    I found that the Tung Sol EL34B's are very good. I have also replaced the voltage tubes with JSC Voskhod 6N2P-EB / 6AX7 and it has made a very nice improvement. Bass tightened up and the treble has smoothed out. I am waiting for an NOS Mullard CV1863 (5Z4G) rectifier. I may report back with an update.

    Hello from Australia. I own a fully integrated PrimaLuna Valve or Toob amplifier as you guys say it. Its running 6 12AU7s in the pre-amp stage and 8 KT120 Valves in the power end of things. While I found the EL34s pleasing enough, it did need a bit more grunt. There are 2 switches on the right side hand side to select either a HP or LS (Headphone or Loud Speaker) and another switch to select EL OR KT valves and as the amp has adaptive auto bias, it was great not to get the multimeter out like I did 7 years ago. Having a selector switch for headphones was a great idea as I've never been fond of plugging in headphones and expecting that socket to choose between the speakers and cans. I would have gone with 8 KT150s but those valves are too tall to allow the cage to to fit properly and as bandwidth is what you have to worry about, the KT120s are fine. The 6 12AU7s are so quiet it was ridiculous to valve roll except for some Sylvania tubes which were, for a NOS tube didn't make any difference and at $600 dollars for them, I couldn't justify the expense. The switch on the left side was a dedicated power switch and even though there is a remote control, I'm quite happy to shut the amplifier off by hand. The remote is heavy and the whole amplifier is point to point quality. I love it. Google the company. It really is a great piece of kit. Cheers Andrew.

    There are a lot of modifications that can be done with this amp. First I changed all the tubes for Gold Lions, I run a tube DAC preamp and an EQ. This greatly improves the signal, run the amp at a lower volume and allows you to tune per recording. I've run Audio Nirvana 10" -98db full range, vintage Tannoy LZIII -94db and Paradigm 7se's -89db. They all have their own character, I like the Paradigm the most, I have to push it a little to get more detail but it's very non-fatiguing and they play all styles well. Finally, You can buy adapters to run 12ax7 preamp tubes as well as a solid state rectifier that plugs into the tube socket. If you have the Point to point wired version of the A10 then it's very easy to replace the caps for higher quality ones and do a few other mods.

      Thanks for the advice. I bought a pair of DIY WD25T speakers that had a dark sounding mids and strong highs. The A10 sounds okay with these - the mids livened up and the highs were toned down. Am sure the mods will sound even better.

    I use my A 10 currently with a pair of EV 8inch two way budget horn loaded stage monitors(I put USA 8"EV drivers in them to replace the taiwan woofers that they came with) Huge difference! They are now super revealing! Maybe too much so for most audiophiles.but the A 10 sounds incredible with the EV's. one combo that really surprised me was the magic that my Celestion DL6's produced with this amp! I have yet to test it on my Klipsch Belle's and Heresy's that I own.have fun!!!

    I bought this amp coz of all the rave reviews (Zero Fidelity, Guttenberg, Thomas etc). I wish I had saved my money. Nobody mentions that the mids are so far forward that it sounds tinny. It's great for acoustic, classical, jazz and vocal - instruments and voices sound real. I can't listen to rock as it lacks bass, perhaps would be ok with a sub. Sensitive speakers are often expensive as companies are catering to a select customer. Also, due to the laws of physics (Hoffman's law) you can't have a small efficient speaker with good bass extension - one of the 3 must be sacrificed. That's why most sensitive speakers are big. A good SET amp (or tube push-pull) costs proper money and these are $200 in China. I paid £350 in the UK which is double the actual price due to shipping/duty/VAT. If I had paid $200 it would have been a bargain. For £350 I could have bought a much better sounding class A/B amp and have a much, much wider and generally cheaper choice of speakers to buy.

Reisong lacks power, but it sounds so sweet!! I would love to try the Reisong with good Tannoy speakers like the Eatons, coaxial drivers shine with low-power tube amps and the Tannoy are very efficent not like the LS50. Lpsu for the phono and the turntable = no bright + bigger soundstage, more details and more nuances. + If you can solder replace the basic capacitors in it by Elna silmic 2 RFS. To reduce vibration dampening the box for smoother sound and less brightness you can put some dynamat inside the phono box case.
    I made all those upgrades and i have a smooth and detailed sound now. (project essential 3, phono box MM, Nagaoka mp110, audioquest golden gate cables)
    And the best thing if you upgrade later your phono amp you can keep the lpsu, same with the turntable. It really makes a big difference.

    Not a fan of the A10 nor the very cheap small klipsch bookshelves. I do own the A10 and also own a pair of Klipsch RP-160M which are basically the RP-600M's minus the vented tweeter. Even the RP-160M's are a bad match for the A10 wich probably makes only a couple of watts or so, not the 6 wats claimed. Want the best the A10 has to offer? Klipsch Heritage line, horn loaded tweeter, horn loaded mid-range driver and large paper coned woofers and near 100 db efficiency. Also own the A50 which sounds a bit better than the A10 across the board but still not that great. The Willsenton R300 I also own walks all over both the reisong amps and sounds really good with far more speakers even not so sensitive speakers.

    • @nadiraudio
      @nadiraudio  3 роки тому

      Thanks, they're actually just inexpensive metal shelves from Lowe's with particle board planks added. I agree they look kind of cool. but they're kind of a pain to reconfigure, and for heavier equipment you need to add some additional bracing to prevent the boards from sagging. I'll be looking into some alternatives and will hopefully make a video soon.

    Appreciate the review. Now I have the A10 & r51 and haven't set it up yet, so your review helps. Take 5 is a great well known recording as well. Now; where I politely split with you is concerning the r51's. They aren't going to rock your world in bass. But come on let's be honest its really the Reisong A10 thats lacking. For what it's worth the A10 is ok for a beginners tube amp. So I doubt that if you pair it with the Klipsch 600's that it would sound 2x as good as the 51's. Why? Because the A10 at 6wpc is too anemic. I have it and I have to turn the volume knob past half way just too almost fill the room with jazz music. And I'm using a room thats let's say 18x18. So even though I like my beginners tube amp. Most wanting to fill a room with great sound had better get an amp with more w.p.c.

    • @nadiraudio
      @nadiraudio  4 роки тому

      Thanks for watching! Yes, this 6watt amp does not have enough power to fill a room with powerful bass, but it does work surprisingly well with the LS50s in my near/mid-field listening room. I'm hoping the Klipsch 600s can match the LS50s for bass while providing more volume and dynamics, but I won't know until I try it out.
