    Eric the best advice is to start smoking them. I use to do the same thing collecting alot of cigars and filling up all my humidors so now I just smoke them! Time to get all the guys and girls together and have a few herfs. Life is short so enjoy those cigars!🔥💨

      I can't agree more. I have stopped buying (for the most part) and am just smoking. I got on a kick of getting "deal's I couldn't pass up", so now I have stopped looking and am focusing on what I already have. And now with Covid, it's not like it used to be with large cigar night gatherings. But you did hit the nail on the head!

      Great advice. Plus, some cigars age like bread. I picked up a Hamlet 25th Anniversary cigar at a Rocky Patel event that had some age on it and it was the most vile, acrid cigar I've ever had 😂 Probably should have been smoked as soon as they got it in!

      I think its just one of those "what am I in the mood for today" things. It is amazing how fast your collection can grow. And to be honest, I never really thought too much about having too many sticks in the humi...but I believe that is a bulk of my problems.

      I have been on both sides of that exact conversation. Some say never mix and some say it really doesn't matter. My view is that I am already putting all of my cigars in a cedar lined box...that should make the sticks all have a cedar flavor. But it doesn't seem to, at least not to a level of causing a problem. So I go with the method of same humidor, separate drawers. So far I have not noticed any cross flavoring in the last 20 years. I do want to get another matching humi to do that...one for infused and one for non...but not because I have really noticed a cross contamination issue. I will do some research and talk to a few commercial humidor admins I know to get their take on it. Appreciate the feedback for sure.

    Another idea. All the cigars are in the same location in the trays (front butted). Try this, one tray cigars pushed to front of try, next tray at the rear? Or, all cigars centered on tray. May mix up airflow and change the pressure of unit. But smaller stash in the unit is a good start. also the wraps do lessen airflow so a reposition may help

    • @SoCalCigars
      @SoCalCigars  4 роки тому

      That's a good idea...I think centered makes sense as it opens up the back and the front.

    • @SoCalCigars
      @SoCalCigars  4 роки тому

      @@charutostop8405 f it is dripping at the back under the fan...that is normal. You should only wipe the cedar with a damp cloth with distilled water. It should look dry again in a few hours. If you did over moisten the cedar, you can leave the humi door open until the wood drys out a little.

    Too many cigars is the first thing I thought of. Cooling should still be an issue. Can't fight atmospheric properties. I have about 700 cigars in a stand up freezer that I leave off and have to humidify only in the winter a few times. I am in NY and the humidor temp will get in the low 80's in the summer but, so far no problems with anything. Holding at 70RH almost all the time. It's been about 5 years. I would be more afraid of RH than higher Temps unless you going above 82°. Just trying to help. Great channel. Good luck.

      Really appreciate the info. It is great to hear what is or ins't working for someone else. I was getting many moths of 85 temps, so I figured I better solve that before I lost my collection. But now I feel like I traded on issue for another. But I am still plugging away at a solution!

    I'm doing the exact same thing. I was already running a couple of tupperdors but my New Air was still filling up cause I didn't differentiate between cheap sticks and ones I didn't like much and the harder to find, expensive, and ones I love. So I'm recalibrating all my hygrometers, reseasoming the ceder and pulling out the cheap ones and duds to throw in one of the tupperdors that has some space.

    • @SoCalCigars
      @SoCalCigars  3 роки тому

      I finally had to adopt a strategy...I stopped buying and started smoking! I also started giving away the sticks I rally don't love to friends. That gave me enough room to start buying a few things here and there of the sticks I really like.

  • @leonardpiggie9243

    Great start and good job....one more thing to consider is to take your excel and lay it on its side facing the glass door so that your humidity is hitting the glass and going straight up to the top of your humidor. Reason for this is because you have the fan blocked which cuts down circulation. I know it sounds crazy but I saw another guy on UA-cam use this method so I tried it and my humidor (same as your) stays at 70%.

    • @SoCalCigars
      @SoCalCigars  4 роки тому +1

      I will see what I can do. The only issue is that on this 3.0 model, one side is the power cord and the other is the air intake. So perhaps I can put it right in front of the glass sitting parallel. Maybe then it will still direct the air flow up the glass.

    I would also suggest adding vent holes to the back of your drawers. I have a 250 count newair and bought drawers with vent holes in the back to help the air flow through each drawer. The Oasis plus should also help as it pushes more humidity through the system.

    • @SoCalCigars
      @SoCalCigars  4 роки тому

      Thanks for the info! I know there is a guy that makes custom cedar drawers to your own specs. I think he does add more ventilation. I can easily drill out some holes in the back if I can't resolve this issue.

      I simply made a rule for myself...I need to smoke more than I buy. My stash got so big I filled my fridge humi and had to set up a Tupperware humi. I must have had over 700 cigars at one time. I also started giving my friends gift packs of cigars...usually a zip lock bag with 5-6 cigars. Mostly of cigars I 'grew' out of liking as much and where just taking up room. I am now way more selective of what I buy. I am now down to under 400 cigars in my stash. And still smoking more than I buy.

    Just purchased a Cleavelander humi (250 capacity)... placed 2 large BOVEDA packs (72 & 69) and two smaller 72's, set temperature at 66 (highest it will go) and waited for one week. I placed loose cigars and some in boxes, approximately 100 or so, took out the little packs and only left the two large ones. My temp stays at 66F and the humidity solid at 67/68 which is just where i want it....
    I had the same set up in my two wooden humis and the humidity solid at 68 with the Bovida packs... of course the temp moved around since it followed ambient.
    Swear by Boveda, maybe you should try them....

    I think the way you left so many slats open for circulation will most certainly help. I think your problem will be solved there. The only other problem I see is the coolidor. I doubt very seriously if it is air tight. Your not gonna beable to hold rh level in there. In the past what I have done is use tuperdors and Boveda packs. I would put them in the coolest place in the house, ie, a closet or basement. Or put the tuperdors into a cooler. Your air tight problem solved. Or use a heavy zip lock bags in a coolidor. Put a Boveda pack in each bag. I've had great luck doing these things. Either way, I wish you luck, I'm sure your wineador problem is solved.

    • @SoCalCigars
      @SoCalCigars  4 роки тому +1

      Ya Mike...I am worried as well about that cooler working as it is not exactly air tight with all the zippers. I will see how it does for a few days and will then attack that. I may have to get a 10 pack of Boveda's and Ziploc them up! Thanks for the input. Much appreciated.

    • @SoCalCigars
      @SoCalCigars  Рік тому

      I have heard and been told that many times. From my over 30 years of experience...I have not experienced a transfer of flavor from infused to non-infused in any of my humidors. I have also observed that every walk-in humidor in a cigar retail shop has both infused and non in the same space. They do not maintain two separate walk-in humidors, leading me to believe they are not too concerned either. If the pro's aren't even concerned, I am not either. I would say though, if it does concern anyone and they can keep them separate...no harm in that.
