I watch these to decompress after a long day. Something so relaxing about cutting a beautiful green lawn. The pride you have in your property is beautiful.
Great job. Question: How do you keep the edges so clean around you beds? Bermuda wants to spread and I always have a hard time keeping it out of my landscaping. Yours is fantastic!
I mow a few times a week and edge the beds each time. And spray roundup once or twice a month. So I think it’s more of a staying on top of it thing. Bermuda is definitely invasive and will go everywhere if allowed.
Great Video! Noticed you did not engage the groomer. Could you please give us insight into your experience how and when to use it? All the best from Austria in Europe.
Great video. I'm glad there are other people out there as crazy as I am about my grass. I have a riding rotary mower but am very disappointed in the way the cut turns out most of the time with uneven and scalping. I have a push reel mower but i can only barely clip the tips of the grass. Otherwise it bogs down. How much does something like this run?
It is Friday night and I am watching a video of a guy mowing his lawn. This is what my life has become :-) Your lawn looks gorgeous. I am currently renting a home that has a Bermuda lawn. Unfortunately this lawn has been badly mismanaged for years. I don't know if it is salvageable or not. It has been mowed with a traditional mower for years. What would happen if I were to use a reel mower on it and cut it to the proper height? Would it end up killing the lawn? Is there a strategy for bringing an improperly maintained Bermuda lawn back into shape?
I cut at .15" on my green salad I need it but look into the accugauge for HOC. It's $150 so it's not cheap but precision is the beauty of reel mowers. Well worth it when you look at what anything else costs.
Love this video I have a question I have a 220c with the grooming kit. How to you set the hight of groom with it I've been looking around and haven't gotten any answers.
Thanks! Depends on how aggressive you want to be. Test it starting just a touch lower than your height of cut. Then if you want it more aggressive obviously you can go lower. I’m just guessing 1/16”-1/4” lower
What kind of bermuda do you have? In Oklahoma City my common bermuda tends to look really bad when mowed low like bermuda should be but stays dark green when mowed a bit high. I'm thinking of laying sod from Latitude 36 that I can keep around 1inch.
Do you reel cut for clients or is that your personnel mower for your yard? Another reel mowing channel to watch is Conner Ward. hes up in North Dakota and reels bluegrass. Nice vid brother!
Nice video but it's height of cut , not heithth of cut ...no such word as heighth ..I used to be a greenkeeper on a rural 9 hole 18 tee course and I made a aluminium bar with a threaded bolt to do the same thing .super fine feeler gauge to check blade /bed adjustment . My two mowers were Rover with 24" cut ..Now that course uses triplex ..faster but nowhere near the quality of cut and it causes compaction .I like how you leave the catcher off too in this application because the clippings are acting like a natural mulch for the grass ..Good stuff ..
hi, thank you for your video... i do however i have a question. so im dealing with the same issue as everyone else where my grass is around 2 to maybe even 3 inches long and therefore if i cut it to 1 inch short then everything will be brown. so how long before it gets green again and how often do i need to cut it before is green all the way and every-time i cut it and still be the right length

Can you make a video for adjusting & utilizing the verticutter (GTC - Greens Tender Conditioner) please?
I watch these to decompress after a long day. Something so relaxing about cutting a beautiful green lawn. The pride you have in your property is beautiful.
Wow, thank you!
That is one nice mower
Your place looks absolutely awesome! Nice mower too!
Thanks
Looks like your neighbors take pride in there lawn also...You just bring it to another level. Nothing like the cut of a reel mower.
You can't beat the quality of a "reel" cut!
Very well done. Thank you for sharing. I'm in the market for a reel mower. This really helped.
Thank you! So glad it was helpful!
Beautiful yard and lawn. You live in well kept neighbored it looks like. I wish I knew where to look for a good used reel mower.
Check auctions, golf courses, online market places
Just purchased a 220b and I had a question about something but you covered it. Great video nice looking yard btw
Thanks! Glad it helped!
Wow! Amazing looking Neighborhood!
Nice vid mate 👍
Thanks
Thanks yard looks very nice I have got a lot of ideas
Thanks!
What a great looking yard.
Thanks
Look at that lawn domination.
Thanks
Wow its like carpet.
How often do you run the verticutter? Love video on using this
Once to twice a season
Your property looks great. You must have a lot of spare time. I can barely keep my yard mowed with a riding mower.
Thank you for the kind words! I make time for things that interest me!
Great video- when do you use the groomer or verticutter?
Usually mid way thru summer.

I use it a couple of times a season. It’s pretty hard on the turf. So usually it’s used in the spring and summer and that’s about it.

If you find one at an auction, maybe 700-800.00. Thanks
Do you have a video of how to adjust the HOC? I just purchased a John Deere Reel Mower and would love to see how everything can be adjusted!
I can make one for you! Congrats on the mower
That would be awesome!!

It won’t hurt it. Bermuda is an aggressive grass. It would just need water since we are in the heat of the summer

Are the transport wheel axles removable? Did you cut the axles off?
The previous owner cut them off.
Now this is how you’re supposed to cut Bermuda! Job well done sir.
Do you ever oversees with rye in the winter to have green all year long?
Thanks! I don’t because I need a break from the summer lol
The Southern Reel Mower lol. I can understand that. Your lawn is huge!
Love this video I have a question I have a 220c with the grooming kit. How to you set the hight of groom with it I've been looking around and haven't gotten any answers.

Loved using my 180c when I owned it unfortunately I stoped cutting the grass for my local cricket club so had no need to keep it
I’ve owned this one for maybe 4-5 years. It’s been a great machine!!
Nice man! Did you do a of sanding/leveling?
I built this home 2 years ago and it’s been sanded once. I’ll be doing it again next spring.
@@TheSouthernReelMower let me know when you do this so I can come help and take notes :)
Were on the greens mower can i find the model number on the john deere 220b
Model or serial number? The model is 220b
@@TheSouthernReelMower serial number sorry, my real is a 11 blade real and I need to replace it.
How did you remove the transport wheel spindles?
They were removed when I got the mower

I have tiffway. Common can’t tolerate the Low height of cut like the hybrids can. If you’re laying sod check out tiff grand.
You got any leads on getting a 180 jd? Or any good sources to get one?
Man, they are hard to come by. Check eBay, Facebook marketplace, online auctions, local golf courses etc
Do you reel cut for clients or is that your personnel mower for your yard? Another reel mowing channel to watch is Conner Ward. hes up in North Dakota and reels bluegrass. Nice vid brother!
I used to provide the service years ago. Now I just mow my own lawn.
Conner lives in Utah not ND
well i was close enough for youtubes. honestly couldnt remember but he makes quality content so i felt the need to throw his channel out there.
Do you use PGR on your lawn?
Yes! It’s a must have
I've got the 220 JD. Need to replace a broken reel. How much work do you think I'm in for?
I wouldn’t think it’s to bad. Take your time and take pictures or lay the parts out in order for reassembly. Good luck
What Bermuda seed do you use thanks
There aren’t many seed varieties on the market. This was tifway Sod.
Can you use this mower to cut zoysia grass? It's defeating our mowers.
Yes, I would highly recommend for zoysia!
What year of your john deere reel mower?
I believe a 2009 or 2011
@@TheSouthernReelMower do you know any place I can find one used? Ebay maybe?
I’ve heard of online auctions and then will ship it to you on a pallet or skid.
I want to buy ,How to contact ?
did you disengage the verticut reel? it was not turning
You can turn the groomer on and off as needed. I usually don’t run it.
Hi again! what is the maximum height setting for these John Deere's machine? (180 & 220 hybrid)?
I’m not totally sure to be honest. My guess would be 1”
:) thanks
what kind of mower u got?
I have toro and John Deere

Did I pronounce it incorrectly? O well, I’m from Georgia, what do you expect lol
heighthhhh of cut? :)
Oh come on 😂
@@TheSouthernReelMower lol just busting your chops
My wife always corrects me. But My argument is it makes sense because you have length, width, and “heigth”.
Looking at a John deere 220B that's in good shape for about 850... Good deal or should I spend the extra on a 220E?
I don’t know much about the 220e but I think the 220b is a good mower is you could get it for 650-700

John Deere made these?
Yes, Jd makes tons of commercial golf course equipment
Dude! Can't see anything on the adjustments
Put in a hole and bring out the putter. I can only dream of this in Ohio.
Thanks! You can grow bentgrass there. That’s prob the best turf for greens lol
Yeah... There's just zero reason to go through that much trouble to cut grass... Ever.
Thanks for the comment
2-3 times a week? So wasteful. Might as well just get a non engine reel mower. It should be very easy if your mowing that often.
You think so? Thanks for the comment
