If I had to do the whole explain a movie plot badly I would describe cloudy with a chance of meatballs "a man who accidentally solved world hunger while trying to bring something new to the BBQ but it all ends in a disaster"
The creators of this also made SpiderVerse. They were initially fired from Sony because their first script for this movie was bad, and almost fired a second time because the new script was also bad. They finally came up with something good, which became this movie
Writers are never “employed” by SONY or any studio. Your generation and the true lack of knowledge and understanding of how a film is ACTUALLY CREATED is HILARIOUS. They wrote the concept, and the first script. They then proposed them both to SONY. SONY made an offer and purchased the concept (which means no other studio could create this work) The amount they were paid for the concept was MINIMAL, I’m talking at most $10,000. When this transaction occurs though, it is a studio’s next commitment to YOUR IDEA. The next step that occurs is the idea gets posted for ALL WRITERS. This entire time they were writing- SONY WAS NOT PAYING THEM. You are only payed as a writer AFTER your writing is purchased. They have talked about how SONY trashed the original script, they actually trashed their next three as well. When they are looking at animation, they don’t care who the writer IS they care about the quality of the writing. You brought up The Spider-verse and Phil Lord created the original Into the Spider-verse story, but Rodney Rothman wrote the screenplay and was a co-director of the film. Here is why this is important. You would assume, this being a trilogy that the next story would have a team of writers that is pre-set, that assumption is incorrect. There were 3 writers that submitted original scripts for the 2nd film, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Rodney Rothman. They did some editing and re-composition work. Across The Spider-Verse was written by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and the screen play was created by David Callaham. Rodney, who OBVIOUSLY worked so hard on that 1st film, (I MEAN HE CO-WROTE AND DIRECTED IT) was not included in the series with one decision. Writing has always been a very, VERY difficult job. You don’t get paid until after the items are read, and sometimes after they are sold. It is a career for an artist who doesn’t mind a knife from a friend, directly in the chest.
@@joshuacoldwater well...Phil literally used the word "fired" in his Ted talk so, take it up with him. Also when i say "made Spiderverse, obviously other people contributed heavily but I was talking about the 2 relevant people in this case.
I remember my dad "acquired" this film digitally around when it first came out, and when the title card came up with that big musical sting, for some reason it went through every language the film was translated into, but still repeating that same musical sting over and over, and it was so funny I thought it was a joke the film intended to have. So years later, when I was watching videos like this, I was always like, "Why do they always skip the funny title bit?" I now know my father is a criminal. And a funny one, at that.

Fun fact: The FLDSMDFR is one of the interdimensional objects sent to Earth-1610 in "Into the Spider-Verse." When the collider is destroyed, you can see it going back to the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs universe.
seb, you ACTUAL mind reader. I deadass searched this up last night hoping you had already done it and I missed it. only to wake up this morning to see this in my feed. THANK U POOKIEEE
This movie is based off of a short kid's book. Like 15 pages or so. But there are some things that did carry from it. Like the school being covered in pancakes 20:26 . And the citizens fleeing on rafts made of giant sandwiches
Seb: Ew! A ponytail and glasses?! EUGH! *Me watching this video wearing a ponytail and glasses:* Edit: Yes, I watched the movie several times before (it was one of my childhood movies and I have a dvd of it) and I’m fully aware of Sam’s backstory
When this movie came out an i watched it for the first time i had to see it a second time cause i just couldn't wrap my mind around how incredible this film was💯🥶
Seb: Peanut allergy has got to be the worst to have. Me, who has celiac (it’s an autoimmune disorder and my body attacks itself when I eat wheat, gluten, rye, barley, or oats): Am I a joke to you?
yes there is a sequel!! i love that one more than this one. This one was still good when I watched. I kept telling my dad "I dont understand fencing metephors" since he is a contractor LOL

The reason Flint puffs up his cheeks to kiss was because the animators had no idea how to make it look right with his massive nose.
