This was very helpful! My teacher in 9th grade didn't go into as much depth of the Scientific Method that this video shows. All she did was teach us with situational examples. You just got a new Sub
I know you're not active, but thank you so much for making this. I'm watching this for school and it explains everything I've learned in 4 minutes! Thanks again
Every year they make us review the scientific method.... like I GET IT JESUS CHRIST. But the video itself is very good lol- just annoyed at my school bc they make us do this when I could be work on the project due in the same class. So that’s my tea
First of all, I would like to thank you very much for this explanation of scientific research. Could you Pls give us an example of John Dewey's 5 Steps application about most of the members of my class failing in examination. thanks in advance.
The core of science is observation. We struggle with the fascinating study of reality because we project on to it our expectations instead of honoring its billions of years of evolution and simply admiring its brilliance and beauty.
This is a great video, but the scientific method is on its way out. It was a good starting point for teaching science, but is really very limited in it's ability to show what scientists really do. It can be useful if you are doing one experiment, like a science fair project, but scientists do a lot more than experimentation to collect data and test hypotheses (observation, simulation, model building, math, etc). And the process isn't as linear as the scientific method makes it seem (which you kind of address in the video - bravo!). The new wave of science education will go beyond this outdated and limited model. MIT teaches the cycle of scientific reasoning. I taught my students UC Berkeley's 8 practices of science and science flow chart this year.
Not a scientist, but I learned basically the same thing from my Bio Issues professor. I don't think it is accurate to say the scientific method is on the way out, though. It's just that, as you say, the scientific method as described to students -particularly young students- is not very realistic. I'm gonna have to look up what UC Berkeley's 8 practices of science is now.
