To have a fellow collector verbalise his new acquisitions was truly entertaining and educational. Thank you and please do us the honour of sharing more of your collections.
I have a few corrections to the video. It is surprisingly difficult to unpack and speak in a foreign language, like on the first coin talking about federal coinage, not mentioning that this is the Akarnanian League/Confederacy specifically.
3:30 Naumann iirc, not Savoca or Naville
4:20 This is commonly identified as a griffin, not sphinx. The die can be a bit difficult to interpret. The reverse is called just a man-headed bull, not a different mythological creature I was thinking about.
18:10 The name of the plant is obviously silphium..
22:25 Not yet the civil war period, mispoke and was thinking the Imperatorial period, though arguably that didn't really kick off either before 49 BC.
27:53 Sold, not minted.
33:42 Monogram is the word I was thinking about.
57:45 Typically described as just 'globe' with interpretations varying.
58:20 Poinssot is the name.
An AMAZING collection and so happy you shared it. Dream ancients in there! Thanks so much. And thanks to CN for sharing it in the channel.
Would you consider doing time stamps for each coin incase people want to come back to a certain coin?
Thanks for the kind comments. There was a request to time stamp the coins; I'm not sure if that meant time stamping the video to show the times on the bar. I can't do that, but I got a couple of minutes so I can do rough time stamps in a comment.

@@RandomlyGeneratedUsername this is so helpful. Beautiful coins. Thanks!!!
And thank you for introducing me to CNG. The USA office is only about 45 minutes from me. I will be visiting them ahead of the next auction to view some of the lots.
@@haltersweb No problem, and thank you. Hope you find something that piques your interest when you visit.
Amazing coins. Great to see them and good information. I also like the insight into a collectors mind about good buys, some knee jerk buys and some remorse. I know the feeling and it seems like I am not alone. :) Its also good to hear about his auction experiences.
Man I'm just trying my best to get a good Roman and some Greek coins. This guy's collection so good he's just adding to his Levant and Tarsus collections! Man after this unboxing and based on the few comments you made about it, but your collection has to be amazing. I have so much joy when just one of these high quality coins I can had to my collection. I love my collection, but I feel so small now. Haha. Ty for doing the video
Wow .. that was an hour well spent. Amazing collection man. You are an inspiration .. cheers
Thank you!
1 hour ?! Were in for a treat
An hour of unboxing ancients????Pinch me I might be dreaming🥲
I think a display case with square slots that would hold the info card on the bottom would be nice. The coin could sit on top and be picked up while referencing the info.
What a swell hour :)
Coin collectors have a nice relaxing voice
All I have to say is wow.
Fantastic unboxing! Thank you for sharing them!
26:53 - 27:05 For all 3 power house figures to be featured on the same coin is so cool.
What an inspirational watch. Another level. Here I am putting a bronze collection together and bulking at a £135 spend 😊 on a coin. Maybe time to reassess !
The caeser at 48:18 is beautiful
One hour of pure joy. Thank you for sharing this unboxing. Hope we will see some of them in details in the future. The unusual design of the mecedonian (around 30') coin certainly needs to be explained.
Scyphate tetradrachm made after Romans took control of Macedonia from the forces of Philip V. Club of Hercules on reverse w/ monograms (not present here) that permit later issues of this coin to be dated reasonably precisely.
It pisses me off because Ive been looking for that kind of coinage for years and this man has hundreds of them?!
Looking for that coinage for years? You mean saving up for that coinage? Finding it is fairly easy, nothing he had was insanely rare, you can check numisbids for upcoming. CNG, Gorny, and Roma are my go to.
Thank you for introducing me to CNG. They are about 30 miles west from where I live.!! I just spoke with them on the phone and I’m going to visit them in a couple of weeks to look at some beautiful coins.
I’ve never handled any coins except what I’ve purchased. I’ve tried to find groups in the Philadelphia area (Pennsylvania, USA) that enjoy Ancient Greek and Roman coins. But to no avail.
I even tried the Philadelphia Museum of Art. They never called me back.
To finally find a place where I can handle authentic, beautifully-preserved coins is a godsend.
Thanks again!!
hello fellow philly ancient coin collector :)
Hi!@@redw0lf848
i like your coins
Man I really miss selling ancients, it was incredible owning them even for a little while.
The plant mentioned was Silphium.
Would put ten likes if it were possible - for the right attitude to those useless "precious" slabs alone ))) What the pleasure in having an old coin, if you can't handle it?
Fantastic coins and I suspect a good investment.
That was most likely a good investment as well.
The owner of these told me he's super happy with his purchase, so at least we know it made him very well emotionally.
Absolutely gorgeous. It's hard not to be a little (or a lot) envious of receiving a parcel like that LOL Thanks to your friend for showing us his treasures.
Need to admit I was a bit jealous too!
A fascinating hour😊!
Just wow
Amazing unboxing, wowww !Thanks for the video, I enjoyed it a lot!
Thank you Marga! Your collection is also growing quite nicely. Loved the lifetime Alexander drachm you picked up!
Amazing as usual! What a good experience has to be having such a collection with so many differents coins and each one with its own history.
"no slab survives intact in this household" ahahahaha bro's got a vendetta against slabs
Slabs get the hammer 🔨
@@ClassicalNumismatics Having ancient coins and not being able to feel the history in your hands is like not having the coins at all. Maybe at very best the same as having a photo of ancient coins. HA
Got the same feeling too. Ancients are meant to be held
Huge haul
Wow 1 Hour🎉
Hugely satisfying. I personally wouldn't crack them out of their slabs but he's the current owner and each to his own.
Just got back home from visiting CNG this afternoon, ahead of their Feature auction. I got to handle some magnificent coins that I would otherwise never get the chance to do so unless I win the lottery. There are a few I’m definitely going to bid on, though. Wish me luck!!
Good luck! Build a wonderful collection :)
They have a showroom? Is it in Lancaster?
Wait. What? That will be #coinsporn
Dude picks up a silphium coin late on pack one at 18:11. Just amazing...
It seems like a hoard has been recently dispersed in the market. These coins were incredibly rare some years ago, but fortunately some more are showing up. Such an interesting coins featuring this mysterious plant that most likely is extinct today.
@@ClassicalNumismatics They were actually, strangely, not really rare ever. About 1 to 3 thousand of these existed before 1991, when in 1991 they found some couple of thousand more. It is thought that Cyrene minted them in the tens of thousands to fund their mercenaries to fight against Thibron, the Spartan commander who ended up sacking Cyrene twice, and funnily enough, did so with Cretans. Most of the didrachms ended up on Crete, with three major hoards found and about 3000 of this didrachm type found.
There was tremendous demand for silphium because it was an aphrodesiac with a side gig as a contraceptive. Originally found in eastern part of modern Libya, it was collected from the wild until it was no more.
VERY VERY 😎 COOL
Heaven on earth
Oh my goodness me...an hour unboxing
Wow very nice ❤❤❤🙏
Que maravillas !!!!!!!!!
Wonderful video! Is the buyer keeping them in a personal collection? Planning to resell?
Most will remain in the collection, but some will be sold. I very recently made a large purchase and need additional funding so reselling a few of the coins will probably provide for that.
Coool
Great video! Very informative.
Vids like this make me want to buy more coins but when I here these prices.. Jeez😢
Many can be quite affordable
Greek rhodes napule ...brasil ...I love coins old

Silfium
Love your channel, can you recommend a site where I could get an Alexander the Great drachma ?
Vcoins is a good source
😂HYP📧💖
To much drool
📽️👍👍👍👍👍🤜
I know if I took all those coins out of those flips, I would have a tough time putting them back in the right place.🤔🤨
I would be lost too. And cracking open slabs….. I like slabs on my unusual coins. I finger the common ones.
Tytt
Can I have one please? Just one, thanks! 🤪
Hiya!! like- total useful . :))
I don't even wanna know how much he spent for those coins from CNG.
I do!
