  • In Magic, there are a bunch of cards that have the ability where they can’t be countered. These are often a pretty big headache for Blue decks that rely on their counterspells to deal with threats. However, there are a few cards that can still counter these uncounterable spells. So today, we’re going to to over the best cards in all of Magic that have the ability to deal with these uncounterable spells while they’re on the stack.

You actually don't want to skip the entire combat step. You want to cast Discontinuity after blockers are declared. So the opponent is tapped out, but no damage went through anywhere.

Fun trick with Unsubstantiate (And other "Bounce target spell" effects): Cast Approach of the Second sun (If you've cast it before, win, otherwise, gain 7 life and put it in your library 7 cards from the top), counter with your own Unsubstantiate, cast Approach again.
Because it checks if you've Cast it before, Not if it has Resolved before, this lets you skip the task of digging 7 cards down to get it back, and just gives you the win.
Very mana intensive, though, even if you intend to get your second casting next turn.

No mention of Redirect? That one's an awesome way to counter uncounterable counterspells. You cast it targeting the uncoutnerable counterspell, redirect the target of the counterspell to itself, and then poof. the uncounterable counterspell is countered by the game rules. I always loved that trick.

  • @Randoman590

Tangential note for the Red players who want to work around Dovin's Veto: You can use Deflecting Swat and similar "Change the Target" spells as basically the MtG equivalent of aircraft decoy flares for your spells.
    You cast a spell.
Opponent casts Dovin's Veto to counter your spell.
You cast Deflecting Swat, changing the target of Dovin's Veto to Deflecting Swat.
    Deflecting Swat resolves.
Dovin's Veto is now attempting to counter Deflecting Swat, which has already left the stack. So without a valid target, it fizzles.
Now the original spell you cast is free to resolve.

Another neat thing about Spell Queller (that hosed me at my last FNM), is that if you manage to get rid of an opponent's spell queller, that spell that you could cast has instant speed timing now, regardless of the spell's card type. This means that if the opponent has a t3feri in play, you don't get to cast that spell anymore... effectively making Spell Queller an ACTUAL counterspell.

The flavor text on that Divide By Zero card is savage.
If cards like that Commit/Memory or the werewolf that have been mentioned before are literally double sided, doesn't that present a problem of your opponent knowing what a card is before you draw it or play it?

Magic has so many great cards that's quite nasty. While I agree some cards are bad and quite ban worthy , what I love about this game is it's true to it's nature and some cards are intentionally better than what you can pay it's cost for. Broken cards just proove that some things are better than other or that you can have alternatives but they're just not as strong.
My most headache was when :
    You cast a creature spell
    Opponent counters it
You copy target spell [because you're simic and have blue blood left in you ]
Opponent uses " counter target spell , if counter this way , return to owner hand "
You again , somehow had counterspell [ this time with 1BB ( or BB ) ]
< or you could have just recasted the copy spell >
your opponent has " counter target spell that converted mana cost 3 or less "
If you think this is mind boggling enough , you should try some stuff like this more
When I gave up on winning in games over " play to learn , fun and experience "
I did some nasty things like Draw
or intentional suicides like deal damage to self or self draw cards and loose life
I have intentionally countered non threatening spells so that expecting my opponent to play this game of " counter target spell that is countering a spell you control which was copied from counter target spell of yours that first targeted a permanent spell they controlled "
    and what not.
And if this was not enough : Target person who reads my comment , drinks a glass of water , if that water was cold , they can't sleep for more than 5 hrs , if that water was hot , they can't wake up during the day for next 1 day , if that water was neither , you loose sleep for one day and can't go to toilet for that turn/day end . If this comment was deleted , destroy target person , they cannot go to graveyard when they die .

I have a scarab god build that heavily relies on commit to memory.
I use nyx weavers to self mill, using their active to get cards i might need. Most cards in deck are instant/sorceries, kill target creature, or target player mills. Then after I got a good amount of cards in their both graveyards, i kill my world shaper for milled mana, turn nernvalls disk,(i know i killed the spelling) for board wipe. Exile their graveyard. Cast rise from the deeps or whatever it's called (2/2 zombie token for every instant/sorcery) then cast memory for a fresh deck with no land while my opponents strategy is fucked.
And during all this i have a blue land that lets me take an extra turn. I use that and attack with a million tokens or let the scarab damage proc for the win.
I get hyper focused when i play it now so it doesn't see much play anymore but it's my second favorite build right after my Sigil of the empty throne/battlewise hoplite/epharas enlightenment angel machine

Nope, because Cosmic Cyclone and MST target something on the field, the stack is similar to "The chain" in yu-gi-oh, I don't know if there are cards that target effects or other cards in the chain (I know that are cards that can only be activated if there are chains of a length, which in magic would be a minimum of spells on the stack), but if they were then that would be the comparison.

It is weird that the act of removing a card from the field in magic can stop the card from working. Guess that's why everyone expects MST to negate in Yugioh lol

    • @fernandobanda5734

It's not from the field. Like they said, killing a Siege Rhino doesn't counter its ability. Magic has an intermediate zone called the stack and that's where you can counter or move stuff to stop it.

@@fernandobanda5734 your combo isn't truly countering with most of the effects either however while your combo typically works well with decks that don't have white available to them many of the effects will still be able to be used or trigger something else while my combo simply stops them in their tracks. Also I'm only showing that there are other possible viable options to deal with something that says can't be countered. If you have eight and a half tails and something to give yourself protection from white your almost untouchable and if you have painter's servent you can easily make it almost impossible for your opponents to touch anyone on your side of the board.

(Disclaimer: The following is meant in a "it's satire, laughing at yourself is priceless" way, not to be taken seriously*. And yes, this is inspired by "The First Person to Ever Have a Spell Countered" on UA-cam.)
1: "Okay, we've made new decks, and I'm ready for you this time! I cast this sorcery!"
    2: "I will Counterspell."
1: "...Great. Then I summon this creature!"
2: "Creatures are also spells. I Counterspell again."
1: "Ffffine, then I play this artifact."
    2: "Them too. Counterspelled."
1: "Then I play this, which specifically cannot be countered!"
2: "(plays anything from this list) No. And, especially for Discontinuity, here is a rules lawyer-y explanation of why that is not countered but it is."
1: "Yeah, awesome, this is fun. I get that TCGs are like golf: The specific goal of both is to play as little as possible, what a thrilling game. No wonder so many old people play it: They don't have the time or athleticism to spare. But Blue takes that a step further by not 'playing the game' at all and preventing the other player from playing either, and yet, you're still considered the winner. GG."
