In 1983, 2 years after the 1st entry of Cyprus ever, the Greek jury thought to pass on the Cypriots and awarded them a nice 0. In retrospective this must have felt pretty weird so - to my perception - this was the desicive factor who lead to the Greece - Cyprus 12s once and for all no matter what.

Finally we didn't mind the politics and voted logically and we gave 12 pts to Greece in 2005 😍

Just to let everyone know... Greece and cyprus are the same nation... We got seperated due to political reasons, but we are all Greeks, we speak the same language, have the same history, we even have the same national anthem, we are one nation... we are not just neighbors, cyprus used to be one of the greek islands.
Just to let YOU and others who have been misinformed by your comment to know, eventhough TRNC has a different government than Southern Cyprus, 1/3 of Cyprus has Turkish ancestry. So, no, Greece and Cyprus are NOT the same nation, Greece and Southern Cyprus ARE the same nation. Government of Republic of Cyprus claim to be the only representetive of the Cyprus island yet they act like only Greek people live on the island.
And for centuries, Cyprus have remained to be one of the Turkish islands. Before that, Cyprus was one of the Assyrian islands... But guess what, it's 21st century and we are not living in history books. Also this is a song competition, it's not "best neighbour" competition. You are supposed to vote for the best song, not your most favorite country.

Then the Ottomans occupied the Balkans for more than three centuries. At that point the majority of population, still remained Greek . Later Cyprus was placed under the UK's administration based on the Cyprus Convention in 1878 and was formally annexed by the UK in 1914. There were still two prominent ethnic communities, Greek Cypriots, who made up 77% of the population in 1960, and Turkish Cypriots, who made up 18% of the population. After this point, unfortunately both sides made many mistakes in a social, potical and humanitarian level, causing pain to each other. I wish all Cypriots leave happily together, without taking under consideration the nationality. Indeed eurovision is not a neighborhood competition however i used to love turkish songs and even felt happy everytime turkey would be on the top as well as Cyprus of course. I just tried to justify why we Greeks feel so closed to Cyprus without meaning that we don't love the turkish Cypriots as well! 🇹🇷🇨🇾🇬🇷❤️ Thank you for your comment.

Thank you so much, I also love your country (incidentally, here in Greece, when we refer to Italians we say "una fazza una razza" because we feel we are very much alike, not to mention that we also share the same Mediterranean temperament). Volare is one of my all time favorite eurovision songs. I am so glad that Italy finally got to win ❤️

Not really, cyprus and greece give each other 12 points way more often than finland gives 12 points to sweden. You can see it in sweden's version of this. But when you look at finland's version, there's not a whole lot of 12 points given from sweden to us.

Graham Norton uses an ironic and sarcastic way of commeting and, while it is not my cup of tea, I respect it. In the other hand, Wogan was just rude.

You now have other countries copying his style of naughty comments but we were first and now in the able hands of everything that is Eurovision we have the genuis of Graham Norton. The UK may never win another Eurovision again but we win every time with the comments from Graham and Sir Terry, even the other countries recognise that.

Greece and Cyprous are different countrys but the same nation . So why is it a surprise ? It wouldn't be if you all knew this critical "little" detail . But some people also are making a fuss for something so common in Eurovision. The Scandinavians prefer other Scandinavians, Balkan countrys with a majority of muslims prefer other Balkan countrys with muslims , Former Soviet union countrys prefer , former Soviet Union countrys, Moldova gives to Romania and the opposite etc. Learn to live with it and go on...
