Be sure to disable Test Mode after the tutorial. Some people might have the Core Isolation" feature enabled. Thank you so much! It worked perfectly. May i add ; I couldn't set Windows test mode ON when using command prompt because of Secure Boot. I had to boot on BIOS and disable Secure Boot there. And for those who have an HP computer the option to disable Secure Boot won't be accessible. You need to set a supervisor password (again in the BIOS) first and then you will be able to disable Secure Boot and use command prompt to set Windows test mode ON. Once all steps of the video are done you can go back in the BIOS and enable Secure Boot. P.S: Don't forget to erase your supervisor password in the BIOS after everything is done. I hope it will help!

Thanks for this tip as I got momentarily stuck on the command prompt bit because my laptop was HP. Just a note for other fellow HP laptop owners, I was able to disable Secure Boot just fine once I found it on the BIOS, didn't need to set up a password.

Thank you so much ! The old solution : installing driver, in the device manager clicking on "find on my computer" wasn't working anymore... But 99% of the solutions on the net are this one. Works! I had 02A9 as well and went into test mode as described. I did have the original Microsoft XBOX360 dongle, but it stopped working one day. Bought a replacement on amazon but it wasn't original Microsoft. A little extra work involved, but it worked. Thank you!

bcdedit failed for me, but I was able to start search "Change advanced startup options“ > Restart now under the Advanced startup > Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Options > Restart > press “7” on your keyboard to choose “Disable driver signing enforcement“ then install. [edit -- changed "settings" to "options" in step 1]

Use the hardware ID you have to modify the drivers.

Side note, if your device mentions '02A9' instead of '0291' make sure you replace it with '02A9', not '0291'. If you get an error while enabling the bcdedit in CMD, you have to restart the computer in BIOS and disable 'SECURE BOOT'. Restart the computer and repeat the process only then it will work.

WHAT THE HELL??? This installed a virus! And it hacked my network, sold my youngest kid on ebay, my kidney on the russian black market and made my honda reverse down my driveway running over the neighbours cat! I don't know if it is the police, the neighbour or the russian mob knocking on my door, but I don't plan on finding out.

The value is protected by Secure Boot policy and cannot be modified or deleted. Try this:
To set Windows test mode ON when using command prompt because of Secure Boot. I had to boot on BIOS and disable Secure Boot there. And for those who have an HP computer the option to disable Secure Boot won't be accessible. You need to set a supervisor password (again in the BIOS) first and then you will be able to disable Secure Boot and use command prompt to set Windows test mode ON. Once all steps of the video are done you can go back in the BIOS and enable Secure Boot. P.S: Don't forget to erase your supervisor password in the BIOS after everything is done. I hope it will help!

Perfect! Just one thing to say about the "Enable Windows Test Mode", my Notebook Nitro 5 Acer AN517-51 get a problem for enable, because in the BIOS "the protected by secure boot policy" is active. I needed desactive some option for "Command: bcdedit /set testsigning on" have efect! Tks a lot!

Thank you so much for making this video. Would not have been able to get this Xbox 360 wireless receiver working again if not for you! I did run into some trouble with turning on Windows Test Mode. I went into BIOS and eventually figured out how to disable Secure Boot. That part took me a while though. You can also disable signed drivers by usign Advanced Boot Options menu, by simply holding shift whilst clicking restart computer. Under troubleshoot>advanced>startup settings you can turn it off there, but remember to turn it back on after. I had to do this because I could not run windows test mode without turning off secure boot. Everything else worked in the video, thanks.

I had an issue with my controller constantly blinking 3 times every second. Only one LED was on, so the controller was connected, but the blinking was incredibly annoying. This fixed my issue, and I no longer have to tape the middle button on my controller over, and the batteries should last longer. Thanks, Tarantulo!

tutorial still works great. I wasn't about to buy the "official" xbox 360 wireless adapter, at the time I write this it costs on amazon about $60, while the knock-off brands are $20. so stupid we have to do this in order to make it work, but glad someone made a good tutorial.
what started this was that the "official" xbox wireless adapter was intermittently losing signal, my old and brand new controllers would just stop working at random times and I figured it's because the adapter was old. got a new one and immediately can't pair my brand new controller? argh. now that it works, back to some gaming, cheers!

@@TarantuloTV your guide works great for installing a cheap knock-off brand of the xbox 360 wireless adapter for pc.
with that said, I'm still having an issue with intermittently disconnects: the wireless connection randomly disconnects between the xbox 360 wireless controller and xbox 360 wireless adapter for PC.
as mentioned before, I have both the microsoft branded adapter and controller, as well as the chinese knock-off brand adapter and a knock-off branded controller. No matter which adapter and controller I install, they will instantly connect and work fine for awhile, then randomly they will just disconnect for a few seconds and then reconnect again. It could be 5 min or 30 min before it randomly disconnects again. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, over and over again and still same issue, change batteries, etc and still same issue.
Up until about 2 months ago, the microsoft branded controller and adapter were working fine, then Windows 10 on my PC finally decided it was time to update to windows 10 build 2004 and I believe this is when the intermittent disconnect started happening. 2 months later with intermittent disconnects(so frustrating) i got tired of it and decided to buy a new adapter thinking that my old one was dieing., but nope, the brand new one has the exact same behavior.
I also have an xbox one wireless controller and wireless adapter and those have never had any issues with connecting and staying connected both before and after the 2004 update. All other peripherals are working just fine as well. It's this xbox 360 wireless adapter and controller that are intermittently disconnecting.
If you have any ideas about how to fix this, I would greatly appreciate it.

UPDATE (10/25/2020): Works perfectly with the botherin Win 10 2009 (in case you jumped from 1909 to 2009). Windows recognized it as a wireless receiver with no problem. Tested with RE 3 Remake after installing driver. Thank you, you da man!
