The assorted Viper troops and specialists are literally the only thing I ever loved about the GI Joe franchise. I grew up a Transformers kid, but the various Vipers were always cool to me.
I've always had a thing for faceless disposable troopers. Love the basic Cobra trooper and officers. Love some of the viper variants, if they don't get too weird and hard on the eyes. That' was the GIJOE franchise's deathblow. All the neon unrealistic crap.

My guess was 50, I remember all of these. My first was the original Tele Viper and I ended up buying a lot of them over the years. Gyro Viper was my pilot suit Cobra Commander. 😄 I was wondering from the start if the Toxo- Zombie would make the list since they're zombified Toxo-Vipers with a lot of retooling.

The 1986 Viper (or ‘Vipers’) are great for army building. They went for $2.99 a pop in Kiddie City and ToysRus back in the day. I regret not buying multiples of that figure back then at that price as my interest was to get as varied a collection of Cobra figures as I could. Nowadays I just focus on the ground troops of Cobra and their ‘allies’ like the Iron Grenadiers, Crimson Guard Immortals, and Ninja Strike Force.

That bugged me as a kid so much that Vipers that sported Facial hair were recast as an individual Cobra character.. which we needed way more of anyways.. I did the samething in making Air Devil & Night Vulture their own character too.. They were just really too distinct to be a random viper.
Had no idea there were so many vipers. Deep-Six's counterpart looks cool. I don't recall ever having seen him. I'd love to see it with a recollering closer to a classic GI Joe deep sea diver with some brass coloring. The '90s colors were a bit much for me, but the only sculpts I didn't like were the two alien monsters. They're not bad as a separate line, but just don't seem to fit in with G.I. Joe.

My brother had Alley Viper v1, HEAT Viper, Rock Viper, Astro Viper, Alley Viper v2. My cousin had Night-Viper, Frag Viper. My buddy had Range Viper, Aero Viper & Star Viper. Also some one had a SAW Viper, I don't remember the figure at all, but I remember having that huge gun that came with him.

You can tell why they were losing, all of those different uniforms for slightly different specialties ($$$$), and in colours that you could see for miles in pitch darkness.
Wow, that is a lot of Vipers. I stopped collecting, forcibly, in 1989. So I didn't see, get or view any of those wild-looking Vipers. It seemed like in the 90s, in order to get consumer attention you needed colors that hurt. I sincerely hope that Hasbro doesn't revisit those releases any time soon for the Classified Series. Seeing such color-clash in 3.75 inches is about to do double-pain at 6 inches.
I have a very small percentage of those Vipers as the only figures I recall owning are the OG Viper (red and blue) and the Astro Viper. That big helmet seemed really silly to me.

What about the Crimson Viper's ? ... True it's just a re-paint honor guard for the Crimson Cobra Commander ... But they are Vipers.. Or the Pitt Viper s another up-date isn't out of line... it 's what just 6 more? Well 7 if you include the Zombie Viper's

And yes you'll ask about Medic-viper well I prefer Scalpel or Neo-vipers... well the Movie type are ok... but others yuck.. So aside from redesigns or new colors plus a very few Officers like skull crusher ... and a Alley viper commander Graffiti was it ? That will do...

1989 was my favorite group….really cemented the Vipers as a bad ass subset.
I had Techno Viper, Alley Viper, Laser Viper, and Range Viper. Techno Viper was one of my favorite GI-Joe figures of all time.
I was a Joe kinda kid, Cobra were definitly the enemy. But the original Viper has always been one of my favourite looking figures.

Only criteria to make the list was "Viper" in the name or specialty so like Mercer, I see Toxo-Zombies as former Vipers.
Loved the underwater figures and the vipers so when hydro-viper came out 💜 still easily my favorite viper
