I grew up there my parents were medics who trained in UK and returned in the 60s to run parts of the hospital and also lecture there. We have people from all over west African studying medicine there or have passed through this hospital even the current intellectuals who run the UNIVERSITY of GHANA MEDICAL SCHOOL. kwame Nkrumah aquaired a large land around when he took over for to train all the multidisciplinary staff and support staff. We have school for the following laboratory techs, dentistry, sterilising technicians of all sorts. The cardiology dept was the first one in the area where other neighbouring countries were bringing their patients. Now some corrupt officials have reduced the land mass that Nkrumah had foresight and acquired. It was as big as a small town.

Please it is a community... University of Ghana is a community... KNUST is a community... Volta River Authority.... There are many government organizations and agencies that are built with community in mind
I've seen this ultramodern machine in 3 hospitals in Ghana so far. Medlab (more advance one), UGMC and now Korlebu. 🇬🇭

The hospital being the oldest needs total redevelopment.. half of the buildings are degenerating.. I believe it will be done at some point...

Korle bu is the biggest in w.africa 4th in Africa 41th in the world 5000 bed capacity no hospital in w.Africa even have 2000 bed is soo big.
