    One thing I do not understand is in Ad Hoc mode, can anyone actually connect to the internet? Like can you use UA-cam for example, or is it just to share files and what not between computers.

    Hi Sunny, as I understood you said that AP is a L2 device, but we know that it supports routing as well, so why still we call it L2 instead of L3? Or maybe I got you wrong?

    • @sunnyclassroom24
      @sunnyclassroom24  6 років тому +15

      L2 device handle MAC address while L3 handles IP address. AP adds its own MAC address (BSSID, 48-bit address) to wireless frame. Besides, AP forwards frames within one domain (one WLAN) not two networks. thus it is L2 device, not L3.
      Thank you for your question. In my next video, I would make it clearer when I talk about AP, BSS, BSSID, ESS and ESSID.

    great video, I wished you give examples for ad hoc

    • @sunnyclassroom24
      @sunnyclassroom24  6 років тому +3

      Ad Hoc is whenever you connect several devices (even two) together. Situations can include home, small office, or a small- group meeting when people bring their own devices and connected together.

      @@sunnyclassroom24 I don't know if my understanding is correct: Bluetooth, USB cables, or even bare wires can make two or more devices connected to each other. Are all the above considered as methods to achieve ad hoc network? If yes, could you give me more examples? If not, please correct me where I misunderstood:) And thank you so much for your great video!

    • @sunnyclassroom24
      @sunnyclassroom24  5 років тому +1

      @@misstrumpetxiranzhou699 You are correct. The other two are easier to understand. Bluetooth: simple example, you can connect any mouse to almost any computer.

    How to do it ?

  • @Emesis13

    Can a server be inserted into ad hoc network? Can the other pc communicate with the server while in ad hoc network?

    • @sunnyclassroom24
      @sunnyclassroom24  6 років тому +2

      sure, why not? However, normally for the security reason, no one is willing to do so, but for learning or experimental purpose, or nothing-is-important server, yes.
