Peugeot 207 Wipers & Lights Starting Automatically When Vehicle Unattended and Locked - RESOLVED

  • My daughter's 207 (2008 1.4 Petrol) was experiencing a weird issue where the lights would come on and the wipers would start up. It happened at random times but often seemed to be during a damp spell of weather.
I tracked down the issue to a fuse box filled with water that was filling up from the bulkhead area.
The main issue is the garage that last worked on the car did not fit the cables in the grommets into the fuse box correctly and it allowed water into the are.
I think it pools in the bottom of the fuse box container and then seems to make the large fuses damp, and probably causes some interference on the can bus which then tells the car's body systems controller to fire up the wipers and lights.
We've noticed it on another two cars, both seem to be 207s with the same issue.
The board can be lifted out of the box once all the connectors are removed, they're foolproof too so you can only put back the connectors into the right socket.
Once opened, dry out the box and then reseal everything tightly, I managed to fit the cable grommets properly and it seems to work.
NOTE: It might take a couple of days to dry out the fuse board completely so we were taking battery connector off until it had fully dried out. I didn't want to warm everything up too much with the hairdryer in case it caused some damage.
I'm not a mechanic so if you're concerned about anything take it to a professional mechanic. Please don't damage your vehicle more than it already is.

If it doesn't work, might be worth taking to a peugeot specialist but I hope that drying it out and preventing any further water ingress does help you. You're welcome and thanks for leaving a lovely comment on my video!!

my Berlingo B9 just started doing this today, (aaah French electrics) i suspected it was the underbonnet fusebox , doesn't seem wet on top but will pull the fusebox out and check under it. One feels they don't really test these vehicles in real situations before making them. If wipers were frozen to screen and car decided to start them up it could cause an overheat/fire .

Seems a bit of a shinky design to me, I once had a Renault Scenic and that was supershonk, so I'd never have another french car. This one is my daughter's car and there have been umpteen issues with shonkiness. Cheers for stopping by and leaving a comment.

Sorry, I don't know that much about the electrical system of the car, probably best to take it to a professional mechanic or auto electrician. Good luck with it.
