As a Taiwanese girl getting into TCCC,I bought one (through a EMS friend in the States),love it for how good it cuts thus makes modding 500D cordura made gear very easy.
Than I accidentally found out it's probably manufactured by a company just an hour drive away from me.......(as the website states, these are indeed made in Taiwan

I've been using these since they were in pre-production (I make kydex holsters/sheaths and reached out to the company about doing some prototyping for them and got a few pair to work with). Cant say en li ugh about how well these things cut. Have yet to find a material they dont sail right through! FYI im still on the same pair 3 years later and still going strong...

The O2 key is handy. But the real perk of the Raptors over these is the ring cutter. It’s not the most frequent tool, but the Raptor shears work better then the cutters in our ambulance.
If the X Shear had a similar design, I’d switch no second thoughts.

I just got the Raptor bc I didn’t know about these, however I don’t do EMS any longer so it’s moot, I got them for medic bag survival bug out scenario. I just wanted to say that the Raptor also locks into it’s sheath/holder while fully open as well as folded in case you didn’t know. I know on scene it’s a pain to stop & fold them. 👊🏼

EVERYONE I work with use the Leatherman, I have the SOG, Leatherman and these. The XShears are pretty much the only ones I use. As long as you realize what they are and what they are not. I do carry a rescue knife that has the tools I would need. I got the orange so I have contrast when when putting them down and doing 10 different things at once. The handles are bigger than they need to be but I LOVE these shears and for the price you can have a primary and backup for the price of one Leatherman.

Never will replace my raptors, I have used them for over 20yrs in a level one trauma center. Put me in the Simplicity camp. I'm not a pro, but I spent several decades in law enforcement. All I need my shears to do is cut, and I (presently) can't justify the tradeoffs involved in folding shears. I just bought an Xshear to replace the throwaway my car kit (a bit more than an IFAK, in a headrest mounted pouch by Blue Ridge Overland Gear). If I like it, I'll pick up a couple of more to replace the throwaways in my IFAK and home kits.

Oh and yes it would have been great to have seen a cut test video on these as well as how well the did fit in the 511 Tac pants along with how well they would go in and out of that pocket just to show how easy or difficult they were to use.... just a thought.

They look like an interesting pair of shears. My only complaint would be that you can't really remove them from the holster 1 handed. It seems like the leathermans are a lot more versatile when it comes to that. They can be put in the holster normally or folded up and can be easily removed with a good tug. I have only worked with the leathermans so I can't really speak for these. In the end it comes down to what you (the user) prefers.

If you are going to compare cost, it's pretty much a wash. The Raptor is $69.95 at Amazon. The XShear are $39. Cool. But if you want the custom tactical holster, that's another $29. That adds up to $68. Hmm. The Raptor comes with its holster. Now, if the XShear is a better cutting tool, and you don't need all the other tools, then the XShear may win.

You can drop the leatherman raptor in a sonic cleaner with a disinfectant but I like the X shears because I could see part of the Raptor failing causing it to not open when folded. More small parts are more chances of failing. Also like you said debris could possibly jam the Raptor from working.

Are NAR 7 1/4 trauma shears any good? If I include shipping and import fees from amazon the Xshears become pretty expensive. Four times the cost of the NAR shears. I do not work in LE or EMS, they would just sit in my first aid kit (which is an EDC, car and range trauma kit all in one because I can spare the room in my bag more than I can spare the cash to build three dedicated kits) in case I randomly walk into or drive into some sort of accident.

In my opinion it's up to you. I work in EMS as well as in the hospital so I love my xshears because they're heavy duty and reliable when there's tough things to cut through. However, unless you're cutting through bloody material daily, I would say you're safe with the cheapy shears. Perhaps get one of the higher end cheapy shears like the NAR shears or the Madison Fluoride coated 7 1/2 inch shears.

Hi Sam, do you know if they sell these in the UK?

@PrepMedic maybe a stupid question, but you know that you can carry raptor in open position inside stock holder or any shears pocket, right?
They lock pretty well in open position inside the holder (not perfect, but fair).

They don’t fit in standard 5.11 shears pocket. You can force them in but it bangs around on your leg non stop and looks awful

I don’t like the tip of the shears hanging down through the bottom of the holster

I just came across this video as I was looking for a comparison between the new SOG Parashears that I just purchased (arrived today actually) and I was curious to see how they stacked up against the Leatherman Raptor which I also have. I am an industrial emergency responder/first aid attendant in Canada, and was in the Canadian Forces (infantry with TCCC training) before that. I have the Leatherman, and while it is a great tool no doubt, I agree with you about the ergonomics/weight of the Raptor and trying to find a convenient way to carry it as well. I am able to customize my go bag, so I am currently using a Hazard 4 Watson sling pack for first response, and then we have the larger follow up kit with the O2 and everything else that the team brings out in the ETV with the board and stretcher and everything. I keep my Raptor in the pack, but I've been wanting something more comfortable to carry on my person, and while just out of the box the SOG Parashears feel great (lighter and more comfortable to use than the Raptor) I definitely want to give these XShears a try! Looks like the only way to get them here in Canada is direct from XShear as they are not available on Amazon.ca and US Amazon retailers are not shipping to Canada.
Definitely let me know if you pick up a the Parashears, I think you'll like them! Everyone stay safe out there, especially during this pandemic!

They look very nice, but i dislike that the holder isnt one-hand operational. Might even be a dealbreaker.

This video looks more like a promotion for Xshears than a review i appreciate the information you share about the pros and cons of each shears but without a direct comparison of cutting ability how the viewer can tell if Xshears is worth the price and they don't even provide information on what stainless steel they use on their official website.
