    I’m taking this train from GA to DC on my way to CA. Thank you for the DC highlights. I have a 2 hr layover there. The train looks nice.

    Thanks for the vid. My wife and I are comptenplanting taking the Cresent 19 roomette from PHL to ATL. ~15hrs. She'll be 7mo pregnant and we're curious how comfortable it'd be. Train might be easier than driving, and that lounge at 30th st is an added bonus we didn't know about.

    Why can’t Amtrak complete the perimeter around America by completing the tracks from Jacksonville, Fl to Mobile, Al. If they do this you can travel the complete distance around America…north, south, east, west on outer edges of America.? Get it done Amtrak.

    Being Scottish, AmTrack trains seem kind of interesting. I think that there are only two sleeper trains in the UK. There's one that goes from London to Cornwall (I think), and the other is the Caledonia Sleeper, which goes from London to Scotland.

      Good to know. Amtrak rides are not super common in the States but the overnights can be a nice way to cross the country if you have extra time.

      @@Intentionaltravelers I'm sure that it's a great way to see parts of the USA that you might not see other wise. That's what I love about doing my own channel. It challenges me to go out and see parts of Scotland that I might not see other wise.

    This is such a dismal downgrade of what Amtrak New York to New Orleans used to be.
    They removed the dining car that they had upgraded. Once the CEO was apointed by the new Commander in Chief , He was told to destroy Amtrak. He followed orders.
    1. Prices for sleepers have been jacked up! You now pay more for less!
    2. No more traditional dining or meals cooked to order. They give you food in a bag that was micrwaved and its lousy. Tastes worst than food on a plane. You are forced to eat it in your confined sleeper! You don't get to meet people. Fast food would be better! And I don't eat fast food. This is institution food!!!
    3.One shower for each Car?
    Bring a case of water, they don't provide complimentary water for sleepers.
    4. You arrive in New Orleans late in the evening and miss the beautiful sunset as you cross Lake Ponchatrain! More money, less ambience!
    Old New York to New Orleans: Sleeper Amenities
    1. first class lounge had plush comfortable seating, lots of snacks and a great staff.
    2. Complimentary water, coffee and tea.
    3.Dinner was cooked to order; Example: Flatiron steak cooked to order, salad with choice of paul newman dressings, warm roll, free soft drink, water, coffee or tea, baked potato, steamed vegetables, selection of deserts. Staff received generous tips!
    Breakfast Choices: Grits, eggs, sausage or bacon, juice, otmeal, cereal, pastry, coffee tea, toast, water,biscuit yogurt, fruit.
    Lunch: Hamburger or cheeseburger, pickles, chips, pizza, hot dog.
    IF YOU CAN GET A CHEAP DEAL VIA PLANE TAKE IT! AMTRAK FROM NEW YORK TO NEW ORLEANS HAS BECOME A CATTLE CAR! THIS BREAKS MY HEART!
    DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE. THEY'VE NEVER TAKEN THE TRAIN BEFORE COVID OR REGIME CHANGE!

      That not exactly true. All long distance trains have a dinning car and open for sleeper car passengers and on some routes coach passengers can purchase food in the dinning car. For Amtrak all trains east of Chicago have flexible dinning which are meals prepared beforehand and just warmed up in the micro on the train. All Amtrak routes west of Chicago and San Antonio has traditional dinning which are cooked meals on the train.

      Sorry Chris but I've been riding the Crescent between NJ and GA for over 20 years and they're absolutely correct! Prior to COVID I was on Amtrak twice in 2018, once in coach the other time a sleeper. And each time the dining car was full service for all passengers.
      All of my meals were prepared by the chef (which you could see if you came from coach) and eaten at the tables with other passengers. The head attendant in first class even had meals made for us 3hrs after the kitchen closed because the train was late and we weren't offered anything to snack on in Atlanta!
      Fast forward to Sept 2023, and my breakfast and lunch were delivered to my cabin in a bag☹️. The quality and the variety of the food just isn't the same anymore and it's not just a "times have changed" thing either.
      If what you say is true that trains West of Chicago have prepared meals, then Amtrak has some serious explaining to do because at these prices, they're going to start to lose customers who are unwilling to pay for half-assed service.

      When you do a search for a route on a specific day, Amtrak's website will show any available coach and room options side by side. It may be that rooms are no longer available if you're not seeing that option. You can always call Amtrak about reservations as well.

    What was your favorite meal on this train? What do you think about toilet next to bed. How many hours of uninterrupted sleep did you get on this train.

    Question: did the room smell with the toilet right there? Also, if you are sitting in the chairs that face each other. Do your knees touch? They seem pretty close.

    • @Intentionaltravelers
      @Intentionaltravelers  4 місяці тому

      Hi Mary. There was no smell from the toilet. I don't know how that plumbing works but whether the lid was open or shut, we didn't smell anything. Our knees did not touch although neither of us are tall. We sometimes bumped feet, but the space was generally manageable.

    What hotels would you recommend close to the New Orleans train station?

    • @Intentionaltravelers
      @Intentionaltravelers  8 місяців тому

      We looked into the possibility of staying near the train station. It's not a great area but there are a couple hotels nearby, including Holiday Inn Express and Hyatt.

    How tall are you guys? I'm 6'3" with a metal knee replacement and I would love to ride a train but have concerns about leg space.

    • @Intentionaltravelers
      @Intentionaltravelers  8 місяців тому

      We're not tall. I'm not sure what the length of the beds would be but you could probably find it on the Amtrak website. As for leg space while seated, it would be plenty if traveling solo but could be an issue if you're traveling with a companion. The nice thing about the train is you would have more opportunity to get up and stretch your legs.

    Can someone who is 6’3 be comfortable in a Crescent Roomette for 2 people

    • @Intentionaltravelers
      @Intentionaltravelers  4 місяці тому

      We're both short so we may not be the best people to answer this for you. There's more space than an airplane seat, you're just facing each other so you may need to coordinate your feet positions a little.
