I never realized how young Diana was during all of this. Married at twenty and having to do this tour at twenty one with a nine month old?! To add to that, a cheating husband and an eating disorder. The poor woman went through so much, so young

Me too!!! because camilla whatever she will do people will never forgive her, she’s a home wrecker from the very start of the marriage. Diana knew at that time and naively thought he will change and tried so hard. After this series i think the people’s negative emotions towards camilla will be ignited again.

It’s funny- people had sort of come around on him a bit. And they’d generally accepted Camilla, and felt pity for Charles that he was denied marrying the woman he loved- something that led to great unhappiness.
But now everyone remembers why he wasn’t all that well liked in the 80s and 90s, and I find that kinda hilarious.

But u must never forget we are all humans - even Charles is! Just with the title! The fact is he never loved Diana! But he had to take her as her wife cause Diana was the perfect play role model. But of course he had to do one mission saving the monarchy bc duty comes first. It does not matter if u are happy with it or not bc duty and happiness does not come together! Charles wanted to be loved and happy as alll of the people in the world. So is it wrong wanting to be happy? He fall in love with Camilla they had a basement. He and Diana never had time to get to know each other! It was arranged and of course times messes all up bc u have to full fill a mission - the crown must win! Must always win! No matter what your heart wants or tells u! So all Charles wanted to be happy but never had the chance to choose his way bc the Queen gives order who u are allowed to and a perfect match for the duty and not for love! Love does not matter cause they believed love comes by time. U can't blame him for what he did! Diana was destined to be our princess she took her title and used it for the greater good- for the people's good! She was strong, powerful and a woman with a heart that decided to play her part and make the people pay attention to the world 's most important issues. Diana always wanted to help people so of course it was the most smartest way to be her and use that power to make the world a better one. Do u see now?? Diana was destined to help a bigger crowd and Charles was destined to follow the duty! U can't blame him. He did what any of us maybe would have done too!

I meet them both on the Australian tour, they were both charming. Charles was actually better face to face than Diana in that dynamic, having had years of practice. Charles brought it all on himself, if he is anyone's victim, he is rather a victim of his own stupidity, lack of character, selfishness, and greed. As others have commented on here, Charles could have married Camilla without any problems if he had waived his rights to the crown. He could have done it if he had courage and character. Like Edward VIII who married Simpson. So if Charles loved Camilla so much, why wasn't he ready to give up the crown for her? - could Charles defenders answer this? It's clear, he loves power and social position more than Camilla or anyone.

    • @Aphrael76
      @Aphrael76 3 роки тому +49

You are correct that Charles, if he had any sense of integrity or a backbone could have waived off his inheritance to the Crown, however like most insecure men his biggest barrier to having that sense of independent character is the fact he himself felt as unloved in his family, as Diana did in her own. Charles is an overgrown mamas boy still seeking the approval of a cold woman who long before he was born committed herself to a duty that doesn't allow for personal feelings and relationships to take priority. Had he gone against his mothers wishes and married Camilla, she would have just dismissed and exiled him from royal life as effectively as her mother did to Edward VIII and Wallace Simpson and that would have destroyed him, from his position he had no other choice but to marry Diana.

@@Aphrael76 yeah I totally agree. I imagine it was more than just power, this was a role he had been trying to live up to his whole life. It was a role that, if Prince Phillip’s speech to Edward on his birthday is accurate, was the only reason he was born. He’d seen the way everyone around him with strong emotions, especially romantic ones, that interfered with royal duty was treated as second rate, selfish, weak, etc. There is a scene in the show, the night before the wedding where Princess Margaret tells the Queen and Queen mother about Charles’s lingering feelings and pleads for the Queen to stop the wedding only for the Queen to go talk to Charles and say a loveless marriage might work itself out if they both dedicate themselves to their duty while Charles silently cries, it really makes you understand that this is the influence he had growing up. Queen Elizabeth was able to find a way to put duty over emotion so she was not equipped to handle or comfort other people not doing the same, even her own children. They were effectively taught that being brave and having character meant choosing duty over any personal pleasure in life. The position and power were just part of their birth and more a burden they have to carry than anything. I think seeing how disastrous that can be for the family is why they have gotten more relaxed in some of the rules and is definitely why Harry left.

I think the Queen can be a trash mother without killing off her son’s ex-wife/ grandsons’ mother in a poorly thought out plot like that.

Unfortunately it doesnt undo his toxic other qualities and behaviour.
I think its natural for both parents to do such things, the fact that it stands out so much shows how truly sad and rare it is for fathers and royals in particular to be cold and detached... which only made diana shine even brighter against them. She was a good kind fairly normal woman but compared to them she looked like a goddess an angel a pedastal which both helped and hindered her when we idolise someone were not allowing them to be themselves flaws and all although diana really couldnt have done much that would tar her she still had insane amounts of pressure in public and private to be a perfect princess a perfect person etc. It would be extremely hard even today, back then? Im amazed at how strong she was to cope as well as she did, given everything thats said and also left unsaid but is quite obvious reading between the lines (enough that the crown can show things the public wasnt privy to and is fictionalised to a point but still be so accurate and real shows that even if it didnt happen it sadly was a likely occurence) if she had continued to live i do often wonder if she wouldve been able to do so peacefully or at least live for her children long enough to see them grown or even have children themselves. Given her mental health and the situation it wouldnt be surprising if she like people such as robin williams life ended by their own hands. Im almost glad we didnt have that but her end is just as if not more tragic and it seems to have not made a difference at least in the paparazzi and invasive media scheme of things... i wonder if she had taken her own life if she wouldve become even more of a martyr or if that end wouldve skyrocketed mental health awareness and treatment even more so than it is now... when you see how much shes adored by the public even so many years later... its crushing to imagine how much love her sons couldve had from her, how much her family missed out on.
As an aussie i have mixed feelings about the monarchy i couldnt imagine being a republic nor do i believe it would benefit us to become one but youd be hard pressed to find someone who doesnt love diana or know about her and feel sad of her end. If she had been Queen the monarchy would be rock solid. But as it is i cant say i like or even feel neutrally towards those next in line. While william and kate are certainly more appealing than charles theyre not so lovable that they come close to diana or the queen. & harry certainly has taken any good faith of the modern royals and driven it to hell. God save the Queen i hope shes inmortal because i dont believe the moanrchy will ever be as strong. & ever since Princess Mary of Denmark (an aussie farm girl) became royal most of us care more about her family than we do the british royals... and frankly the danish royal family are so much better than the british ones in most aspects that its hard not to love them. In a way i feel mary got the cinderella true love typical princess happy ending that diana deserved. Its rather healing to see a healthy royal family especially going ahead in the future.

He grew up with absent parents who were less than loving in a way that Charles obviously needed and the way that Diana easily related to people and garnered popularity, didn't do any favours for Charles personal issues. So, let's not "assume" that Charles did not experience any type of love in his childhood. How many people have grown up feeling more loved by grandparents than their own parents? It happens. The bottom line: Charles and Diana's marriage was a disaster from the beginning. Then Meghan came along, an accomplished woman who did not need 8 years to come into her own, intellectually brilliant, articulate, and charismatic and she stole the show. William knew that Meghan was more popular than the Kengsington Palace IG account because her TIG had more followers before she shut it down. Her ability to do public speeches without a script and her no using palace speechwriters did not sit too well because they had no control over what she said. However, this self-made and confident millionaire was exactly what Harry wanted - Mutual True Love for the first time. Harry saw the financial independence with Meghan that he sought so he left. It should be noted the William pitched a Mental Health series to Netflix who turned him down but later gave Harry and Meghan a $250 million signing bonus to create whatever they wish. They bet on Meghan's creative ability, intelligence, and global popularity because everything she touches turns to gold. I found Diana’s story very fascinating yet I also believe many lessons can be learned from her experience. She was chosen because she was young and naive and a perfect sacrificial lamb. I don’t believe that they had a problem with him messing with Camilla, I think they knew he would continue to do that even after the marriage. The idea was to choose a young girl that was easily controlled so Charles could continue his affairs and Diana would just abide by them, therefore a win win for the firm and Charles. Basically everyone won with the exception of Diana who has no clue that she was being played like a game or chess. Every move made was meant to make sure that Charles and the royal family came out winners.
It’s always been made to seem that Camilla came between Charles and Dianas marriage. I don’t think there was ever a marriage between Charles and Diana. Camilla grew up understanding how the firm worked, she had no issue with Charles marrying Diana, because she understood most marriages were done for business purposes. The practice of marriage dates back to archaic times where breeding and money, dowry etc where the main reason for marriages.. our modern idea of marriage is not done for the same reasons Royals get married. Their rituals and practices are based on archaic reasons.
Although Diana was of good breeding she was a school teacher and not very educated on royal protocol. I wouldn’t be surprised if Camilla was the one who encouraged the union between Charles and Diana thinking a younger inexperienced girl would do as she’s told and pose less of a threat to her relationship with Charles. It always seemed as if Camilla was in the background. I don’t think that is the case, Charles, his mistress and his entire family needed a plan and Diana was seen as the perfect choice to solve all their problems.
There were many other woman Charles could have chosen, but They specifically found one who was rather clueless. They did not find Diana by accident. They needed someone for good Breeding.
If it looks to good to be true and probably is. Secondly, like most relationships that end up toxic, there were signs that Diana ignored. She got swept up in the love bombing and fantasy of it all. Many woman do this as well. You don’t need to be a princess in to end up in a toxic relationship. I’m sure there were many signs.

I mean, just two weeks before their marriage he got her a bracelet which she wears to this day (the one with F & G, Fred and Gladys their nicknames).
If he really would have tried to forget Camilla, he would've. Dozens of people get their hearts broken every single day. At least in here in India, so many couples are split by their families because they do not belomg to the same caste and even though unlike Charles for them it isn't the matter of National Scandal. And do they all do what Charles did? No, right? They respect their parents' decision and marry the guy/girl they choose.
Camilla was a groupie from the beginning. When she had to choose between Andrew and Charles for marriage, she chose to marry Andrew Parker Bowles. And even though she kept seeing Charles it was wrong. Once they were both married they should've cut ties with one another and work on their own separate marriages.
My point is, even though saying is so much easier than doing perhaps if they'd have given their own marriages a legitimate chance of working maybe they would've worked.

It was afterwards in the late 1980's
He suddenly realised that he wasn't happy in the marriage because Camilla and him got more and more time together and he started treating Diana her badly because he couldn't be with Camilla, that's when their marriage deteriorated.

He appeared to be understanding when he put his duty over love by choosing and getting married to Lady Di. He even blamed her on putting no attempt on their marriage while giving her no chance for even just a phone answer. What's the matter with that jerk?

I remember I was staying in my grandmas when the news came through that she died. It was really early in the morning and my mum and grandma wept for days. I was 12 but it was so vivid. There's no screenplay that could ever get across how much she was adored. She was just so young marrying at 19 so shy and childlike but somewhere something clicked in her and she blossomed and became such a fearless, compassionate, endearing woman with an insatiable love for people and children with a relentless desire to help and heal. I still think she was the most beautiful woman in the world in her way and in her eyes and the way she would look up, it told a story. It's lovely to see she is still so much adored.

It’s true that Australians absolutely adored Diana. I was 10 when she died, and I remember the mass outpouring of grief- even amongst those who were usually not particularly fond of the monarchy (like my mother, who was and is still a republican).
And Will and Kate also managed a very successful tour here as well- something that also served to push talks of ditching the monarchy to the side. And many Australians think it should wait until after the Queen dies. Which apparently, Liz is not fond of- if Australia is to become a republic, we should do it now, and not wait for her to go, apparently. I tend to agree with her (I’m even more of a republican than my mother- note the small R- obviously the term has very different connotations in Australia)

Also in some of her children's recent interviews you can kinda see how her kids feel like outsiders and strangers to their mom because they can't go to her for anything happening with them they have to make appointments and deal with private secretaries to get that. Something his father never had the balls to do! If he loved camila as much as he did, he could’ve given up the crown, marry her and spare Diana and himself a life full of sorrow but he was too greedy and needed someone to stroke his ego instead. Charles took advantage of Diana by taking her as his wife just to please his family, not because he loved her, but what he didn't expect is that Diana would turn up the game and make it her own. She is the one that everybody remembers, never have I read or heard of someone speaking bad about her. Im from the Dominican Republic and i´ve known countless women named after her.
Diana stood up at a time when women were meant just to do what was told to them.
She embraced her own self and decided she wouldn't be just another pawn on the Royal family, she wouldn't be taken for granted, taken as a mating soulless doll. Is so unfair and heartbreaking that she left this world just when things seemed like doing good for her, while Charles kept being the spoiled momma´s child, now married to the woman he always wanted to be with.
From watching this season of The Crown I´ve learnt that not even a loving, beautiful and dedicated woman can change a man´s heart.
May God have our princess Diana in the loving and resting place she deserves.
