Nah. It happens every month. Replacement cost of wheel weight over 40% of the whole maintenance cost. The choose such a poor technology simply because it’s a French technology, that’s it.
The Montreal metro also has a set of steel wheels under the train. All of the switching is done using those steel wheels. In an emergency, they can be used to get the metro back to the depot.

Happened to me in 1992. It was funny. The guy went, check the wagons, stopped to one, got out a screwdriver, seems to screw a few thing, get out of the track and boom, working.
That’s quite rare indeed! The azur are usually some of the most reliable rolling stock in the world, so breakdowns like this don’t happen often. Quite strange to have the powering up warning at 5:17 while the power is clearly already on
There is battery backup power, enough to get the train to the nearest station at low speed during an outage. There was no reason for them to use battery power anyway, they would need actual power to bring the train to the parking area for maintenance. The late announcement was clearly a serous oversight, and could have been fatal if there were workers on the track still making contact with the guiding bar (3rd rail).
Excellent video! The advantages of having a rubber wheel are that the trains can accelerate with more propulsion and are very useful for steep slopes, the disadvantages are that they wear out very quickly, they are expensive, they get punctured at all times, they can cause fires like in CDMX, etc. . That is why it is advisable to have steel wheels because they have many benefits! Greetings from Venezuela! VE CAN
I don't think the flat tire is the problem. The wheels are designed to "fall" onto the tracks (if they lose support from the rest of the bogie) using the steel rim used for the brakes. I was in Paris with the same cars and they sometimes "fall" onto the rails when certain construction works is being done on the roadway for the tires.
The problem is if the tire is flat, it can get out of the rim and cause much more problem, hence why there's a guy at the open door to keep an eye on the tire.
Why do they even stop for a punctured tire? They have metal wheels and rails as backup, I mean sure it's louder but AFAIK all other subway systems use rail
Hi, I used Google translate to understand what happened with the metro. First time I'm expecting a tire problem. I have already asked myself the question if it happens that the metro gets punctures. So I think I got my answer from your video.🤔
Well it was because of a fellow transit fan and friend named Liam who happened to find out exactly where the incident occurred. I went as fast as possible from Bonaventure to there.
The metro is getting worse and worse every year. It is really frustrating because I’m trying to only rely on the transit but I can’t. There’s at least one breakdown per week and it’s usually during rush hour. Their best year was 2016.

Then the platform display 5 minutes again. No show train is utterly unacceptable. As a matter of fact 5 minutes delay compare to Japan it’s already classified moderately serious delay.

I never seen my Metro with azur with because me and my mom, my sister and dad we went there like plenty of times and I never I saw it get a break it down. This is kind of a rare condition
You're obviously not from Montreal to say this is RARE. lol! Every time I take the Metro there's a stoppage or a slowdown, for multiple reasons. It no wonder people are mad. They are sick and tired of being late because of the Metro. We thought that it would get better with the implementation of the AZUR trains but unfortunately, things didn't really change that much. Plus now, the Metro is probably one of the least safe place in Montreal.
Oh I know there are so many disruptions lol when I said rare, I meant to be able to film at train breakdown at the actual station it occurred in. Usually I am at another station or somewhere else when it happens.
Same like a car: debris on the rollway, hot spot, wearing down, etc. It's a known risk, which is why there are conventional tracks between the rollways that interact with steel train wheels on the axle to catch the train when a tire blows. The rubber tire system imported from Paris was used because at the time the tires offered better acceleration and far better climbing performance on steep grades (when dealing with the elevation changes up and down the Falaise and up the shoulders of Mount Royal).
