A critical note if you're doing this in Blender 2.8: it will mess you up if you don't do it. When you create the very first circle the tutorial has you create, rotate it 15 degrees immediately after creating. In this old version 2.6 of Blender, the circle is created with the top circle segment parallel to the x axis. In 2.8 this doesn't happen; you have to rotate the circle 15 degrees to make that top circle segment parallel to the X axis. When you start creating the stock, it will mess up everything if you haven't done this.
How do you change from blender 2.8 to 2.6 though?
@@pachi7099 Download 2.6 from blender.org if it's available. You will have to search for it; there is a "downloads" link on top of the home page. I'm not sure where to go from there but you should have no problem figuring it out.
My appreciations amigo.
@@chrismalcheski9232 You could do it post placing the cricles though, right? That's what I've done.

In 15:38 blender 2.8 make sure you have snapping to vertex on and also in the effect part make sure the scale is also highlighted or it will not work.
thanks
I used this tutorial to make a C7A2, it worked like a charm considering how similar it is to an M4.
Thanks for making the tutorial!

If you put a hole in the lower receiver as shown in the image then you will have a non-functioning weapon. The rifle in that image is an inert display model of the Colt M4. The Safety/Selector switch was removed, that's why there is a hole. You need to replace the hole with the selector switch otherwise your gun will not work in your game and players will die because you gave them a weapon with no selector switch.
@Tahka DM
BLASPHEMY!
@@theamericanway4698 well technically if you programmed a selectors functionality in the game it doesn't matter if its actually on the gun model the animation would just look stupid because you'd be flicking at nothing.

great job
I think what would help getting the correct proportions for something like this would be to search for the actual measurements of the gun parts online, information like this is super easy to find with a little effort. Took literally 10 seconds to find real measurements of the gun barrel for example (just used image search with m4 outer barrel diameter). You can set blender units to match the units you find, be it metric or imperial. This way you can easily create objects that have real 1:1 proportions.
thanks
15 parts? Holy moly.
you probably would be better making your own gun without watching a tutorial

Nice
for those who are following along, you have to rotate your first circle 15 degrees on the X-axis. otherwise you will face some issues at 10:50 since your model will be slightly thinner. also you can add your image as a reference photo. simply go to front view(by pressing 1 on numpad) and SHIFT + A > image > reference
The word you were looking for for the front piece of the gun is the Handgaurd so the gasses done destroy your hand along with the barrels tempature
That piece (0:49) is a hand-guard. The hand-guard is the material around the barrel. The barrel gets very hot from the gas the comes from the combustion of the round, making a hand-guard pretty useful. m4 barrels are usually threaded at the end allowing for a muzzle device (compensator, muzzle break, flash hiders, suppressors, etc.). The barrel comes out of the upper receiver (there is an upper and a lower receiver, the upper receiver is usually about height of the hand guard while the lower makes up the lower half). The upper receiver houses the charging handle and bolt carrier group. The bolt carrier group (bcg) moves back and forth by bullet forces or via operation of the charging handle (the T prong thing coming out the back of the top of the rifle that you can pull back), the bcg can be observed through the ejection port (where shell casings come out of) , which has a little Flippy bit called the dust cover. The bcg pushes new rounds into the barrel, contain the explosion of a discharging round, and allows new rounds to be cycled in. When a round is discharged the bcg flies back, the casing flies out, and the bcg flies into a weight and is moved through a spring (the weight and spring are called the buffer system) which take the recoil and send the bcg back forward. The buffer actually runs through where the stock is. Now the lower contains the mag port, trigger, handle, mag release and safety selector. These components are self explanatory. That was a basic break down of the m4 platform.
4:00 If in 2.8, as soon as you perform this operation:
Shift A -> Circle
Right away press F9 in order to edit the vertices.
I have been looking for this. Thanks!

i have a problem, i made the magazin and the trigger separetly and now i can't attach both togheter, it calcule it as a separate group. 1 group is the weapon, an other group is the magazin and an other group is the trigger..
how do you make the referance still there when u go into side view?

Lol nice I just began today I'm gonna do this tommorrow I think
No idea where is new object and when You work with previously created. Anyway thank you very much.
Shift + A
Damn I gotta learn all these shortcuts
Insane, for the new modelers, if you want to make it smooth, just select the object and press smooth on the left side in the center button
The new way to change background is shift+a and then select image and background and then look thru your drive.
How do you make it change to your view?
My problem is that duckin blender doesn’t select verticies that i want like i select behinde the reference picture but blender doesn’t even want it to select it after a half hour trying to select it is is working and after i modified the model verticie i seen i failed again something
hey, I'm pretty new the this but how do you make the shapes transparent so its just the lines?
Is there a reason you didn't initially model the upper and lower receiver separately?
cant find the integer + integer. If someone has any idea on why this happening please reply. Thank you.
Will this guide also work for 2.8? I know they changed a lot of stuff up.
yeah it will work
Why do you go to the top, left, right? The m4 can be seen the same from all sides so what sense does it make. Please tell us
Nor a professional, neither a beginner but i have this one question out of curiosity , Are kitbashed(owned) guns prefered by professional s ? If not, then please enlighten me to which point i can use this process in the game industry
3:56 - I don't understand... Blender ver 2.8 does not support option for changing vertices like was in presented version (f6). What should I do?...

Also because blender is a community software, i forget the name for it but the software is free so if the company needs software repair and stuff it wont be done but paid softwares like max is paid so more and easier service with the creators, i have little idea of it too, but i hope this kinda made sense
It all depends on the company. I was working in Blender, 3ds Max, Maya and came back to Blender because half of the team at my studio was using it. Most of studios buys Maya license because of great animation tools but there is no obstacle to use Blender if you want - it's free so the company is not forced to pay additionally. Only thing that matters is skill!
I literally followed this tutorial, creating same rifle, while holding airsoft replica of this gun on my knees- just for reference. Better than photos.
How do you add and remove verticies
Select your object and hit X
no hate but the thing in the beginning is a handguard. essentially the same gun just different way to set them up. you got options. the m4 is usually the quad rail version like you modelled.
how does he snap a vertex to the z axis of another
