It would be interesting to do a video of what machines and equipment you see yourselves changing over the next few years. Similar to the video of what changes you'd make in the yard
Farmer Phil a hope you guys smash it out the park this year and everything goes well for the whole family. Hope bro keeps at the farm work as well. It’s good to see his progression over past few years. He makes a good cameo in your vids as he a funny guy. Ma pal used to work on a farm from 14 on his dads pals farm. He said it was hard work. Now with watching all the farm vids a see what he was saying. When a was young used to watch the farmers make square bales small bales but the smell takes me back to those days in 80s every. Every year it’s the manure spreading to the grass cutting always takes me back in my mind. The summertime you can’t beat it
@@johnnyflat2138 That struck me also...surely it is better to maximize margin on limiting factor farm wide...there is also an opportunity cost in growing feed vs growing beef.
dropping all rented land and cease growing crops on heavy land in co longford would make more economic sense .a good quality bought in ration would probably be cheaper than this home grown ration if all costs were included especially as yields are far below what is achieved in traditional cereal growing regions . the reduction in workload would be a huge benefit.
@@johnnyflat2138 There's a lot to be said for piece of mind, greater control and a larger spread of the costs. To take your thinking to an extreme, you'd be wise put up a beef finishing unit and buy in all feed. The opposite to that would be all organic self sufficient setup. There are enough people doing both, it is personal preference in fairness. Unfortunately the grants and subsidies plays hell with any normal logic of efficiencies. With these uncertain times you can't rely on the market to be stable and provide cheap soy forever and when you've got the likes of beef producers buying animals, you get no fluctuation in price to reflect costs. I'd say as well for Phil selling farm to fork, it'd be nice to assure a customer it's not being fed on foreign grain.
Great vid, great team work, I grew up on a veg and tillage I taught it was just keep the cattle fed: a bit more in it. I hope the bulls kill out good so you 100% grow your own pays off. Best of luck.
The meal bill is already paid before we start killin, I have been at this game since I was a lad and I am older than Derek but I have never been able to make a statement like that, in fact sometimes the killing is finished and the meal bill still hasn’t been paid off, I often wonder who makes more out of them, me or the miller. If you are able to get them into any sort of grade and with enough cover which by the looks of them you will, you are on a winner. The speckled parks look particularly good by the way.
All the best to you with efficiency we just love watching our favourite farmer’s it’s been very wet here nothing but rain ☔️ it must be very satisfying to know you are so efficient.Good luck to all 😅 go and watch you now .🐷🐷🐷🌈🌈🌈☔️☔️☔️☔️🤞🤞🤞☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️💯💯💯💯💯💯
Please tell me what's the name of this farm and where is it? It's been my childhood dream to visit farms like this!! Whenever I can't sleep, I always imagine sleeping in a barn next to hays... and it never fails Me !!
Phil regarding your comment about cattle wont be as heavy as last year, some meat plants don't want big heavy animals for consumer reasons i.e fitting the steaks, roasting joints etc. into the plastic containers.
Aup phil i think it's time for abit of christal 8011 action they usually start of the button so a good feeder tractor yes big girl i know but very surprising where the old girl will go 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
If you add up all your costs such as diesel, seed etc in producing your own feed, how much would you reckon you save compared to going out and buying the feed?

fair play too yous not many farmers can say there are 100 per cent self-sufficient👌
Not many farmers do it because its an incredibly inefficient use of land, especially rented ground.

@@ando5899 What piece of mind & control?
If another year like 2016 comes the home grown crops will be a total disaster.

Great vid, great team work, I grew up on a veg and tillage I taught it was just keep the cattle fed: a bit more in it. I hope the bulls kill out good so you 100% grow your own pays off. Best of luck.

Phil you should buy the loading shovel when it works so well. It would make life on the farm much easier.
How much does the thing cost, though? It looks really good quality, but also expensive.
Well done some fine bulls there
