Pause deadlifts are my favorite. Pause low for a solid 2 to 3 seconds and be amazed by the amount of teachable elements. When done correctly they don't feel uncomfortable on the lower back but instead do wonders for the whole posterior chain.
The duration of the pause is so much longer in my head, but when I look at the footage it is almost looking like a normal deadlift, had to keep my ego in check and lower the weight, thank you for the great video man.
Thanks Brendan, very informative as always! A video on how you breath when you do the deadlift for reps will be much appreciated, as well as an explanation on how you stay tight when you drop the bar back down (or even should you stay tight?) it seems trivial but i find that lots of guys struggle with that. thank you very much!
Great video and well spoken and explained ..I was curious as to how many "shitty" paused deadlifts there are on Instagram so I had to go and look...annnd it's baaaad 😅 Subscribed to your chanel 👍🏼
Great video, packed with some really good info! Your tutorials and informative videos are genuinely the best, man! Keep up the great work, thanks for sharing!
Tried paused deads today and it was the best feeling! I paused them for 3-5 seconds. The whole posterior chain and hips were super clogged after that. Definitely gonna add them to main program
At one point -- this was probably with 485 -- you did a set of 7... Looks like it was easier than planned and you just kept going until it was enough for a work set. Great video as always!
I find I have to go 85% at most of my 1RM to be able to do 7 paused reps, also anything above 4 reps tears up my hands and I need straps. I probably haven't been pausing long enough either, especially after seeing videos of people like Hafthor Bjornsson paused deadlifting with a 0.5 second pause.
There're definitely a lot of those close-to-the-knees, .05 second pAuSeD deadlifts I see on IG, which are just utterly useless ego lifts (done just so that these lifters can say they "paused" a lot of weight).

Exactly! Feels GREAT on the body and helps get rid of that shit back syndrome hahaha

Just count 2 or 3 mississippi's in your head, should take care of loading the bar too heavy 😉

I have my friends count for me sometimes! Trust me I do the same! It feels like an eternity in real time when it’s more like .5 seconds lol
@@BrendanTietzwhen are you coming out with an app?
I just started doing pause deadlifts! This video was so helpful!
Thanks Brendan, very informative as always!

I did slow reps before when I'm trying to learn it the but I'm going to bring pause deadlifts to the mix. Thanks a lot.
That’s a solid progression. Tempo deadlifts are overlooked for beginners imo!
Thanks for making a video on these! Paused deadlift has been my favorite variation for a while now, these tips were great.
Love pause deads, sheiko style above the knee as well. Any fellow masochists out there should try deficit paused deads with chains.
That actually sounds fun af!! I might give those a go in offseason purely for fun!

Always eddy!! Mad love bro!
Great vid! and nice jacket! i sometimes cycle in pauses deadlifts. lately ive been doing wide stance snatch grip (Candito) deadlifts.
Hahaha thank you! Those are solid too! Especially for sumo pullers!
Just incorporated pause deads into my programming! Great timing haha. Thanks Brendan
You’re very welcome! You’ll love them!

I'm scared to lock out explosively as I injured my back hyperextending during lockout one day and I don't want it happening again.
hard to maintain lat tightness for me, ahaha nice video by the way!
Just failed a 240kg sumo deadlift due to posterior tilt, which made me unable to lockout the lift.
This video helped a lot
U get it yet?

Inb4 you start programming 2sec crispy pauses in my program RIP
Your pauses are usually pretty good... key word usually 👀

That's nuts. Even doing 7 normal reps with 85% of your 1rm seems abnormal.
Any tips on bracing/breathing for this exercise?
Would doing paused deads on a hypertrophy day affect recovery? Since it would mean pulling 2x a week from the floor
Its difficult to focus (🧠 dizzy) on the video when the cameraman keeps moving...have it motionless so we can view it more better.
Thx :)

Precisely 👀 so useless and honestly so easy to use nearly your same max for that fake pause
So you only do the slack pull on the first rep?
No, every rep.

It’s scary when ya go heavy! Sometimes that arch just happens and you are like please don’t break my back!
Yeahhhh LOL my 2019 meet grinder where I held my deadlift at the knees for 6 seconds was pretty scary lol my back was folded af
Good stuff. Do you like pause front squats ?
From time to time I’ll prescribe them a pause or tempo to help them focus on both quad position and back tightness!
@@BrendanTietz any tips to cure knee valgus during deadlift ?
I stopped using these because i felt like i lost explosiveness
That’s why I mentioned the floor break and finish portions, you can def loose explosiveness if not done correctly.
Do you even algorithm?
Every deadlift has to be perfect - no exceptions.
