      I'm in love with this tent! As you guys pointed out, the colours of the inner and outer tent are perfect and the space inside is wonderful. I also love the big pockets and the very large vestibules. 💕

    Fatal flaw in this video. When the poles are set up, grey should run under red at one end and over red on other end. Or vice versa. Setting poles as in this video where one pole travels under the other at both ends makes the other pole shorter. You will not be able to line outer fly seams with poles putting undue stress on outer fly resulting in shorter life span/damage and eneven pitch!! 😇

    Good video with some good advice. I have recently bought the 1 person version of this tent and most of what is mentioned here applies to that one too. I usually insert both poles on one side simultaneously and then again on the other side. I tried it once on a wild camp behind a beach with a clear sky, no breeze, and heavy dew. So, understandably, there was condensation both inside and out on the flysheet. Not a drop found it's way into the inner tent.
    I like the way there are three positions for opening the entrance on the flysheet. in the final, fully open position there is no toggle to hold the rolled fabric so it is necessary to carry a peg.

    Thanks for this video. I'm looking at buying a tent and I like the durability and price in comparison to the hubba hubba. You guys did a fantastic job of making your points very clear and also giving the watcher a really in depth experience of what it's like to set the tent up pull it down, what it's like to live in it and also what it's like to store and carry! Literally everything a buyer would like to know. Thank you for taking your time to make it. I think I will be buying one very soon. Tom x

    I now have this tent and have to say it has a design flaw.The roof of inner tent is very flat which mean water droplets from condensation form on the inner and seep through the mesh making me very wet by morning.I do have the vents open as well as the doors of the flysheet but I still get wet.Does anyone else have this problem?

    • @WalkingNatureWorld
      @WalkingNatureWorld  3 роки тому +2

      We got this type of condensation when the weather was cold and humid and when it was raining but it still wasn't too major and we could dry the droplets with the tissue. It wasn't going through and wetting our bags inside, that was the most important. But still condensation will depend a lot on the climate conditions in a particular place. So would be interested to hear what other people have to say on that matter.

    • @carlgreene538
      @carlgreene538 3 роки тому +2

      @@WalkingNatureWorld Last night I didn't have this problem because I slept with both porch doors open and the inner zips were open by about 6 inches.I was cold but at least I didn't get wet.

      i’ve had the elixir 3 for 7 years. sometimes it does that. seems more lately than before. last time was next to lake superior with three people in the tent and it did rain. not sure if the tent leaked a little or if it was condensation...
      pretty sure it was condensation though.

    • @carlgreene538
      @carlgreene538 3 роки тому +1

      @@racerx3669 Yes it is condensation but if the tent was redesigned so that the roof isn't as flat the condensation would run down the side instead.

    • @racerx3669
      @racerx3669 3 роки тому

      @@carlgreene538 well, it’s hardly a concern. it was 95 f all day but 55 f at night next to the great lake. it cooled our tent walls drastically, and again, we crammed three 8nto it, so we expected some.
      the taller you make the tent, more wind it catches...i’m okay with the design.

    Thanks for the reply - I have now bought one and used it in late March at minus 5 but with no wind. It was rather cold. I think that I will be sewing some fine nylon or polyester over some of the mesh vents. It's not an ideal setup for three season use in the UK - more of a summer tent really. However, the Hubba Hubba has even more mesh - it must be even colder. I hope MSR look in on these reviews from time to time - less mesh please guys. Make a tent for the cold and draughty British Isles 🙂

    • @WalkingNatureWorld
      @WalkingNatureWorld  2 роки тому

      Yes, there is quite a bit of mesh all around so it can't be recommended to use in freezing temperatures unfortunately. Let us know how it went with sewing, it may be very useful to learn. Hope the MSR team will come up with a new tent some time soon:)

    The Elixir on my scale, minus the footprint, is 4.8 lbs. The Hubba Hubba NX 2 is listed at about 3.5 lbs (and doesn't come with a footprint). A 2 person tent is usually divided up, so you are only saving about 1/2 lb per pack.
    The weight savings were not worth the money, and durability to me (I stuff my tent loose in my backpack without the stuff sack).

    • @WalkingNatureWorld
      @WalkingNatureWorld  3 роки тому +1

      We also like to stuff our tent loose in the pack and prefer the durability of it. It would be interesting still to compare it to the other MSR tents:)

      Thank you for your feedback! This particular tent we took with us for many trips during years and it held up nicely, nothing has been broken so far and no water seeping in through the seams. Perhaps we haven't been in too bad stromy winds in it but otherwise it is a great robust tent when properly used.

    OOMMMGGG!!! OMG!!! I AM ABSOLUTELY SPEACHLESS!!
    This has GOT TO BE one of the BEST if not THE BEST videos I've seen of this msr tent!! You guys are absolutely amazing!!
    I've seen a few reviews of this tent on UA-cam but this just knocked them all off!! Unbelievable! You were thorough, details, clear and amazing footage!!
    I too love this tent and am really considering it! As a solo female hiker!! I am worried about the tent but it's the most I'm able to afford on a tent!! Can't justify £300+ £400+!!! It's way too rediculous!!
    And I really liked all the features of this tent! And the most important, I wanted to know if it's able to have a line for cloths inside it. And you DID IT!! The only ones I've seen!
    Amazing!!

    Hi great review! I was curious if this tent would fit two wide (25”) air sleeping pads? Several 2p tents I’ve seen with advertised 50” floor space did not fit the wide pads. Was curious if you could provide some insight. Thank you 🙏

    • @WalkingNatureWorld

      Hello, thank you:) Our sleeping pads are 22'' inches or 56cm wide and they fit just fine, we can confirm that the floor is 50” or 127cm wide. The corners are a bit narrow so it can fit but can be quite tight. Hope it helps.

    Thank you for a very nice, informative and well made video. I would like to ask a question I just bought and Elixir 3 for me and my girlfriend to have a bit more space but I am now worried about the weight and size difference with the Elixir 2. What is your opinion?

    • @WalkingNatureWorld
      @WalkingNatureWorld  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, thank you for the feedback! It seems like between Elixir 2 and 3 there is 600g of a difference so it can be significant or not depending on your priorities. For hiking and carrying tent in the pack Elixir 3 may be a bit too much in our opinion as Elixir 2 already is on the heavier side and it is quite spacious too. But for the camping facilities is may be absolutely fine. Hope it helps🙂

    Great tent but please change the pegs for decent pegs like the MSR Groundhogs. It will survive a shower with these standard shepherds hooks however the pegs will be the tents weakest point. I would not recommend pitching the tent in high winds with these pegs. Aside these pegs will bend in hard ground. If you only plan to use the tent in nice weather conditions don’t worry it will do the trick.

      Hi, thanks for the feedback! The Elixir 2 is a great tent to start our with if you are not too considered about weight, that's why it is hard to compare it with Hubba. We do share some more basic sizes of it in our previous first comparison video here: ua-cam.com/video/esZ5mpz9c3s/v-deo.html And we don't have any bag recommendations unfortunately as we used what we had which are just simple basic sacks for the most part. Привет, Анастасия, для нас это одна из самых универсальных и комфортабельных палаток, также очень устойчивых к условиям внешней среды. За все время использования и стояний под дождем в течении нескольких дней подряд у нас не было проблем с протеканием, только образование некоторого конденсата на сеточном потолке внутри тента когда есть перепад температур или сильно повышена влажность но не значительного. Надеемся это вам поможет сделать правильный выбор.

It happened to us even when the construction was set up and we had to insert them again, but then it was standing fine and all in its place. I bought the MSR Elixir 2 tent in 2016. Since then, I have had it outside about 6 times, although I took care of the tent according to the manufacturer's instructions, after five years the tape on the seam completely disintegrated and the PU coating of the cannopy completely decomposed. So if you want to drop your overpriced MSR tent every five years and buy a new one, this is the way to go.

      As we mentioned in the video we wish it could be lighter, but it is totally acceptable for the quality and comfort it provides. As we haven't tried the Hubba Hubba yet, can't really say much of how it compares. But because we initially wanted a thicker flysheet of 60D polyester or nylon, we would still go for the Elixir 2. Hi, thanks for the great review. I also got this tent. Have not been able to test it that much yet but think disconnecting the poles is somewhat tricky. It is Said that you preferably should start disconnecting poles from the middle meaning less resistance on the shock cord. Noticed that you simply started from one end which seems much easier. How is your experience with this? Otherwise from that I only feel that the fit for connecting the rainfly to the crossbar is very tight on my tent.

Yes, we found that simply starting from one end works just fine.
