im a white aussie girl and would love a video about indigenous/first nations art from this country. ive not really delved into it personally past a few exhibits and art pieces
It's wild that even in my Southeast Asian country, art history in colleges and universities is basically still just venerating these same artists, without a whiff of their colonial proclivities.
I think Picasso should be done first, too many leftists think he was a communist and he really wasn’t. He was politically problematic as well
Pablo Picasso was a member of the communist party until he died one 1973 what are you talking about.
He was literally a communist though. You can be a communist and be problematic, there are terrible people who are communists, but they are definitely communists. When someone says multiple times "I'm a communist" and then joins communist institutions and supports communist causes, they are a communist.
Picasso when he appropriated foreign masks: "I'm such a genius, lol."
Picasso when he was arrested over the theft of the Mona Lisa and was asked about Guillaume Apollinaire: "I've never seen this man in my entire life."
Jokes aside a video about some of these people sounds really good. I do respect these people (like.. "I made my version of Guernica this year" respect them) when it comes to their technical knowledge and wanting to create the things they wanted, but I feel that while most people know how unhinged Picasso was, especially with women, most of the other stuff is either not even known or brushed aside as just products of their time without any further consideration.
Should've watched entire video first..
I do enjoy your art videos. I found you because of the pragerU video and I haven't seen all your other videos, but I do really enjoy people doing the art process + talking about the process videos and I'll watch them whether or not you move those to a different channel in the future. I'm honestly even a bit more interested in those in general.
The passionate art school dropout in me is ECSTATIC!! I would absolutely love to see more of these art history videos from you; and I love the videos about your work, especially ones that feature your OCs. I don’t really see much benefit in separating these two topics by channel, tbh. Your channel is your craft, and it can be as multi-layered and diverse in contents as you feel like.
Paul Gauguin was an absolute monster.
I think that’s a bit unfair. Like onomatopoeia, I think you are looking at these artists through a 21st century lens. Imperialism, colonialism and industrialism were at their peak when these artists were alive. Artists and art patrons had become disenchanted from the neoclassical language which was typical in the 19th century.. Plus there was so much political upheaval. Art scholars were dying to get away from the restraints of the society they lived in, looking for things that were more authentic. So they looked back to the Byzantine era art, and out to non western art. The medieval era and the “non western” were essentially free from the constraints of the western civilization. Yes… the “non west” was overly romanticized….but what hasn’t been over romanticized in European art? I’m personally no fan of primitivism…mainly because it IS so fake. It’s just a hollow imitation of the real deal, but it leaves it’s mark of importance in art history imo.
I meant more the whole relationships with 13 year old girls. Shockingly he gave most of them syphilis, despite knowing he had the disease and still took no precautions. All this comes after he abandoned his wife and 5 children back in Denmark. I don't really think any of that is defensible by the standards of a bygone era. But I do agree with your point about post industrial europe looking for authenticity outside the developed world and the irony that they version they chose to celebrate was a fabricated replica that replaced the real thing in the cultural imagination. @@amandanorris8
@@amandanorris8dude he raped children, he was a monster now and then
@@amandanorris8i cant believe you're trying to make a child rapist who took advantage of 13 year old indigenous girls look better lol
really great and informative video, in the future could you show more examples of paintings on screen?
(edit) also I'm here mostly for the art history commentary, it is interesting and I didn't have a good art history class, so I'm learning a lot
Love the lil mic companion this video!
This video was great, if splitting the channel will put less pressure on you go for it, I'm here for whatever you make though and I think keeping the channels together will put more eyes on either content based on what people are coming for.
Love watching these videos with another tab open to look at the art
Im here for both. I am binging all of your vids. I will watch your content wherever you post it.
it would be great if you included more examples of the paintings youre talking about at the time. Love your channel though and look forward to more
I'd honestly love any videos by you! Your channel is so unique, and I'm happy to see what you do with it!! ❤
do commentary as you suggest, but keep the art here and the longer content, just upload it rarer/when able to, cus ppl are gonna miss those on another channel rn, but your commentary is including art, so ppl who come for commentary with art commentary will be more interested in the longer form art content as a bonus. imo.
Kind of tells you everything you need to know about Anarcho-Primitivism doesnt it?
I dont know why people ever thought that was a left wing idealogy.
i'm definitely here for the commentary but will quite happily watch the other art stuff as well.
as for which problematic art boi you should cover first, i'd prefer picasso
This was such a fun topic to watch you talk about!
Would love to hear you talk about Beksinski, he's been one of my biggest inspirations and his approach to art as a self-taught painter is fascinating to me.
I would be interested in hearing in The Ashcan School, and your opinion on their work. I have studied them quite a lot (especially sharing almost the same name as one of their members).
love the intro
thank you for this video!!!
I just subscribed! Because of the art history commentary.
I'll be checking out the art content but. But splitting the channel sounds good.
I think keep it on one channel. So people that dont know one side of your content get introduced to the other👍 And also more variety in content will maybe help the channel grow. but this i dont know.
love your vids!
What do you mean this video has less than 100 likes?? LIKE WHAT LITERALLY SO INTERESTING
I really enjoy your content 🖤
Just subscribed today, what a nice channel, gonna be looking forward for more videos like this one uwu
ore videos of lesser know/talked about art periods/ movements would be nice to see
I know abt your drawing vids but I'm mostly here for the commentary tbh. I think it would be a good idea to have 2 seperate channels then I could ring the bell and get a notification for your commentary. I'd be very early then I think
Nice video
Just for the record, it's pronounced "oh-shee-an-ee-a".
Birdie mic 🐦
this is so rad
I watch both artists at work and commentary channels (among others). My attention is captured less by the subject than by the passion of the presenter. Follow your muse.
primitivism is stupid because technology is objectively cool. soon i will acquire a robotic third arm that plays game boy advance and snes games, and also has 1200 foot pounds of grip strength. all hail the machine.
im finally early to something wow
I found you through your commentary so I think you should split the channel off. Love your content :)
I'm doing first I don't care how tacky it is
everything's problematic if you want it to be.
