Great work, it’s something I haven’t seen before and I thought is impossible. The detailed „camera“ work with the little shakes is outstanding! Sure the buildings are awesome and tell a story (which is rare) but your editing makes it unique.
Really loving the level of realism you've captured in your city. Trash, imperfections/weathering, graffiti, these elements really bring the build to life. Keep up the amazing work!
For quite a while I’ve been interested in building a layout for my Lego trains, and a factory with a chimney was something I thought would be a great inclusion. I’ve debated on whether to make it abandoned or not, or to build it in a midi scale to make building it easier, but I’ve not got an answer. You’ve given me some ideas.
I love those imperfections you added when you do the timelapse, containers moving around slightly in the background. The build is great, perhaps the best thing I've ever seen, but even so, it's almost like the videos are the *real* work of art!
Amazing! Would love to see some "behind the scenes" of your modeling process, lighting, materials, nodes etc. Really enjoying watching your build unfold!
Wow, as a kid, I drove by the factory building you were inspired by countless time as I lived around that area. Incredible seeing it used as inspiration for your build! I am loving your builds so much and can't wait to see where you take your city!
The amount of detail is insane! Really love the new factory, that elevated spur section that runs into the building is a such a cool feature. I’m already excited for the next one!!
Obviously it being all blender is amazing, but the other side.. that this is just a worn down unglamerous part of a city also makes it really interesting. Not a lot of people really build this kind of stuff, so to see it come to live as LEGO is really cool!
as a fan of urban planning your videos are amazing and using direct references and realism to make your city gives it so much life. younger me wouldn't be able to comprehend this level of detail you can put into a lego model even though it isn't real. keep up the great content
I like that even with unlimited bricks and space you still have to (choose to?) selectively compress the structure to keep the parts you want while reducing how much it dominates your project. I also find your techniques inspiring despite it not being a tangible build.
I enjoy observing Lego city builds, but your version has the most realism. Love the alleys, dumpsters, garbage cans, random refuse and all the rest. Sadly it's an undeniable reality of our cities but very cool that you're incorporated it into your build.
Back at it again with yet another yearly update! I do get it though, ik these types of videos can take a LOT of time, and just with one person working on it? Just insane. Love the series, you're doing an incredible job.
Amazing, again. IMO what brings your city above all others (and I mean all others, on every UA-cam channel, ever) is your unique industrial concept and the scale model approach you brought to the build, with photographic references, weathering, detailing. This is a stunning piece of work. As many said already, the video editing makes it even more so… what you achieved is simply unbelievable. Overall, this is the best ever Lego project I’ve ever seen, and it will never get covered in dust. Looking forward to the next one!
I love your commitment to capturing the spirit of all the run-down, ugly, downright gross areas of town. Somehow eyesores in real life look great in LEGO!
I honestly didn't know it was a fake city until now. I watched the last episode and this one and wondered why it was called a Digital City in the first place. Phenomenal work!
looks even better than the last one - the small details you add make all the difference, and loved that you showed us some of the builds in progress. If only more Lego cities on YT focused on specific areas and make them as realistic as possible, rather than a whole city with Lego modulars - that's what makes yours unique, it's so real and a reflection of real world architecture and scenes
@@hitthebricks5502 me too - still a work in progress as it uses a ton of bricks, but getting there! When you see some UA-camrs who have 300-400 sq ft for Lego and it's mainly modulars - would be great to see more like Canosie Labs - good luck with yours!
ive never seen anything like this... this is the defenition of what floats in our heads when we think lego city. very well done! also i would love too see some old rusted down shunter parked on a desolete track. would give a cool old days factory lookback to what used too be working there XD
Each video my mind gets in this back and forth state. its real! ITS NOT REAL. ITS REAL!!!! ITS NOT, ITS CGI!!! but it looks so real! Absolute stunning, love the details on even trashcan on the side :D You ever gonna do a 'this is how it looks in blender' video?
Very interesting idea to have photoreal renders of a city. Definitely more flexible (and cheap!) than building it in reality. Are you planning to eventually build it physically or is it just a fun exercise?
hi, its more of a fun exercise. I did do some HO scale modeling in the past and even some lego. I just don't have space or money for it now. I'm now selling off my HO scale stuff.
Still can’t believe this is all made digitally. I appreciate you announcing that in every episode especially for new folks joining in Super curious how long does it take you to do the builds themselves?
The time designing and construction of the buildings can very. Sometimes a few days. Rendering though, it takes a while. It takes about 2 mins per frame at 30fps. So rendering takes days, usually overnight. Sometimes I have to tackle a Blender(rending) specific issue which might take a few nights as well to figure out.
1:57 you're half right. The stacks are for boilers, but they would have been power boilers, making steam not only for heating, but also for production processes and possibly even for mechanical and electrical power in the form of reciprocating steam engines, and if it was late enough possibly turbine dynamos. A horizontal engine might be a fun easter egg to add to the inside of the build, possibly visible through some windows in the side of the boiler and engine rooms
Is it possible to make timelapses of the buildings that you make? Sometimes you do some small things to show how you build them but I think it'd be a lot more interesting to see the big buildings get build. I dont know if thats possible with the way you build it digitally but just wondering ^^ love the content
thanks for the feecback. I have to see how I can do this without being too boring. Some of the buildings are too big. hmm maybe not a brick-by-brick timelapse but something like that. Thanks again.
Seeing the whole build being made but very sped up, (simularly to how minecraft timelapses are made if you're familliar with that) would be very cool to see. I'd totally understand if that isnt possible to do though. If its too much extra work to do something like that I wouldnt bother :D
First time watcher here. The camerawork is amazing, I for the first minute or so I thought it was real (didn't read the tiltle). Edit: It's amazing how much effort went into making this looks natural, like moving around some of the pieces and drawers in the building portions.
Love the use of reference work! the close up camera work is really fun for seeing all the details but it would be nice as well to have some wider or maybe overhead shots. It has been a bit hard to follow the layout of the city in these videos.
Amazing build again! Is it an idea to zoom out to see the entire area at the end of every episode? It would make you appreciate the way the city is growing. I would love to see that
on that area in the beginning i think where those darker pieces were it would be cool when you build a ban to make a tunnel into the vault using the retaining wall
If youre located in toronto i know a few of those buildings you talked about. torontos distillery district and along the lakeshore are really good refs of the buildings that match your style.
This series already has top notch production quality, I loved every episode so far, keep up the great work! PS: the way you introduce actual building structures and real world references is amazing
If you're doing a sort of Canadian 80s-90s town, the ideal locomotive for industrial work would've been a CP Rail SW1200RS, would be real neat to see you make! Great work as always, can't wait for next episode
yeah that's a good idea. I was thinking of using a SW1200 or GP7/9 (something high hood). Maybe one of those GE 50 ton switchers. I've been building a few boxcars in the past days.
It would be really cool to have a video showing us how we could start our own Virtual Lego Cities like this - maybe that's just me being lazy. Big opportunity for Lego to release high quality building software, probably sell more Lego off the back of it too
thanks!. I think I would release instructions though it would be tricky since the buildings aren't done in one IO file. The other issue is that while all the builds are physically possible (ie they all connect) I think they need reinforcing on the inside to keep them standing up. I don't include all that unseen junk bricks used for hold up buildings on the inside for rending performance reasons - and they are not visible.
This is great! The Bricklink designer programm "Old Train Engine Shed" would fit in perfectly in this city. Any idea to create something similar to it?
hmm, yeah, good question. I think they are not truck ports, but just garage doors now. I don't think a truck can back into those doors. I envision a straight truck backing into the yard as much as possible, with the front still on the sidewalk and maybe on the road with workers hand off loading cargo though those doors.
This is looking so good. Still can't get my head around this not actually being real
thanks!
Same, but mostly because I don't have a clue on how it works
@@RobertDoornbosF1By using software as listed in the description: BrickLink Studio to build and then export and render in Blender.

This is the most detailed, realistic Lego city I've ever seen. Kind of ironic that it's actually LESS real in terms of actually existing.
