Thanks for posting these great videos! You're a superb tier. I'm just a newbie myself, 67 years young, but I've really gotten into making flies for spin fishing the last couple of months. I love spin fishing because of the direct feel of the lure that you get with a spinning rod. I'm gradually making the jump to fly fishing but right now I'm just learning to make flies that can be cast with spinning gear. It's the best of both worlds. Fly fishermen shouldn't have all the fun with flies! I tied a crude white streamer late last fall and caught a nice little brownie on my first cast with it. That convinced me I was onto something. Now, I'm totally hooked, so to speak. I'm going to tie some jigs, too, but right now I'm using a bullet sinker for the head, running .026 wire through it, then I form a loop at the back to which I attach a fly that I've pre-tied. This allows the hook to move freely, articulating the lure, then I form a wire loop in front of the head for the line tie. They don't look too bad. Can't wait for open water to test them. Thanks, again, keep 'em coming!
Just found you channel and Absolutely love your tying... I’m not a fly fisherman but I love doing my own jigs for trout here in West Virginia and love you videos to learn from
Haven't seen the monofilament reinforcement trick - I have been stiffening the first half inch or so of the tail with some UV resin - I think I prefer the method I'm using now but I'm glad I got to see an alternative. Nice video!
Great sreies! This is how I got interesting fly tying. Still tying and fishiing my own jigs even today. Can' t wait to see the fishing videos. Thanks for sharing.
Hey, Gunnar. I don't think the crosscut zonker you used was cut incorrectly. As a right-handed tyer, you just need to ensure that the hair is hanging down when you hold the crosscut zonker horizontally with the hide to the back. You then simply tie in the right hand end.
Enjoyed the series. I have tied some flies for years now, but I am definitely not professional and also like the idea of using fly tying materials, natural materials in the spin fishing world as well. Those are 4 nice patterns to start off with. I have tied some articulated leeches before in various colors, so they are simple and effective. They will work for all those fish you mentioned and if you are into Steelhead fishing a pink or red jighead with a purple, white or black zonker would be dynamite.
Thanks Gunnar! If I had to chose one lure for all (freshwater) species in all types of water and conditions, I think that it would be difficult to find anything that would be better than a jig. Cheers!
Great video, I also tie my own jigs. Just loaded a video on finesse hair jis for bass, also the Hotdog jig for bass and crappie. Thanks for the tips, FLC
I've been tying this pattern for years minus the jig head awesome fly. I've caught carp largemouth bass catfish crappie yellow perch pike and trout im sure the smallies would tear it up too

Just watched a few of your videos Gunnar, really cool stuff. Took a lot away from them.
Man I enjoyed all of these but that leech is something else. Thanks man!

Awesome series Gunnar. Can't wait for the fishing part. Thanks!
Loved this series. Now looking forward to those fishing vids.
Nice series Gunnar! I tied up some Clouser minnows on jig hooks. Gonna try them out this summer. Thanks for all the great videos!

Stupid simple. This looks like something you could tie with a tungsten bead for fly fishing. Keep the good stuff coming buddy.
Thank you for this coming from a beginner fly fisher, tyer, and ultralight spin fisher.

0:16-- I believe they prefer to be called "leech African-Americans". ;)
