Michael and Jo.....It has and continues to be a great pleasure to watch you over the years as you carry on with your quest. I thought you had stopped for a while but you are going again. I have always thought the name of your boat/home was most appropriate as you endeavor to Persevere in your great Quest. Well done.....Carry on.
Hi there, congratulations on getting up the Foss. Great to see parts of my home city that I've never seen before. The building you called the chocolate apartments is known as Leetham's Mill, and was a flower mill before it was converted to apartments. I see that the newly built apartments opposite have been named Leetham House. There never have been any bar walls between Red Tower and Baille Hill because the marshy ground at the confluence of the two rivers was considered sufficient defence not to require any walls.
Hi I'm so glad you finally made it up the foss! As an ex York boat dweller I hadn't realised you can get up there so we'll done! 🙃.... I believe the old chocolate warehouse was originally a store for leethams flour mill that sat in the area of hungate before rountrees moved into it 🙃
Congratulations on the silver propeller!! So much crappus in the water, glad you were able to navigate past it all. DUCK!! I'd hesitate going up in a kayak, but Michael does it in a 57 foot narrowboat... and really moving in reverse.and ducking in reverse too. I see this and get encouragement for our RV adventures, granted we are older than y'all, but still. Some interesting road views, a guy with a cello!! Like the commentary
Well done Michael & Jo on going up the River Foss and gaining a Silver propeller challenge! Thank you for your lovely vlogs in 2024 and I look forward to watching more in 2025😊. Wishing you both (& George) a happy, healthy 2025 🎉🎊
Really enjoyed that, I do like the commentary as well. I look forward to watching it all again on Narrow Escapes. Thank you Michael and Jo. Best wishes Christine x
Brilliant, love it, well done for having the nerve to push on up a creek. Looks like it was maybe a little in flood which might have added a few inches of depth. Initially it was slightly reminiscent of the Cambridge Backs. Thanks for doing it.👍. Regards. Paul.
Thank you. That was very interesting, especially as it was a new navigable waterway for us to see. There cannot be many (or any?) bits left now on the contiguous system that you have not done.
Great to be back on Perseverance once again! Have watched Season 1 of Narrow Escapes still awaiting Season 2 so will be a bit of a wait to see you on the bigger screen.
Hi Micheal & Jo, I enjoyed that video and voice over. Don’t worry narrowboat escapes doesn’t get shown down under. You wouldn’t believe it I was watching this on tv and commenting on iPad, but it jumped to my narrowboat venture as I was posting, so my message went to Alan’s channel not yours. Quick delete haha and retype it. Take care Happy New Year 🎉❤
Hey guys, great trip, even with the added stress of that big camera eye looking at you. Another Silver propellor in your name. How many is that? Good to see you are still finding challenges in your narrowboat life. What is the next big thing you will be undertaking? Happy New Year from Down-under in Adelaide. Hope it is a good year for all of us.
So watching this on headphones is kind of surreal, I have Jo talking n my left ear and Michael in my right ! Its like having an angel and a devil on either shoulder, I'll let Michael and Jo figure out which they are :)
Hearty congratulations on your much-deserved 🎆Silver Propeller🎉 I have not been able to travel on the UK canals since the 90s. Still, I was active to the extent of hiring a narrowboat for 3 or 4 weeks every spring and fall each year from the 1970s onward. Even then, I did not even dream of attaining such an accolade. I have been addicted to your UA-cam channel since Perseverance was in a fresh paint job😏 and the videography and editing skills you both are right up with the best professional UA-cam channels. I wonder if the producer and cameraman had taken the time to watch a few hours of your shows and if that is why they contacted you for their channel four programs. I must brush up my vpn skills to be sure about seeing the show when it airs. I also enjoyed the narration aspect of this as well as when you employed it for your saltwater adventure. Keep well and all the best for your future adventures.
I have not seen any of Narrow Escapes yet ,am not sure if is on free to air tv in Australia but maybe can be seen by using a VPN . Anyway how many people from the tv crew actually came on the boat with you ? When I look at the credits of any tv documentary there are hundreds but of course there are separate pre production and post production units .
@MinimalList ok thanks. I was just googling the criteria for silver Propeller locations . So on gathering all the Silver Propellers you get a plaque and a goodie bag. There are some locations accessible by tour boats.
Hello from Kansas! Would a sonar system help with finding the depth under the boat? There is a search/dive/recovery team in the USA called "Adventures with Purpose", (that's their YT channel name) that uses sonar to search for missing vehicles that may solve missing person cases, and they have some cool over the counter sonar gear that has some fantastic abilities like showing the depth of the water under the boat and the ability to show detail of a car to tell if maybe it's "the car they're looking for" to solve a case. Since you'd know the draft of your boat, you'd be able to tell if your safe or not. Just my $0.02 worth. Thanks!
@@richardjensen6753 Sonar is really only handy on rivers or places like the Norfolk Broads, as the UK canals are generally only a few feet deep. Narrowboats traditionally are 'low tech' for ease of maintenance. Many don't have fuel or water gauges.
Very interesting video, showing all the buildings from a different view, and amazed you got so far. We lived close to where you decided to turn back , so we know it well. In summer it’s normally totally green with weed and water lily type growth, completely covering it, so it could even be more difficult at that time.
Well done! Really enjoyed the commentary style of video. Happy New Year.
Thank you. Happy New Year to you too and thank you for the support.
Wow, great cruise. You give us all confidence to keep exploring...😊

Congratulations on your new Silver Propeller. 👌
Loved the commentary, gives the trip some real depth with the information you got out there!
I really enjoyed the commentary style of this video. I look forward to you doing more of that.
That was really interesting, and I loved your candid voice-over of the film. Nice and relaxed. Makes me want to visit York too! 😎
That was good! I hope that 2025 is a healthy and happy one for the three of you.
Brilliant video ., thank you for visiting the river Foss. Great to see my home town 💚 rare footage of the river.
Very interesting to see the FOsse

Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the video. Michael does like to go where no narrowboater has been for a while.
Thanks for this. Wishing you a happy 2025.

I really enjoy this style of video. I know it’s not your usual fate but it felt it was quite nice for a change.
Good morning 😊 another great watch thanks.
Thank you, Glad you enjoyed it.
Thoroughly enjoyed that little adventure! Thanks for bringing me along. 😃
Absolutely fantastic, I really enjoyed the voice over. ❤
Nice

Fascinating waterway, loving the building straddling the midpoint thank you.
Awesome video really very interesting to see! Especially George!! Blessings to you and your family especially George in the New Year!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Got another one. Nicely done!
Wow, well done both of you. Yet another silver propeller.
That wax really really interesting and enjoyable to watch. Well done on another silver propeller!
Wow that was fun! Happy new year to you both. 🎉 great boatmanship
Groovy episode.

I think the commentary works very well, especially when you you reversed the boat.
George was getting a close up! I hope they keep it in the edit.
Is there a canal that goes past Bournville?
Yes, the Worcs and Birmingham
Cadbury's chocolate warehouse on the G&S.
How can a reverse be straightforward? Sounds in opposition. 😂
Xx

It is on Channel 4 so yes, you may need a VPN. We just had one producer and one camera person with us.
@MinimalList ok thanks.
I was just googling the criteria for silver Propeller locations .

Did the production company contact you or did you contact them?
I really enjoyed that , the only shame of it was the ever present graffiti that gets everywhere these days .

That was great. It provides the chance to verbalise when there wouldn't have been the bandwidth in real time.
