    I'm a waiter in a Chinese restaurant and this video is one of my go-to playlists. Older people like how relaxing it is, younger kids seem to think it's cool too. But I love it when someone my age recognizes one of the songs and we get to talk about how much these games meant to us as kids, and how they've still left impressions on our adult psyches. I mean Super Mario RPG taught me to read, this stuff is close to my heart. Thanks for bringing people a little bit closer!

    Old school video game music reminds all of us of an important fact about art: Limitation can sometimes be of great benefit to art. Less can truly be more.

    SNES drunk...
    I am currently drinking a cold brew and grinding away studying for a final.
    In the last few years, I have had some unfortunate adverse events with multiple family members/friends and my own health. It was to the point where I had to put my career and family to the side.... completely step away.
    The only person who has helped me through all this is my son. This is where you come in... We play these old games, watch your videos, and put this compilation as I study like I am right now while I type this. He hears the familiarity from the old games we play together and calls them out.
    It brings a smile to my face. It is always the little things in life. Thank you for this.

    I can say the Sony SPC700 sound controller chip is one of the thing that influence who I am. It has my favorite ever sound signature. I've never heard another console system that deliver the same warm timbre combined with it's level of clarity. It creates a very warm bittersweet and nostalgic sound, but with a lot of body and clarity. I wouldn't be as much of a music lover today if I didn't hear the music coming from this sound chip as a kid, it effectively made me a lover of video games and music. None of the game consoles I played earlier or afterward have the same sound.

    • @DeskoDev
      @DeskoDev 5 років тому +3

      Sure, I'd say it's got great warmth, but the gaussian filter + not-so-perfect frequency (32KHz) definitely drops the clarity, yet for some games the former is absolutely necessary and even the clearer, less muddy sounding sinc filter that emulators support would cause a downgrade with some of these more atmospheric ones.

    • @someguy43210
      @someguy43210 5 років тому +1

      I don't know the technicalities of it, but to my ears depending on the games and soundtrack it does have good clarity. The SNESAPU plugin for foobar2000 have various options to play with, so I can increase the sample rate. I converted the SPC files to FLAC and listened to them on my LG with the quadDAC.

    • @DeskoDev
      @DeskoDev 5 років тому

      I do enjoy the crisp, deep resonance the MSX2 and the PC-Engine were able to produce. Listen to some of Snatcher or Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake. Very unique and powerful sound with depth that will pierce into your body and resonate. Like nothing I've heard today tbh.

    • @DeskoDev
      @DeskoDev 5 років тому +3

      @@Krystalmyth MG2:SS doesn't use the MSX sound hardware at all. It uses a custom audio chip located inside the cartridge :)
      In fact, there were a lot of sound expansions for the MSX2 like the later MSXMUSIC spec which added FM synthesis like the Genesis. Final Fantasy is a great example of that, though it also supports PSG music. Both ways are far better than the original NES soundtrack besides some swapped around tracks.

      The 90s was a great time to grow up because of the entertainment balance that a lot of kids had: engaging in traditional recreation (outdoor activities) before coming home at night to play games.I think a lot of younger kids lack that balance; everything is so steeped in technology these days.
