Best instructor I’ve found and laughed out loud on a quiet train commute thanks for making me look like a crazy person!!! And teaching me something. Flashing off and sanding wow that should be called out from the church steeples!!
This was one of the most informative and entertaining turning videos I've seen; I loved it and will rewatch it several times. Mr. Clewes's humor is wonderful and really keeps your attention.
I think this is a top class demonstration. This man gives a real good honest no nonsense demo with straight to the point tips & explanations. No bull & no toolaholic nonsense trying to sell gear that every turner must have. That’s what makes it so refreshing. Well done Jimmy. I started watching this video and couldn’t take my eyes off it such is the quality of the engagement. Really top class stuff. Thank you for sharing. This has been extremely useful & productive. I've learned loads.
Wow! Unreal! Stupendous! Info packed. The explanation of sealing before oiling is exactly what I needed!! I have struggled with that for a year! New turner. I love walnut oil but it left inconsistent dull patches plus used a bunch of oil. Thank you so very much Jimmy! My newest hero
Jimmy you are the most humorous wood turner I have ever seen and a pleasure to listen and have so much knowledge to share with your audience. I have enjoyed your tutorials as well as I have learned so much. Thank you Albert
Once again a brilliant tutorial , and being a Brit I can understand your Geordie accent as well so I get double the pleasure and knowledge! You are certainly one of the best woodturners I've seen on UA-cam no bullshit, just good common sense and excellent concise demonstration. Well done to the camera man and editor as well.
Jimmy is a great teacher. I have watched this video three times and pick up more each time. I have saved a link in my reference material links. Thanks for sharing - very well done!
I've been watching video and reading about woodworking 7 days a week for 3 years and this gentleman is THE BEST instructor I have ever seen. Some people can teach and some just can't. Jimmy is a great, no BS craftsman that can really help us in this field.
I learn more from him than a printed book. Interesting, fascinating. constructive , instructive, and fantastic sense of humour. Loved very much the presenter/artist.chatoyance is identified here.
Great video, you are a fantastic teacher Jimmy. I really appreciate your comment about your being more patriotic to this country than the rest of the guys in the class, most Americans don't realize how great they have it. It's only until they travel abroad where they realize how easy they have it. Thanks Jimmy, you're the best???
Enjoyed this greatly. Thanks! A sense of humor is always a plus when teaching and a quick funny personal story or remark (we all love soft curves, sorry sweetie) goes a long way to make any lesson personal and memorable to each student. 👍👍👍🍻
Jimmy, Thank you for your most exhilarating and informative turning demonstration. I am a self taught luthier and have been building and repairing guitars for a good number of years. I have lost interest because I dontfeel the artistic appeal. If you look at guitars they all look alike with exception of wood and accessories. I want to start turning. I have watchedhours and hours of videos on turning. This demonstration and the information you imparted was precise and contained more useful information Than all the others combined. Excellent demonstration!
Jimmy, I love your explanation of right and wrong, what works for you is right and what doesn't work for you is wrong, regardless of what the experts say. What is important is the finished result. I had the same arguments when teaching programming, there always more than one way of achieving a result, the way you choose, may not be the most efficient way, but if it works, the it is right. Love your projects.
Dear Mike Peace, if you REALLY admire this camera operator's work, you must be very easy to please. I do hope that this "discerning" eye of yours works MUCH better when assessing woodwork in general and woodturning in particular.
Thanks Jimmy. I had some trouble when turning across, bought my lathe about a year ago and never really got it working. Today I tried your technique described almost at the end (1:02:00), and for the first time I hollowed out a small bowl without struggling.
that cordless is clicking because your lathe is trying to spin your drill the same direction it is spinning. so its being forced to spin faster than it can go on its own. try running the cordless in reverse
very impressive informative demo aside, I just can't.. I've got to know where the rest of this video is? it's like getting the massage without a happy ending not knowing how this bowl turns out! 😭
As always, I very much enjoyed listing both the dialog and training. But, I was curious as to what kind of 'insert'was used in the wooden tool handle, that facilitates quick-changes of cutting tools? Was the handle purchased with the adapter included, or were you able to purchase a kit, and turn you own handle? Thanks, Terry
About 30 minutes in and the video is great, But I'm surprised nobody said anything about moving his safety glasses from the top of his head to his eyes.
Great video, learned a great deal. Thank You!!! P.S. as a R.N. You need to protect your lungs better, the watchers will understand. You are too good to waste!!!
It's a shame the camera concentrated on the cut and tool instead of keeping an eye on the profile being created on the opposite side of the bowl, which is where you as the turner also need to be looking -- as Jimmy did say, somewhere! Nonetheless, really valuable information, excellent tutorial.
I think it’s a demo only thing. Most prof turners always wear dust production when turning ‘at home’ but can’t talk / explain with one. However, most have some sort of dust extraction provided by the club they’re demo’ing at though!

The mans a natural teacher,never loosing his audience's attention,a real professional,brilliant.
This video has completely reworked my thoughts on rim proportions, tool selection and colouring turnings. Thanks so much for sharing.
Without a doubt, Jimmy is the KING of woodturning. Jimmy a great presentation as always.

Watched a number of times and each time learned something new - loved the comment find your level and enjoy the experience
There was an amazing amount of excellent information in this demo. Wow, well done.
I forgot that I watched this a long time ago. I rewatched it today and still learned more information. It's great.
I am a new turner, wow, what a great lesson. I feel like I got a weeks worth of knowledge in an hour! Thank you.
Doug Box weeks worth is an understatement. you just got years in this demo.
Enjoyed this greatly.
Thanks!

Amazing Jimmy ! Your a hell of a teacher.
Stunning Lesson... Stunning turning... Stunning piece... proud to be British.
Got to meet Jimmy for the first time in Ohio at OVWG. What a super guy and a great teacher. Hope I get the pleasure to see him again soon.
Thanks for this excellent demo.

Had not idea Paul O'Grady knew so much about wood turning!... sorry Jimmy - but seriously full of information, very funny and worth the watch!
so enjoyable and insightfull to watch!
Thank you for sharing and greetings from Greece!
Excellent demo. I learned a lot, and got some great ideas from this. Cheers...
Marvelous, great video.
Thank you for sharing this!
I'm going to toss my tools and just watch Jimmy's videos.
Great Stuff
Thanks
Super vid.Thanks for posting
P
Jimmy's a great communicator and turner. Funny listening to his jordy accent amongst the American audience.
Bowl from a boarder
Bowl from a board
Thanks for sharing, Love Jimmy and his way of teaching. Also he's correct about the language, lol.
Thanks I love me some Jimmy!
Probably the best woodturning video ever.
Anthony Taylor jj
Brilliant demo...jimmy is so easy to learn from
Fifi Gazepis love me sum Fifi
Excellent video work on the part of the camera operator. Great video editing.
Dear Mike Peace, if you REALLY admire this camera operator's work, you must be very easy to please. I do hope that this "discerning" eye of yours works MUCH better when assessing woodwork in general and woodturning in particular.
Great video.
fantastic woodturner. Weldon. have seen u live at woodturners retreat.
Good demo and information, love your sense of humor. Camera was at a poor angle and cameraperson head was in view often. Still love it.
Thanks Jimmy. I had some trouble when turning across, bought my lathe about a year ago and never really got it working. Today I tried your technique described almost at the end (1:02:00), and for the first time I hollowed out a small bowl without struggling.
this was realy realy realy GOOD !
true master!
You should flip the close ups 180 so it's the same view as if you were looking over Jimmy's shoulder.
that cordless is clicking because your lathe is trying to spin your drill the same direction it is spinning. so its being forced to spin faster than it can go on its own. try running the cordless in reverse
Anyone know if these are the videos that Jimmy has available for members only on his website? They are similarly named. Thx
oo0Spyder0oo you want to see how it turned out to don't ya? lol oh the torture 😫
45:00 BEST PART!!!!!!!!
Really well said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
very impressive informative demo aside, I just can't.. I've got to know where the rest of this video is? it's like getting the massage without a happy ending not knowing how this bowl turns out! 😭
Lovely and funny
Are you ever planning to come to Grand Rapids, Michigan?
Schade das es keine DEUTSCHE Übersetzung gibt.
einfach TOP

You can get the handles with quick release from Jimmy’s website.
Is Mid Maryland Wood Turners still in operation ? Where are you based ?
We have the best hand basket!
You thin the laquer down 50/50 with what?
About 30 minutes in and the video is great, But I'm surprised nobody said anything about moving his safety glasses from the top of his head to his eyes.
This must happen all the time in his demos. He does it several times here.
Nice one Mr Clews
What Lathe is he turning on? I have been doing research to upgrade to a full size machine and this one looks like a good one.
Think it’s one of the bigger Jet lathes.
any idea what kind of wood that is? what woods are best for turning a bowl?
Rippled maple I think.
i fell for that barracuda, what a piece of crap, I still use it as a dedicated cole jaw chuck. I have two hurricane chucks now, 4"" and 5"
This is an outstanding class. Can anyone tell me what he means by OG?
It's ogee google it
Great video, learned a great deal. Thank You!!!
P.S. as a R.N. You need to protect your lungs better, the watchers will understand. You are too good to waste!!!
Could U use Polyurethane instead of lacquer ?
What is the word he is saying that sounds like OG or orgy?
Its ogee. Loads on google - very classical shape / curve.
I think you need to run the drill in reverse. I have to with mine!!!!!!!!
We engineers are glad to give you a giggle. See you in Greensboro. pottsy
Whats he mean by OG
Jimi, what’s the word that sounds like Owgee?
Ogee - like an S-curve or sine wave shape
It's a shame the camera concentrated on the cut and tool instead of keeping an eye on the profile being created on the opposite side of the bowl, which is where you as the turner also need to be looking -- as Jimmy did say, somewhere! Nonetheless, really valuable information, excellent tutorial.
if it wasn't way past the guy who went to sleeps bedtime, i think it may be useful to have his blood sugar level checked.
I wonder why Jimmy does not wear a respirator. He must be damaging his lungs
Funny you should mention that. I watched another tutorial he gave and everyone including Jimmy had a cough.
I think it’s a demo only thing. Most prof turners always wear dust production when turning ‘at home’ but can’t talk / explain with one. However, most have some sort of dust extraction provided by the club they’re demo’ing at though!
Great demo by a master of his craft. (Just wish he could pronounce aesTHetic correctly!)
need a left side camera angle
Stop running UA-cam
You talk to much..
Never got to see finished product! 👎🏻🥴
