Pity dry clutch has to go through...and whoever the next owner is who'll have a big job of replacing it.

We are, that's why we can play with $25k toys instead of $5k toys and not worry about it or get our panties in a wad. Not to mention, any of the 3 of us involved in the video would have no trouble fixing whatever might have been damaged. We all build/rebuild/restore/race, etc. The bike was sold with something like 50k miles on it and had no issues at all, still ran like it was new. I guess BMW builds a stronger machine than most people give them credit for.

Yup, Great Bike, have done burn outs (wet & dry (on slick hangar floor)). But I burned my clutch out @ 50K (lot of MSF teaching and slow-bike gaming/riding). Looking forward to the 6Cyl version!

I own one of these, and doing a Burn Out isn't something I would consider doing on it? They are a fantastic touring bike, which is primarily what I bought it for.

Perfect......... the best way to ruin the clutch and the tire!😉

I guess these bikes aren't as poorly designed as some people think. 50k miles later it was functioning flawlessly.

    Simply a great looking bike.

I've had one of these in the garage since 2000 -- I'm not aware of any model that had power steering or power mirrors. 2001 and later models did have power brakes, but I'm not sure it was a positive thing. =8-o

I own an Lt after many Harley,s. I bought it to be my Touring Bike and 60 thousand miles later it has been my best touring bike ever,, Call it what you want, yeah it is ugly, but it is the greatest long distance riding machine

They are equipped with traction control. You had to disable it to get it to smoke the tire. The traction control was doing its job when the bike would not smoke the rear tire.

A Babbit There is not traction control on an LT. ABS sure but not traction control

Congrats, did you replace your clutch yet? Supposedly these bikes can't handle a little fun time.

This one still has the stocker, I think it has around 25k miles on it now.

Thanks. It's my friends bike. He was told it wouldn't do a burnout due to the braking system. We just had to find out :).

Obviously you failed to READ the comments below yours. People like you were the reason for making the video. That, and entertaining the K1200LT forum, I just needed somewhere to host it. The owners last bike was a busa. He's been riding/racing for 20+ years, no practice needed. These bikes will not do burnouts, even in water.... due to the proportional braking system they have, practice isn't going to overcome that, it will just fry the clutch. Yes alternative....water doesn't work....

I got one and your right, a good rider can get his bike to do anything. I did a burnout , dry/dry.

@Drumybum you get 2 3 types of bike riders
    1) Harley Davidson riders
    2) BMW riders
    3) the rest...

illinoisBMWriders That bike is LONG gone. I think he put another 40k miles on it after that, and then sold it back to the BMW dealership.
