As a structural/civil engineer, I find Carla to be very good at getting across some of the underlying mechanisms around things like housing ownership structures and rail. I wish more people had a grasp of the need to address how systems work.

Even though I am passionate about voting Green I think that is the right thing to do. I can't stand softball interviews even when I support the candidate.

It has the 2nd worse recycling rate in the country, the highest cost of living relative to earnings int the country INCLUDING London, and in the mean time they are protesting against nuclear power plants to support the transition to fully renewable. Oh, and they object to solar farms on fields that could be used to grow crops, want to increase the size of the green belt, and again don't want houses built in fields where crops could be grown. How are they any different to the Tories?
@@RGBmode funnily enough I had this exact debate with my local green about nuclear energy and he agreed with me and you on the subject. The green party candidates don't have to tow the entire party line and are happy for their own representatives (as stated in this video that you clearly haven't watched) that they allow that. So it's perfectly possible with enough support that they would change their stance on it. I also suggest not believing all the NIMBY crap you read without researching yourself. I get it's easy to have an opinion based on headlines and sound bites but if you strongly want to protest and speak out about something you really should make sure that you're well informed with the facts first..
Thank you Carla for mentioning filling empty homes. We have around a million empty homes as noted by the group Action on empty homes. Filling these houses would not only be quicker than building new but would help to improve communities where empty homes are unsightly when they’ve fallen into disrepair, and turn tourist destinations into ghost towns in the winter.
Empty homes exist in every society, the UK has less empty homes than pretty much any other comparable economy. They also don't exist in the places we need them to. What are we going to do, tell a londoner he has to stop doing his job to move to the north because there's an "empty home" there. build. more.houses.
@@LimeyRedneck Because homes are empty for all sorts of reasons, you can't have complete occupancy, which means you always going to have spare houses - that is a good thing. The greens continuously block infrastructure and housing, including photovoltaics, because at heart they are not a green party - but a NIMBY one.
Bringing back Squatters Rights is what would most rapidly resolve this part of the problem, it's why those rights existed in the first place. Despite the (non-dom tax-exile billionaire) Daily Mail's campaign it was an essential Social Good through recent centuries.

I live in a pretty safe Labour seat, so I get to vote with my heart without having to stress over it. I'd rather use that vote to show there is support for thr Green party's policies. Even if they get a small boost on the last election.
I live in Bristol Central. Will absolutely be voting for Carla and so are many of my friends and peers. One of the few honest, erudite and genuinely progressive politicians in the UK today.
Especially when you compare with Farage and Reform. How many councillors do they have? How many MPs? Their growing support is a direct result of, the often uncritical, saturation coverage they receive. Imaging the Greens received comparable coverage. They would take scores of seats.

In most elections, tactical voting only makes sense in about 100 -150 marginals. In this election the Tories are going to lose as their support is down to around 20% Having Labour win with a 200 majority isn't good for democracy. Except in marginals, people should vote with their heart. Vote for a good Independent, Green or whatever.

And if you look at the PR systems we could use, and apply them to previous elections, there would have always been a liberal, centrist majority. Even though we don't have PR I'm still voting Green. I agree with most of their policies and think they have a pretty serious manifesto this general election. I think voting Green will send a very powerful message.

I read something someone wrote on Reddit the other day that I really liked. I probably won't remember it word for word, but it'll be pretty close: Political parties aren't taxies, expected to take you from exactly where you already are to precisely where you need to be; they're all of them buses. You might need to put in just a little effort to approach them, and they might not take you fully 100% of the distnace that you want to go, but there's still one that will suit you way more than all the rest, and it's still way better to take that one than to sit at home and go nowhere. For me, the Greens have at times been pretty much a taxi. These days, they're still, at least, by far the best bus for me to hop onto. And as a campaigner for them of around 5 years now, I'm seeing more and more of the public agreeing.
I wish they would interview politicians on the center and right too though. They seem to only talk to people on the Corbynite Left and it becomes an echo chamber.

I'm voting Green for the first time since voting Lib Dem and Labour in the past... If you're a progressive left-leaner like me, there's no other viable choice at the moment.

I'm progressive and centre-left and I'm going to be sticking with Labour. I've supported the party since joining via a trade union at 18 and I don't see any reason to stop now. I'm pushing 40 and would like another Labour government before WW3, if possible. We tried the student politics of the green party under Corbyn and we didn't win any elections. I voted for Jeremy Corbyn as leader both times because I too believed it could work, but it didn't. The opposition to the far-left that came with him was too much for the country and, honestly, with the Ukraine war, thank god Corbyn wasn't Prime Minister at the time, or we'd have another Chamberlain on our hands, appeasing an aggressive dictator.

Where I live, we can't even get a Green candidate elected to the local council or to the Wales Senedd in the regional vote. The Welsh elections used to use the additional member system of voting. Because of the D'Hondt system Labour was a wasted vote in the regional vote in South Wales East, South Wales Central, and South Wales West as they won 6 to 8 seats in the region on the constituency vote. So when they win all 8 constiuency seats in the region on the first vote, the votes for them in the second vote are divided by 9.
In the 2019 General Election, Carla Denyer won 25% of the vote in her constituency. In the local elections last month, all 14 council seats within the new Bristol Central area went to the Green Party. The only thing that could stop Carla being elected is the habitual two-party vote prompted by the FTP system. I'd be intrigued to see more detail on how the Greens are polling in the other seats around Bristol Central, if the majority of the public was in the know, perhaps we'd see more than one Green MP elected in Bristol.
If it's anything like around Brighton, not a chance. I live right on the border of Kemptown, 3 roads over and is be in Brighton pavilion. And yet i haven't received a single green leaflet and all of my texts as a green party member are to support Sian berry. Nothing about my green candidate or the one in hove. It's really disappointing. Just seen extremely close polling between Tories and greens in use of wight east, but it's not a target seat. The greens are great but their ambition this election is sorely lacking.

I explained to them that having voted for green for over a decade, this time we're switching to Labour due to the Green Party's agenda of wanting to re-join the EU. I support the people of Gaza but I do not want that conflict to be a priority of any UK political party, as the flyer for the Greens that came through my door said it was for them. The UK is neither a plucky little underdog nor is it a great power anymore. It’s is a middling country which is teetering on the edge of economic collapse. Thanks to austerity and Brexshit. So support Gaza all you want in your private life, I do. But right now there are many many issues more urgent to the UK. Including Ukraine. NIMBY tendencies exist in most parties, especially on a local level. I think first past the post has made it especially bad for the UK Greens since they have never held any national power because of it. Meaning that a focus on local politics as a party means the NIMBY stuff has more sway. Like the Greens opposing HS2 when the largest source of emissions in the UK is transportation is absolutely insane and I don’t think I know any European green party that would be opposed to something similar.
To be fair the same money could have been used on local bus connections throughout the country and had much more benefit and come in on budget and time
greens have been campaigning internally and so they dropped their opposition to HS2 in the most recent manifesto. obviously I want them to support it, but that kinda thing (and the opposition to nuclear) are things that we can and will push out of the manifesto over time, turns out internal party democracy is cool like that

@@matsui90 The whole “we should spend the money on another good thing” supposes that we need to keep the same level of investment in infrastructure as the Tory government. And while Labour doesn’t really intend to spend more, the Greens would surely want to increase the level of investment in green transportation. So that you wouldn’t need to cut the countries biggest investment in public transportation to do a different investment. Also if you really need to cut something why not cut spending on car infrastructure and highways instead? Also HS2 will have a huge benefit for local and regional transit, moving high speed trains off the West Coast Main Line frees up lots of capacity for local trains and freight on the line enabling much better local train services for the area around Manchester, and the West Midlands. This is the main reason that HS2 is being built, not to create quick travel times.

"They didn’t need to say anything" - I'd rather they were honest than played games for votes. One of the big reasons the country is on its knees now is because we've had far too many politicians who do the latter. Democracy functions at its best when the public actually know what they're voting for.

@@samuelmelton8353 There lies the issue. The Greens want to tax the middle and upper earners more given that the tax burden is the highest it's been in 70 years to pay for all the things they want. Rich businesses have already had corporation tax increase on them and also Capital Gains Tax which they use as a means of building wealth. What is never understood by the folks of "tax the rich" is that the costs of high taxation on big corporations are offset onto the consumers which are ordinary working class. Greens wants to tax assets over £10m that means supermarkets such as Tesco's, Sainsbury's and M&S etc and your cheap clothing brands such as Primark are going to get taxed more. So when you walk into these stores to buy items expect goods & services inflation to go up because they have to reach net margins that make sense for the business to keep operating in the same jurisdiction. If these businesses start to fail because consumers don't have enough money in their pockets to buy enough of their products at higher prices then the government has now lost even the paycheck they were getting before from these businesses and there's no growth. Also, there will be other businesses with those level of assets who will have to close down and move their business outside of the UK. Wealth leaving the country and government's pockets means they have to raise taxes MORE to compensate for the loss. The government has loans they took from BoE and at current high interest rates because of overspending as they usually do need to pay that money back, and so the cycle of high taxation continues until you're left with a country where operating privately owned businesses in the UK has no advantage due to ridiculous tax-laws so in essence you have no free-market capitalism. Only government who are responsible for producing goods and services and we already know what bad of a job they've managed to do with our healthcare as is which is a whole different debate. In Summary regarding the Green's manifesto, it sounds all nice on paper however their funding heavily requires the wealth of the rich. The UK has lost 16,500 millionaires between 2017-2023 and it is estimated we will lose almost 60% of that figure just this year alone (Source: Business Standard - Millionaires on the move: Where are the world's rich migrating to in 2024?) and with the lack of rich people and businesses around, our taxes go high. About why I said Green's manifesto is full-blown Socialism? Because in full-blown Socialism there's no such thing as free-market Capitalism and Green Parties policies are about destroying wealth from the rich which entails destroying the wealth of the poor and middle-class as I've explained previously. Greens manifesto summed up is we want to tax you harder than the uniparty, wipe out the upper and middle class and destroy the poor out of existance as the government fulfil the needs of society which would otherwise have been managed by much of free-market capitalism. This manifesto is by far the worst one I've read and does nothing to solve issues the working class currently face, if anything add more financial ruin into their lives as if it's not worse as is.

I actually agree with the greens on their conservation ethos - building extra homes and protecting Green spaces and historic building is not an either or. We are allowed to have nice things. NIMBYism is not party-specific, all of the main parties do it. It's a result of local government being a virtual gerontocracy in this country. I would rather be fighting inside the Greens to improve their housing policy than fighting inside Labour to get them to abandon neoliberalism & austerity.

By far the most important party in British politics today and the only one being honest about what is needed to really change things. They win my vote without a shadow of doubt.
A great way to make desirable policies more politically viable is to vote for them. Starmer will be the next PM, there's nothing anybody can do about that but we can use our votes to advocate the sorts of policies we'd like. Taxing the wealthiest 1%, real action on climate change, proper investment in public services & a green industrial strategy aren't part of Starmer's offer. All voting Labour does is rubber stamp a continuation of Tory fiscal policy & more Blairite middle eastern altrocities.
@@joefortey4 polling for Tory’s was quite high, it actually pushed Farage to withdraw candidates. Recent Labour wins in by-elections show the Labour vote share hasn’t increased at all, in some cases it’s actually dropped.
Carla is absolutely right about labour. They are very similar to conservative polities and as we’ve seen the way that when MP’s speak out against the leader (I.E. Gaza) they get banished. Yet labour has welcomed one of the most right wing conservatives into their party. I was honestly going to vote Labour. Yet the closer we get to the election the more I see that they are really no better. The greens are progressive, left wing, and they have good policies that support the everyday person, and to keep big corporations out of our politics and decreasing control away from private ownership is definitely the right way in my books. I am from Pakistan and I think the Green party should be in every country , especially the countries like Pakistan and India where Govts are not taking enough measures to aware the people for the importance of protecting the environment.
While the Greens could be a bit better on housing I think it's unfair to slap them with the NIMBY label. They want more housing, wanting it to be with the right infrastructure and to prioritise brownfield is both a good idea generally and is closer to being YIMBY than NIMBY, it's 'yes in my backyard, with a couple of caveats', and a truly NIMBY party wouldn't be pledging direct public investment in social housing.
I mean Carla's in Bristol and there's plans to slap cheaply built student housing in the centre of the high street, and ruin the entire historical thing of Bristol, and when the green councillors opposed it they were called NIMBYs for it. Same with the solar farm which was just moved over to a better place, added mammal gates, and employed locals instead of as remote jobs for Germany. Yeah they oppose more stuff than labour, for example, but the reasons are very valid and more an issue of how shitty the property developments has gotten than then greens being NIMBYs.
@itsbenbitch14 that's a good point, what we build matters, something lots of self-professed YIMBYs do care about, as they do care about the principles of good urban planning and so on, most of the stuff I know about urban planning is from people who call themselves YIMBYs, and I usually agree with them, but when people want to build stuff, but not the first thing proposed, and instead use those principles of urban planning, they get called NIMBYs
133k privately made houses in 2023. So an estimate would be around 283k homes a year with the greens. And they are right. We need to focus on building affordable cheaper homes for people to live in and if you want a bigger home work for it, but allow people to live in smaller homes and have their needs met. It lets people get on the housing ladder and save money they would otherwise pay on extortionate rent prices.
Brava Carla Denyer! I hope that the Green Party can build up strong support against Labour and Conservatives. Especially the former who's likely to gain power in the HoC, but who have changed under the leadership of Keir Starmer from a progressive left leaning party to the mirror image of the Tories. I want to wish the Greens every success and more, even though I cannot take part in this democratic process of the GE being a European passport holder. The people need to realise that FptP will not be introduced by the current two main parties, it is not in their interest to strengthen current smaller parties of different political persuasions. In order for FptP to be achieved these other parties need to be voted for in order to achieve coalitions. Only under those terms will Proportional Representation have a chance to become law.

They don't whip and they don't offer a change to planning law? House building is for people who dont vote, because they cant afford to live in a local council area.

i've voted green in every election so far and i definitely will be again, no other party is ever as ambitious as they are, and it's a lot of what this country desperately needs to ambitious about.
Oli can't seriously think that building houses without any national strategy is a good idea. They need to be organised around transport and the environment. This becomes even more poignant when factoring in the future of automated logistics - building random patches of homes according to the whims of profiteering developers will result in long term inefficiencies. Houses need to be built in such a way that they do not induce excessive car use, and so that they don't cause needlessly complex utility systems (plumbing, sewerage etc) and road infrastructure, which bumps up council tax and business rates. Houses need to be built in places that promotes the use of local businesses, stations, existing bus routes, existing waste collection routes etc. And as Carla said - there is little point in building homes that are bad quality or rip people off. They may as well live with their parents if they can't get decent accommodation or live somewhere they can start a family or a career.

Oh, and they object to solar farms on fields that could be used to grow crops, want to increase the size of the green belt, and again don't want houses built in fields where crops could be grown.

@@RGBmode funnily enough I had this exact debate with my local green about nuclear energy and he agreed with me and you on the subject. The green party candidates don't have to tow the entire party line and are happy for their own representatives (as stated in this video that you clearly haven't watched) that they allow that. So it's perfectly possible with enough support that they would change their stance on it.
I also suggest not believing all the NIMBY crap you read without researching yourself. I get it's easy to have an opinion based on headlines and sound bites but if you strongly want to protest and speak out about something you really should make sure that you're well informed with the facts first..
Thank you Carla for mentioning filling empty homes. We have around a million empty homes as noted by the group Action on empty homes. Filling these houses would not only be quicker than building new but would help to improve communities where empty homes are unsightly when they’ve fallen into disrepair, and turn tourist destinations into ghost towns in the winter.

I read something someone wrote on Reddit the other day that I really liked. I probably won't remember it word for word, but it'll be pretty close: Political parties aren't taxies, expected to take you from exactly where you already are to precisely where you need to be; they're all of them buses. You might need to put in just a little effort to approach them, and they might not take you fully 100% of the distnace that you want to go, but there's still one that will suit you way more than all the rest, and it's still way better to take that one than to sit at home and go nowhere.
For me, the Greens have at times been pretty much a taxi. These days, they're still, at least, by far the best bus for me to hop onto. And as a campaigner for them of around 5 years now, I'm seeing more and more of the public agreeing.

We tried the student politics of the green party under Corbyn and we didn't win any elections. I voted for Jeremy Corbyn as leader both times because I too believed it could work, but it didn't. The opposition to the far-left that came with him was too much for the country and, honestly, with the Ukraine war, thank god Corbyn wasn't Prime Minister at the time, or we'd have another Chamberlain on our hands, appeasing an aggressive dictator.

Where I live, we can't even get a Green candidate elected to the local council or to the Wales Senedd in the regional vote. The Welsh elections used to use the additional member system of voting. Because of the D'Hondt system Labour was a wasted vote in the regional vote in South Wales East, South Wales Central, and South Wales West as they won 6 to 8 seats in the region on the constituency vote. So when they win all 8 constiuency seats in the region on the first vote, the votes for them in the second vote are divided by 9.
In the 2019 General Election, Carla Denyer won 25% of the vote in her constituency. In the local elections last month, all 14 council seats within the new Bristol Central area went to the Green Party.
The only thing that could stop Carla being elected is the habitual two-party vote prompted by the FTP system. I'd be intrigued to see more detail on how the Greens are polling in the other seats around Bristol Central, if the majority of the public was in the know, perhaps we'd see more than one Green MP elected in Bristol.
If it's anything like around Brighton, not a chance. I live right on the border of Kemptown, 3 roads over and is be in Brighton pavilion. And yet i haven't received a single green leaflet and all of my texts as a green party member are to support Sian berry. Nothing about my green candidate or the one in hove. So support Gaza all you want in your private life, I do. But right now there are many many issues more urgent to the UK. Including Ukraine. No matter what Israel does in Gaza, it is not going to affect the UK. But the genocide in Ukraine has a direct effect on the rules based order and world peace.
And the UK can make noises about Gaza all it likes, it has no power in the area and has lost what moral authority it had before Johnson, Truss and Sunak made the country a laughing stock or in the best case, an object of pity.

NIMBY tendencies exist in most parties, especially on a local level. I think first past the post has made it especially bad for the UK Greens since they have never held any national power because of it. Meaning that a focus on local politics as a party means the NIMBY stuff has more sway.
Like the Greens opposing HS2 when the largest source of emissions in the UK is transportation is absolutely insane and I don’t think I know any European green party that would be opposed to something similar.
To be fair the same money could have been used on local bus connections throughout the country and had much more benefit and come in on budget and time

@@matsui90 The whole “we should spend the money on another good thing” supposes that we need to keep the same level of investment in infrastructure as the Tory government. And while Labour doesn’t really intend to spend more, the Greens would surely want to increase the level of investment in green transportation. So that you wouldn’t need to cut the countries biggest investment in public transportation to do a different investment. Also if you really need to cut something why not cut spending on car infrastructure and highways instead?
Also HS2 will have a huge benefit for local and regional transit, moving high speed trains off the West Coast Main Line frees up lots of capacity for local trains and freight on the line enabling much better local train services for the area around Manchester, and the West Midlands. This is the main reason that HS2 is being built, not to create quick travel times.
The reason Greens have good answers for questions is because they speak truth and live in reality.

@@samuelmelton8353 There lies the issue. The Greens want to tax the middle and upper earners more given that the tax burden is the highest it's been in 70 years to pay for all the things they want. Rich businesses have already had corporation tax increase on them and also Capital Gains Tax which they use as a means of building wealth.
What is never understood by the folks of "tax the rich" is that the costs of high taxation on big corporations are offset onto the consumers which are ordinary working class. Greens wants to tax assets over £10m that means supermarkets such as Tesco's, Sainsbury's and M&S etc and your cheap clothing brands such as Primark are going to get taxed more.
So when you walk into these stores to buy items expect goods & services inflation to go up because they have to reach net margins that make sense for the business to keep operating in the same jurisdiction. If these businesses start to fail because consumers don't have enough money in their pockets to buy enough of their products at higher prices then the government has now lost even the paycheck they were getting before from these businesses and there's no growth.
Also, there will be other businesses with those level of assets who will have to close down and move their business outside of the UK. Wealth leaving the country and government's pockets means they have to raise taxes MORE to compensate for the loss. The government has loans they took from BoE and at current high interest rates because of overspending as they usually do need to pay that money back, and so the cycle of high taxation continues until you're left with a country where operating privately owned businesses in the UK has no advantage due to ridiculous tax-laws so in essence you have no free-market capitalism. Only government who are responsible for producing goods and services and we already know what bad of a job they've managed to do with our healthcare as is which is a whole different debate.
In Summary regarding the Green's manifesto, it sounds all nice on paper however their funding heavily requires the wealth of the rich. The UK has lost 16,500 millionaires between 2017-2023 and it is estimated we will lose almost 60% of that figure just this year alone (Source: Business Standard - Millionaires on the move: Where are the world's rich migrating to in 2024?) and with the lack of rich people and businesses around, our taxes go high.
About why I said Green's manifesto is full-blown Socialism?
Because in full-blown Socialism there's no such thing as free-market Capitalism and Green Parties policies are about destroying wealth from the rich which entails destroying the wealth of the poor and middle-class as I've explained previously. Greens manifesto summed up is we want to tax you harder than the uniparty, wipe out the upper and middle class and destroy the poor out of existance as the government fulfil the needs of society which would otherwise have been managed by much of free-market capitalism. This manifesto is by far the worst one I've read and does nothing to solve issues the working class currently face, if anything add more financial ruin into their lives as if it's not worse as is.

Recent Labour wins in by-elections show the Labour vote share hasn’t increased at all, in some cases it’s actually dropped.
Carla is absolutely right about labour.
They are very similar to conservative polities and as we’ve seen the way that when MP’s speak out against the leader (I.E. Gaza) they get banished. Yet labour has welcomed one of the most right wing conservatives into their party.
I was honestly going to vote Labour. Yet the closer we get to the election the more I see that they are really no better. The greens are progressive, left wing, and they have good policies that support the everyday person, and to keep big corporations out of our politics and decreasing control away from private ownership is definitely the right way in my books. Let’s go Green 💪

I am from Pakistan and I think the Green party should be in every country , especially the countries like Pakistan and India where Govts are not taking enough measures to aware the people for the importance of protecting the environment.

The description is wrong. Carla Denyer isn't "deputy" leader of the Greens.
While the Greens could be a bit better on housing I think it's unfair to slap them with the NIMBY label. They want more housing, wanting it to be with the right infrastructure and to prioritise brownfield is both a good idea generally and is closer to being YIMBY than NIMBY, it's 'yes in my backyard, with a couple of caveats', and a truly NIMBY party wouldn't be pledging direct public investment in social housing.
I mean Carla's in Bristol and there's plans to slap cheaply built student housing in the centre of the high street, and ruin the entire historical thing of Bristol, and when the green councillors opposed it they were called NIMBYs for it. Same with the solar farm which was just moved over to a better place, added mammal gates, and employed locals instead of as remote jobs for Germany. Yeah they oppose more stuff than labour, for example, but the reasons are very valid and more an issue of how shitty the property developments has gotten than then greens being NIMBYs.
@itsbenbitch14 that's a good point, what we build matters, something lots of self-professed YIMBYs do care about, as they do care about the principles of good urban planning and so on, most of the stuff I know about urban planning is from people who call themselves YIMBYs, and I usually agree with them, but when people want to build stuff, but not the first thing proposed, and instead use those principles of urban planning, they get called NIMBYs

133k privately made houses in 2023. So an estimate would be around 283k homes a year with the greens. And they are right. We need to focus on building affordable cheaper homes for people to live in and if you want a bigger home work for it, but allow people to live in smaller homes and have their needs met. It lets people get on the housing ladder and save money they would otherwise pay on extortionate rent prices.
Brava Carla Denyer! I hope that the Green Party can build up strong support against Labour and Conservatives. Especially the former who's likely to gain power in the HoC, but who have changed under the leadership of Keir Starmer from a progressive left leaning party to the mirror image of the Tories. I want to wish the Greens every success and more, even though I cannot take part in this democratic process of the GE being a European passport holder.
The people need to realise that FptP will not be introduced by the current two main parties, it is not in their interest to strengthen current smaller parties of different political persuasions. In order for FptP to be achieved these other parties need to be voted for in order to achieve coalitions. Only under those terms will Proportional Representation have a chance to become law.

They don't whip and they don't offer a change to planning law? House building is for people who dont vote, because they cant afford to live in a local council area.

Carla is great, I'll probably vote tactically to get the current incompetent shower out, but my heart is with the greens and I look forward to a future where parties like this dominate the political narrative.

i've voted green in every election so far and i definitely will be again, no other party is ever as ambitious as they are, and it's a lot of what this country desperately needs to ambitious about.
Their only ambition is to take us back to the Stone Age.
As a Labour voter of 27 years, I will be voting Green for the first time in the upcoming GE. I am looking at Labour in horror.

Oli can't seriously think that building houses without any national strategy is a good idea. They need to be organised around transport and the environment.
This becomes even more poignant when factoring in the future of automated logistics - building random patches of homes according to the whims of profiteering developers will result in long term inefficiencies. Houses need to be built in such a way that they do not induce excessive car use, and so that they don't cause needlessly complex utility systems (plumbing, sewerage etc) and road infrastructure, which bumps up council tax and business rates. Houses need to be built in places that promotes the use of local businesses, stations, existing bus routes, existing waste collection routes etc.
And as Carla said - there is little point in building homes that are bad quality or rip people off. They may as well live with their parents if they can't get decent accommodation or live somewhere they can start a family or a career.
