- In the realm of product and e-commerce photography, lighting is the unsung hero, and crafting the perfect lighting setup is an art in itself. Especially when it comes to photographing shiny, reflective objects.
In this video, professional photographer and educator Karl Taylor, delves into the world of the Light Cone, exploring its simplicity and versatility-whether in its larger form or the convenient smartphone version-and its prowess in harmonising with diverse lighting sources to elevate your product photography outcomes.
Light Cone Advantages
The Light Cone stands out for its exceptional adaptability to various lighting environments. Whether you're working with standard desk lamps or harnessing the beauty of natural light, this accessory proves to be a game-changer, effortlessly refining the quality of light and amplifying the overall visual allure of your photographs.
1. Desk Lamp Lighting
Our starting point involves the use of very affordable LED desk lamps, readily available at your local hardware store. The initial setup yields lacklustre results-marked by high contrast, dim reflective surfaces, and unwelcome shadows.
With the Light Cone you'll witness a dramatic transformation in lighting dynamics. Strategic placement of the Cone over your subjects yields stunning results, introducing graduated lighting and enriching tones, particularly on glossy surfaces.
Tweak the LED desk lamp positions to tailor your lighting effects. The Light Cone's diffusion material allows for seamless adjustments, showcasing its flexibility in creating the desired atmospheric effects.
2. Natural Light!
Karl also showcases the Light Cone outdoors by enhancing natural light in product images beyond the confines of the studio.
In Conclusion
In the hands of all photographers (or mobile camera users), the Light Cone emerges as an indispensable tool-versatile, budget-friendly, and transformative.
Whether you're a seasoned professional or an avid enthusiast, this accessory paves the way for imaginative and breathtaking lighting scenarios, turning ordinary shots into extraordinary masterpieces.
The beauty of the Light Cone is that it works its magic with all types of lighting. In this video, you'll even see me use it outdoors with nothing but natural light. The Before and After shots will blow your mind!

Carl, I'm a huge China fan of yours, for a year I couldn't find a way to buy in China, it frustrated me, the Chinese market is huge and there are a lot of people interested in paying
wooow wonderful kit thank you .
Was the picture of the gold necklace edited after using the light cone, or is that the original picture taken with the light cone? I ordered a light cone mobile version and I will be getting it tomorrow. I hope I don't get disappointed.
It is exactly as it was. Thanks for ordering and let us know how you get on. See the tips for use videos on V-Flat World website.
@@VisualEducationStudio I watched all the videos already. What can I use to hold rings upright without having to edit what is holding it?
@@VisualEducationStudio Hi, I just got my light cone for mobile and I can confirm that the Jewelry image you showed was edited. You lied about that! It would be better to tell people that they might need to edit it to give it a polished finish, but you lied when I asked if it was edited. Your company is a rip off and I just wasted 69 Cad of money I can't afford. I am a college student, and this purchase was in hopes that your solution would help me. But instead you sold a lie to me. You showed edited photos and claim they were the original. Why would you do such a thing? I am so heartbroken and stressed cause I am out money I couldn't afford.
Hi, you can't confirm anything at all because we can give you 100% assurance that the photos were taken as seen in our video, we have not lied about anything and also do not appreciate your wild accusations which we believe are more likely down to you using the product incorrectly or just hoping for a refund. Your second statement I'm afraid also can't be true given the thousands of satisfied customers who love this product and use it on a daily basis and have give excellent reviews. If you are genuinely confused on how to use the product properly for best results then please email us and we will direct you to the appropriate instructional videos.

Amazing thank you
What is the name of those 3 lamps you use at the start and where do you get them in the UK? TIA
They look great, but slightly matt finish even when the item is high gloss - maybe inserting black card might give a more 3D effect?
Thank you for commenting :) This previous video shows exactly that concept: ua-cam.com/video/y7uBr6CnTF8/v-deo.htmlsi=DCbSnEFXebJO9jdw&t=506
What is currect name this ( cone ) defuser
thank you, great advice
wow awesome tip thank you!
Happy to help!
Thanks!
Welcome!
Karl, thank you for your great work! I saw in your video my favorite fantastic macro lens from Sony 90mm F2.8.
Thanks yes that's a good lens
You can buy a collapsible lightbox with color temp consistent lights in for less than those LED desk lamps.
Also the "light cone" doesn't eliminate the reflection of the dark embouchure the lens has to look through. Teaching us how to get around that issue would be more useful, considering your audience is mostly made up of professional photographers.
For someone I’ve followed for years and seeing you use the greatest tech it’s always awesome when you show these videos using a translucent cone and iPhone stunning.
