I just watched one of your videos from 2 years ago where you talked about your John Deer being the best mower for Bermuda. Man, how times have changed. You can tell a huge difference in those videos and today's in how good your lawn looks. I bought my mower for $50 new, my wife almost fainted when I asked if I could spend $350 on a new mower. Want to upgrade from my Honda HRX217 eventually, but have a really bad slope on my side of house and also in the back left corner of my house. The Honda works great, but want to be able to get a lower Height of Cut without the constant donuts I get now cutting at 1.5"-2". I realize I need to level my lawn this summer, but regardless, still get a ton of scalp marks with my rotary mower.

Ok Doc I bought the Mclean 25 " mower you demonstrated and recommended. I assembled the mower as per the instructions and it starts and runs, but the handle to control the traction wheels works the opposite of what you demonstrated, and will not lock in the up position. Makes moving it with out the drive wheel quite a rodeo. I have sent two notes to Mclean, with no response, Can you help me.

Which of the McLane Mowers are you using to cut your backyard is it the putting green one or is it the standard one that you have the link to on your website? I ask because you say that your grass is down to a half an inch cut . The mower that Mark sends that unless you adjust the rear axle you can’t get lower than 7/8 “ with a front adjustment. If you have adjusted the rear axle on that McLane Mower can you please say so and then make a video on how you do that.

Doc, I have also been looking into growth regulators for the sole purpose of thickening up my lawn. I see in the video you have a granular one, which I have not ran across in my searching. Is this new, or safer, or easier to apply? The ones that I have found are liquid (one that gets absorbed through the blades & one that gets absorbed through the roots). Not to mention names...P maxx and T-_ _ _. Your thoughts??
I think it's EASIER and safer to apply than a liquid for the average homeowner. That's why I picked it. "X" pounds per 1000 sq feet is a lot easier than spraying calcs.
The only trick really is to play with it BEFORE you insert the cotter pin. Adjust it back and forth until it feels right... then install. Yes... I've had to remove and adjust.

😆😆. The only time the clutch and handle felt like ONE was when the belt was shredding... that was the most comfortable two mins I've had since I bought the damn thing.. Also, I noticed on page 8 of the owners manual that it states this mower can go down to 1/4in.. not sure if you seen that.. i wonder if we dropped the back it would go down to that height I bought this off Amazon.. I’m surprised that your local John Deere dealer even touched your John Deere mower since it’s from a big box store(Lowe’s or Home Depot). A lot of them do not service them cause they can not warranty the work since it did not come from the dealer.
Actually all the John Deeres sold at the big box stores are inspected by the local dealer before sale and a tag for service placed on them. They are happy to service.
Doc, you mentioned your lawn was cut to 1/2 inch. I thought the McLane went from 3/4 to 2 inches cut. Could you clarify McLane's specs? Thanks. ( I am assuming you used the McLane mower.)

I'm using a sun joe reel mower and am having issues with it leaving waves because it's only a 5 blade mower. I only have a 2500 sq ft yard so I'm struggling justifying buying a 1800 dollar machine. I'm probably going to be ordering the earthwise 7 blade reel mower to try to get rid of the waves.

Hmmmmm. I have my front roller bar set in the highest hole. Only cutting at inch and a quarter. That’s why I was wondering if I needed to drop rear axle. A video would help on how to set mower at lowest level
Man I’m sorry for the confusion. I ordered 2 of the Mclanes. I have not done anything to the rear axle. All I have done is set the roller bar with grooves in the lowest setting. Which is in the top hole. This is the 3 holes on the side. My cutting height is 1 1/4. I will be happy if I can just get my cutting height to 3/4 in.
It really isn't about the size of the lawn... it's more about the SMOOTHNESS that a wider mower gives you without the need for perfect leveling. Smaller units tend to follow rut marks and bumps. But yes... you could use a 20.

I've never had an issue because it's too low of a dose when sprayed. Just when spilled in concentrate.

If you have Bermuda and want it LOW... then a reel is needed. Again the rules kind of determine the choices at least for us.

Not when it comes to powered Reel Mowers. They are not cheap, even the cheapest ones.

Bermuda or couch as we say in Australia really slows down in winter... but iron can help. If you have full sun.

No, it's pretty common with all the rain we've had. We just watch it and treat only when needed. So far no dollar spot.

The GR only goes down to about 3/4" so it would have to be the GK model.

Yes................ take out the pin and adjust by screwing the WHOLE rod. The clutch and handle should feel like ONE when squeezed.

Regular Mclanes cut between 3/4" and about 1/5"

No not yet. You may want to look at your PULLEYS and see if they are inline. I had to adjust mine.

We use the GK series on the back lawn. It will cut from zero to about 3/4. The GR series cuts about 3/4" to 1.5" We use that out front.

Sorry... I thought you meant you wanted it lower.... About 1.25" to 1.5 is the hghest and really that's the highest you should take Bermuda.
