I've been cooking Al's recipes for a few months now. Done the bhuna, the pathia, the ceylon, the vindaloo, and the chasni. Every one of them is an absolute banger, proper restaurant taste and texture. Can't recommend these curries highly enough. Once you get started by accumulating the spices, getting the right kind of pan, making your first batch of base gravy... the rest is a piece of cake. You can be knocking out incredible curries at the drop of a hat. The dhansak is on the menu for tomorrow! Thanks Al!!
During this Lock-down, I have been inspired by these videos Al. I have always prided myself on my ability to be able to cook egg and chips for England, and added a few heated baked beans and, now and again, do the odd baked spud with Butter or Tuna and Mayo. After watching a couple of your vids, I ordered a selection of spices from Amazon and a pan, made your base gravy and wow......... my wife loves me again ! I now cook curries at least 3 times a week.
I have just made this, it’s my first curry from your channel and it was better than any Dhansak I have had anywhere, I am absolutely blown away by it !! Well done.
Made base gravy 1 as I didn’t have all the ingredients for 2 and then this was my first recipe with it - absolutely spot on! You’ve changed my curry life Al! Keep up the great work. From Galway, Ireland via John Robins
Hi Al, Like many I guess, I discovered you through John Robins. I made your base gravy a couple of weeks ago and since then we (my family of 5) have had 3 of your curries, 2 of which were this dhansak. I’m not a bad cook, but I couldn’t believe how easy your recipes are or how like my local Indian takeaway they were. Absolutely love your recipes and the way you do your videos. My 5 year old said I can take the spices up a level if I want lol. Good job man.
Wow, blown away by some of these recipes, made the Dhansak a couple of times and it just gets better. The Bombay potatoes were also amazing. Much appreciated for the knowledge, i feel like after years of cooking indian and it being fairly good, i have now got to another level thanks to guys like Al
First time cooking a Dhansak. Great results. John and Ellis did me a great favour sending me your way! I think this is the 9th or 10th of your curries I have done and all have been fabulous. And that's from someone starting out without a great cooking background.
im trying this today cant wait i am waiting for base gravy mk 2 to finish this is my new favorite channel i really enjoy watching these videos i have been lurking for like 2 weeks checking it all out
Just made this with base gravy 2, and wow. It really does live up to the hype. In fact in might even exceed the hype! 10/10 would recommend! If you’re watching this then 100% make it!!!
Handy being able to keep an eye on what you do with your temps during the cooking Al. At first I thought your 'Full' setting was at the 9 o' clock mark on your dial, but watching again I noticed (right at the very beginning for a sec) it was past that....around the 10 o' clock mark, then you turned it down to do the main cooking at about 7 o' clock. Is that about right for most of your curries? I've seen so many videos where people say to 'turn it up to the max' once the spices are done & the base is going in, but I just end up frazzing my curries (on my cooker at least), so I've found it better to cook around 50% heat!
Made this earlier. Just had a bowl full. Wow!! I've made loads of curries during pandemic, all we great, full of flavour. This one though has got to be 10 out of 10 absolutely delicious.
So happy you're making new content, I'm definitely going to give this a try. I am a serious curry addict and started making your curry gravy and madras recipes about 2 years ago, you have changed my life. I'd tried for years making different curries and never made anything anywhere near similar to British takeaway before, your recipes are spot on. I'm searching franticly to find a better Dhansak recipe now so that you'll come round and cook one for me. Thanks so much from Essex.
@@AlsKitchen thank you for sharing your recipes with us, your videos are great especially during lockdown. Now let's get those 50k subscribers, I really want that naan bread recipe!!!!
Love it. Have cooked a few of your curries, All amazing! But nothing on this one about how much onion, red pepper, yellow pepper. Sorry if i missed it!
Dhansak is by far my favourite curry. I must have ordered hundreds of them over the years. Always read the menu but always order a dhansak. Some are light orange coloured but I've always found the darker colour ones tastier. This one looks more like a darker colour one. Ketchup? Never imagined that would be in it. Maybe that's the secret ingredient? I'm going to try this recipe next. Looks perfect.
Wow, just wow. I followed your base gravy recipe. Then followed you chicken tikka recipe which I cooked on the BBQ. At that point I was thinking they are both nice but certainly not BIR smells. Then once I combined those two with this recipe the flavours and smells came together and my kitchen smelling like a Friday night walking past a restaurant. Thanks Al, you're a champion and given me a secret weapon to unleash on future family dinners. Top fella
Thanks Al another brilliant curry. We moved to county Cavan Ireland 16 years ago and so missed our BIR curry we were used to eating in Selly Oak Birmingham and were spoilt for choice. Now we have your brilliant recipes there is nothing we miss from home. When is the naan bread recipe coming Al? Thank you so so so much keep em coming.
Just made this, first time ever making a “proper” curry, went out and bought all of the ingredients this morning, made the number 2 base and then the chicken dhansak........ it was AMAZING ! thank you so much for this video, I’ll be making more of your recipes very very soon !
I haven't found a better dhansak on youtube, but I want you come round and cook me that fella!! Looks amazing, that is my favourite curry, I can almost smell it from here! I have just eaten a rather mediocre weekday meal and am now salivating over that!! Keep up the great work and you definitely have a new subscriber. 👍
What a great dish! one of my favs when ordering .Once you have the right Ingredients set up it only takes minutes to do and tbh it is exactly what i expect from a B.I.R Thanks Al

I'm going to try this one during the week. Dhansak is my favourite curry, I was always told Dhansak must have pineapple/pineapple juice in. I'm happy to be proven wrong however!! Cheers Al! from Saltburn-by-the-sea, North Yorkshire.
Just made this. Put in salt and auger in it but otherwise the same. Tastes really good. Used Latif's inspiration base gravy, but next time will try it with Al's. Quarter of a teaspoon of extra hot chilli powder was enough for me. Keep up the good work Al.
Hi Al, great recipe - Dhansak is a long-time favourite of mine. Here in Greece we can get pretty much all the spices etc, but fresh coriander is not always easy to obtain. I know there is a difference in taste, and fresh coriander looks nicer, but could powdered coriander be used in stage 1 of your base stock and if so, how much would you recommend?
Just started to try proper Indian curries instead of packets which ain’t very good. Just done this dhansak it’s fantastic thank you look forward to doing some more it was so easy to do once the ingredients are ready great stuff mate ❤
