I,m living in a country that tried its very best to accommodate every person that came here and claimed asylum. It was a catastrophic mistake. Riots ,murders ,sex crimes ,theft ,assault all statistics gone through the roof. Too many,too fast, Its been impossible to integrate all these people.I might add that many of these asylum claimants arrive with fantasy expectations of what is awaiting them. Its not being racists if it makes you feel uncomfortable,or you have fears about the new arrivals.

I'm not posing this question in opposition to housing genuine refugees, but couldn't the government have converted buildings to serviced emergency living spaces like these for Irish families as soon as the housing crisis became obvious years ago. It would have relieved a lot of stress off people.
Very few people in Ireland have an issue with those who are genuinely fleeing War - but when Russia invaded East Ukraine the population of which is predominantly ethnic Russian fled East to Russia - it makes no sense that they would go West for the protection of those who had slaughtered 15,000 of their citizens in the previous 8 years...!

A week or so ago a caller to a Cork radio station confirmed that she was being offered €800 per month to take in students who were from safe parts of Ukraine - she knew this because she was given their contact details including addresses of those students - who were coming for free accomodation and university placements..!

Sorry you are completely wrong in your statement that Ukranian forces killed 15,000 people in Donbas.
You should do some research before commenting.
For a start, less than 4000 killed in those years were non combatants, and included civilians killed on both sides of the divide. The rest were combatants including Ukrainian forces.

It seems like the planning is poor. The people of Ireland and the people coming in are both getting bad deals.
What exactly does planning mean?
There is a number of houses that can be built/refurbed in a year .. this is limited due to land, planning laws, workforce, materials & finance .. planning can not produce another 500 acres or 500 tradespeople or reduce housing regulation .. nor can it magically increase the number of school places, hospitals, etc
Planning means precious little when there are real world limitations on what can actually be provided ..
