I have been converting my old Tomb King to celebrate the rerelease (suddenly my 30+ year old minis feel like they have 2024 priced value again... funny how that can be motivating), and have definitely taken some inspiration from your work so far! I just finished my first unit of horsement and I'm definitely feeling the choice paralysis on what to work on next. With 40 kopeshes and 20 halberds I am really torn deciding who gets what from the limited actual tomb kings bits available to me... so for now I'm avoiding making the decision and just building more horsemen!
Nice little bit of conversion! Good idea for Lich Priest as well! I wanna hunt this Necrolith Bone Dragon on secondary market when boxes drop to use him for my Soulblight Grave Lords in AoS as Vampire Lord on Zombie Dragon. Do you think it will fit nicely on a 130mm round base or will it stick out too much from it's base?
Man, seeing cool models like this make me even sadder how the Old World Launch was handled. These awesome minis stand out so much next to the old and basic scultps. I could have lived with the old sculpts (even if they made me wonder what GW has been doing for like the past 5 Years with the Old World), but having them come back in metal is just a slap in the face. Makes this entire system a non-starter for me.
Do you have ideas how to make the horses not look so dull? I don’t yet have the preorder kit but he skeletal horses were the one thing I had friction with.
Not really. There's a couple of ideas of using the Black Knight ones from AoS and also sculpting/adding some wrappings to these ones to TRY to add a little detail... But the heads are just so dull I'm not sure even wrapping some of the horses will help.
@@ChrisFrosin Thanks for sharing! I think trying to manipulate the shapes by painting is my best bet. I need an army to play too so no time for too many hurdles :D
Back in the day when small units of horsemen were decent as road blocks or to get behind the enemy forces I got the mounted hex wraiths, cut away the flames on the legs and took the upper half of tomb guards to add to them, then painted hieryglyphs on the horse barding. Pretty expensive process, but happy with the result.. Though if cavalry is actually half-decent as a block unit now the ones I have might not be enough..
I'm in the same boat with king on dragon but have to find a way to make him able to priest on foot. Such a waste of a model to have him just sit unused.
This command tent lich idea feels like a great Casket of Souls add-on/stand-in, that way you don't have to worry about fitting it into units etc.
Awesome work, looking forward to seeing how these progress!
Thanks a tonne mate! I'm dead excited!!!!

Great model, it definitely grew on me. On 1st pictures it did look goofy, but the bones are actually amazingly modelled.
Yeah I agree. I wasn't sure until I had it in hand. I want another to repose and have rearing up on it's hind legs, I think!

Im obsessed with making the normal skeletons more Tomb Kingsesque. Do they just come with one kopesh per 20?
Also if you use the tomb king on the bone dragon, are you losing a model, in that you can't make a foot lich priest?
Yeah, the liche priest is pretty much 'sitting' so you could make a mounted liche priest if you like or you'd have to convert him to be standing.
@@ChrisFrosin thank you! Will have to come with up with a palanquin idea

Yeah, reeeeeeeally wish the Ushabti had been in resin. They'd have looked gooooooorgeous!!!!
Magnetise him, then give him an optional chariot. Dude should have options.
Yeah, maybe. I think I'll more likely just grab a second kit and tweak the pose or weapons! They really are nice character sculpts!
