anxiety because they sound similar to a baby crying.
Whoever composed this was a genius. When I heard this track in the movie I experienced many things. Fear, anxiety, dread, terror, everything. Even after seeing the movies so many times there's just something about this soundtrack that makes me feel uneasy, it's like my safety is being violated when I hear this, and that's amazing. The part that spooks me the most is 1:46 ...
This soundtrack is what specifically got me scared shitless as a kid. I remember watching it alone at night, and after i finished the first one. Had the tv on all night watching cartoons, i was also afraid of the dark.

I remember being like 11 or so watching this movie with my cousins and whenever the credits starting rolling we didn’t feel like turning off the tv or volume, because we were pretty tired (it was 2 or 3 am at night) so we just went to sleep. Anyway that song came on and the part with the loud freaky violin at 1:45 started playing and can I just say this woke us all up and absolutely petrified us lmao we was all “GUYS GUYSSSSS WHAT THE HELL IS THAT” we all started panicking and couldn’t find the remote (whole room was pitch black except for the tv) anyway one of us mustered up and running for the actual tv to manually turn it off while screaming “no no nooo no stop” I must say 9 years later this song still gives me horrible goosebumps from that

Running out of the room, I met MY grandmother, who asked me what happened and why I wasn’t sleeping. Before I had time to answer, they started knocking on the door of our house from the street. I tearfully begged my grandmother not to open it, but she said that some friend of hers was supposed to come and she was waiting for him. (And in the next room the window is on the side of the front door) I go into this room, hearing my grandmother already inserting the key into the lock, and I see this creepy old woman in the window with the same smile as in the end, then I run to my grandmother, but before I reach I hear her opening the door....
