What a game! The poise of this Hawaii team is impressive considering how young their roster is. Their freshman class has the potential to go down as being one of the greatest recruiting classes ever (Roure, Titriyski, Wade, Kearney, Hazan).
@@mkimvolleyballeven if that happens they’re still loaded. You got Kainoa and Kearney that could step right in. Also Charlie usually brings in strong recruit classes.
This was literally the best volleyball match I swear that I’ve witnessed recently omg!!! What a dog fight! Props to Keoni man was he mad at us!? We love you keoni ! Damn our boys went in!’ Respect to BYU and BYUTV for allowing me to stream!!! ❤❤❤❤
BYU commentators are known for being annoyingly unprofessional BUT Steve Vail has to be the most biased commentator in the US. What’s up with BYU allowing the “fan” harassing the Hawaii players behind the service line. He’s done it before, he’s a repeated offender. Coming from BYU though, I must say I’m not surprised. And come on the smith field house cannot be a mecca for any sport. It’s extremely old, the seats are super uncomfortable, the ceiling has these huge pipes that hang low onto the court, and the area around the court itself is almost non existent.
Any time he said anything about Hawaii, I could taste the saltiness. It's hard to not be biased but even then, it takes someone on his level to be able to say quite literally anything and let the viewer immediately know he's about to cry when Hawaii is winning.
Kenzie says it clearly “Racist comments” (55:15) and then Steve vail has the nerve to make a joke about it (56:21) UNPROFESSIONAL. I really hope Kenzie does not get in trouble for doing her job.
Yeah and he actually was making racist comments to Louis too. The commentators tried to minimize the actual racist insults being thrown at players on the court. Typical BYU behavior
I think he was talking over her. Maybe they didn't hear it, but we heard her. But it was wrong to play it down as a derogatory remark about surfing. Dumb unprofessional dad joke.
BYU fans are the worst. Why is it always them? I understand their love for the team but have some class. Model after Hawaii’s fans. And I’m not even from UH. Just saying.
I sat next to a group of UH fans last night and we had some great conversations and sportsmanship. Don’t generalize all us fans because of one guy near the bench
Amazing match! A few takeaways 1. BYU came out strong. Took Hawaii half that first set to get in rythym. 2. BYUs block was what really kept them in the game. Their passing wasnt great. Neither was serve receive. 3. Hawaii serve receive was terrific. Not all passes were on the money, but to only get aced 2x when their servers were hitting darts is impressive.
These are the same commentators that were making jokes about “Rainbows” and “Unicorns” when they were getting spanked in 2019. BYU has no class in my opinion.
Nahhhh cause the way Titriyski was fired up on the last set, I can only imagine what kind of comments he was hearing from the fans behind all game to make him amped up cause he was seeing redddd LOL i love it
The officiating for this match was really good, the only questionable call was the Hawaii block in that was out, really good, fair match, im looking forward to tonights match!
Most definitely if you go back and watch their 2019 match up against BYU in Provo Utah this same fan was doing the same stuff. Honestly im glad we keep beating them in Utah because there fans are the worst. They used to hold up spinning rings to psych out people serving it was horrible
@@ruth289those spinning things were so annoying. In 2019, the barriers were being pushed into Hawaii’s servers by someone in the crowd. The servers needed more space to serve and had to move the barriers.
Great rivalry, great game! I still would say the same no matter who won. BYU/Hawaii always had that rivalry thing going on from decades ago. Always a rivalry no matter which sport they played in.
I thought they were quite entertaining😄..'cept for the fact the guy kept getting the players name wrong, it's Sakanoko.. and NOT nuko!.. c'mon brah!😂 GO BOWS-WARRIORS!
Keoni Thim discovered why he was relegated to just a serving sub in Hawaii. He is too short and makes serving errors at crucial times . Hawaii's lineup is taller than the last 3 seasons. The taller front line makes for more effective roof blocking and steeper angled kills. Hawaii is better at closing out the match, which is huge.
You gotta admit how his serve has drastically improved since his time in Hawaii. Consistently bombing it out of bounds and rarely getting it in to what it is now. Only took 4 years
He transferred because he did not like being lifted in 2 games last year. His attitude caused him to get a "red" card and his actions are detrimental to the team.
He transferred because he did not like being lifted in 2 games last year. His attitude caused him to get a "red" card and his actions are detrimental to the team.
Ive been there plenty of times. The y have these massive pipes that hang low right above the court. The area surrounding the court is tiny. No room to serve or run after balls.
There's actually a new ruling to that this year. If you overhead set the ball and it comes out a double but the ball stays on your side, then it's fine. If the ball comes out a double/spinning a lot when you overhead set it and send it over to the opponents side, then that's a double.
Wieter offers a bit more experience to this squad, his serve receive is better than Sakanoko and Kearney but offensively he's not as strong. In a situation where Wieter isnt receiving well (which he wasnt) then theres really no reason for him to be on the court over Sakanoko and Kearney because they are better hitters, I would say Wieter is slightly more consistent and wont make dangerous plays, but BYU were digging like crazy and if Tread is spending a lot of time off the net then they need to sub in a hitter who can smash all the balls down. Titriyski does this pretty well and Sakanoko whilst his consistency is questionable can and will smash a ball down. And he received pretty well, there were a couple of overpasses but he took a lot of Thims serves quite well. Pretty much if Hawaii is facing a team that can dig very well then they need there most offensive lineup. If Hawaii is playing a team that attack very well then they need their best defensive lineup. BYU were blocking like crazy (we only out blocked them by 1 block, 18/17) They were digging like crazy (they beat us 32/27) and the difference maker in tonights matchup will be whether or not they can serve stronger, we out aced them 10-2. If BYU dont give out 10 points to aces and it was equal at 2-2 this would be a totally different game, it would be a 5 point differential and so there keys for the match tonight are 100% dont get aced. For Hawaii they need to maintain that level of aggression when it comes to serves something Sakanoko is a lot better at than Wieter

Hawaii’s team is pretty scary. Such a young team and only Choi is a senior. Imagine in a year or two.
True, but then again having a senior laden team does not mean much. It is what they do on the court in game time.
