I just picked up a pair of these tonight after work. I thought they looked sick and they were at REI, who I tend to trust. I am greatful to hear people like them. I am far away from my thru hike but these will get me through shorter trips
Good review Dusty..I pretty much stopped running trail races and marathons..both have gone over the top in pricing..much like triathlons did..I used speedgoat exclusively for racing and I still use them for trail running..I use the Solomon Pulsar S-lab for any races that have a some road miles mixed in with dirt roads and trails..the weight is great and still has the cushioning for 10k races..still if I was gonna race a long trail race it would be in a speedgoat..I can't say about the durability of the 5 but the 4 was just about indestructible..even well over 100mi they look new..

Great honest review! I used to run in Asics trails, which also have great grip. However, ever since I suffered a knee injury a few years ago, Hoka has become my favorite brand. I appreciate you mentioning that they're great for walking too, especially in case of joint injuries. My Speedgoat 3 pair lasted for four years of walking, and although they look terrible now, I really enjoyed wearing them :) I hope the quality of the Speedgoat 5s will be just as good.

Thanks for your review. My two pair of the 5s each lasted less than 50 miles. Both tore out portions of the uppers. Sticking with Norda. I have zero wear after 300-plus miles in the 001. Better shoe in every respect and will use next month in a 200 miler. Hoka has fallen off the rails in terms of quality, except for the Tecton X, which is a worthy race shoe.
That's high praise for Norda! Where did your upper tear?
@@RunningWithDusty in both it was the eyelet chain. Routine lacing each time. Norda is the real deal - expensive but worth it. Thanks again!

Would you recommend trail shoes over road shoes for the Victoria 70.3?
Thanks, great review. I wish this model would come in different colours. I have trail shoes in the two colours they offer. Would you recommend Speedgoat 5 for a little more icy snowy trails? Where I am in Canada is about to get cold and slippery soon. I cannot decide between this one and Cloudventure Waterproof for that purpose.

I would choose Speedgoat over Cloudventure waterproof.

Would these be good for aggressively inclined mountain trails? I've been using my Cliftons, but the trails have worn them out and been looking at these.
