Twitter Founders on Musk’s Tumultuous Takeover | The Circuit
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 чер 2023
- In this episode of The Circuit, Emily Chang speaks with two people who know Twitter better than almost anyone: Co-Founder and former CEO Evan Williams and one of the most critical members of the founding team, Jason Goldman. They reflect on Elon Musk’s takeover, Silicon Valley’s new era of austerity, and the future of social media. Chang also sits down with former Twitter employees to hear about their experiences before and after Musk’s deal-or-no deal rollercoaster. (Note: At 9:06, the timestamp should be April 17, 2009 - not April 16, 2014.)

It was Jack's job to maximize shareholder value. And he did that. He got the best deal shareholders could have ever imagined.
Exactly!
Is that what Jack's reasoning to support the sell of Twitter to Elon Musk?
I really think he is just a super idealistic and naive person.
@@duke2306 that's literally the responsibility of every founder and CEO . You're really slow
@@bindutiwari4263 I was asking a sarcastic question. Maximum shareholder value wasn't Jack's claim so unless you can prove otherwise then it's just conjecture. This doesn't make me NOT slow as I definitely can be.
Jack Dorsey says Elon Musk was the 'only alternative' for Twitter because it would have 'never survived' as a public company. Jack Dorsey said Elon Musk had been the "only alternative" to Twitter falling into the wrong hands. -BusinessInsider
Evan paying for the Dalai Lama's blackberry was the highlight :D
I love how Emily Chang runs her interview. Very smart questions and great feedbacks
This new show is the best thing that Bloomberg ever did. Thanks Emily!
Agreed
Emily Chang is the best interviewer. I love her facial expressions
agree 100%
It’s hard to imagine Emily Chang actually scripts these questions… she would be an excellent talk show host ❤

I was going to say this seems very AI generated
Wow. I'm shocked by how mature these guys are. They seem so... human. ❤
And of course Emily is awesome!

Is she trying to do sign language with every question?! Stop flopping around constantly 😂
These guys are really a breath of fresh air. They are saying what I think the majority of people are thinking.
Man editing tweets really did take 10 years huh
RIP twitter
This is a really good interview and fun to watch.
Right sir
15:00 He was damaging the company? Lol your company was being damaged from the inside and the stock would not have been so high if Elon didn't put in a bid.
Did Evan Williams really say "Twitter was fundamentally founded on humor"? Cause then, that means I was right all the time? (I have research on Twitter humor)
Feels like "old school" of tech
Great inside perspectives

omg the interviewer is so cute!

The cartoonist looks like a real-life version of Tintin
The corporate world made conscious decisions to plant turnips at their annual meetings
Let's be honest, even though Twitter is broken, there is more innovation in the past 6 months than the past few years.
Innovating ways to lose advertisers, alienate people, and invite regulation by saying "hey theres no law against it, so why be responsible". Yep.
7 minutes in and nothing significant has been said
These two individuals were unaware of the immense potential of their creation at the time, little realizing that they had actually invented a remarkably influential tool. In my opinion, they find themselves yearning for the ownership of Twitter, recognizing the monumental impact and widespread reach that the platform has achieved since its inception.
Yeah… they miss the CP…
Fool
Elon taking over and exposing what Twitter DID to certain demographic of people actually make them look bad. Elon basically exposed them. Both seems to be on the LEFT side of political spectrum too. It is crazy how they are criticizing Elon for not doing something "interesting" fast enough. What were they doing when they were in charge? They think Twitter is worse off now than when they were in charge of the company???? Reeeeeaally???? Nothing innovative about allowing142 something characters for tweet and NOTHING ELSE. Only innovation is allowing people to discuss live whatever is on their minds and people actually getting on board with the platform.
These guys are grifters, admittedly saying they were building a for profit enterprise yet the company never made a dime and the only ones who made money was them.
People who complain about Twitter are missing the point. He still allows you to be there.
The government made conscious decisions to plant turnips at their annual meetings
Very interesting interviews! The founders of Twitter look like good normal people, and their insights are interesting.
Truthfully, I've enjoyed Twitter a lot more since it was bought.
The tone is interesting. Twitter wasn’t a financial dynamo. The company wasn't profitable, but to hear them speak, you would think it rivaled Facebook or Instagram.
Wonderful interview! Loved it.
I love their honesty😆
Where is an interview view with the employees that were laid off from the other big tech companies. Why are they so focused on Twitter and Elon musk
Because the corporate agenda is permanently trying to slander Elon Musk.
They weren't kicked out on zero notice with such carelessness and disregard for the company's stability.
Elon musk literally ruined twitter haha, it just continuously gets worse and worse every week since he bought it.
We definitely welcome the proposal of the government and corporate bodies to maximise snake oil and turnip production. That is surely going to lead to the complete and holistic development of the industry concerned.
Great interview! So fun.
Pfts... Jealous much... 16 years these people barely did anything to improve the app.
What about Noha Glass
So Jack was wrong when he said Elon is exactly what Twitter needed, but he was right when he said it all went south? See how easy it is to make things fit the preferred narrative.
Exactly
what are you even talking about
Lol what.
Op is spot on and isn't complicated. This is why mere narrative is so effective at convincing so many people.
@@vicariously4330 Which is why Ego Musk is able to get so many fanboys worshipping his every word despite most of it being BS, He is the modern embodiment of Napoleon Hill.

This series is great, just normalize the audio @ 0dB
the turnips show up on their farm then

These guys are smart, really smart. They created a revolution (Twitter) and the evolution gradually lost it's way. They didn't need to have such a smug undertone, and should have shown more grace. I bet on Musk.

@@grimmx How so?
seems very biased and setup
It's amazing how quickly Elon turned the company around. Sped it up, opened up the AI, removed redundant employees, increased engagement. It's not often you see someone turn around a company like him.
LOL It's that is a wildly naive summary. Twitter is much more technically broken now and that's not sustainable if they don't clean up the functionality. "increased engagement" was achieved by controversy to the point it became news fodder. The platform has alot more work to be done to have any semblance of having turned a corner.
@@Neojhuntechnically broken ? Give examples
@@Neojhun Elon Musk and his team made things immediately better but then infiltrators such as George Hotz came in and Elon accepted him naively thinking that Hotz is trying to help when in fact Hotz works for the corporate Mafia and takes money to sabotage the Twitter system I paid attention to this closely this went on in December 2022. Then Elon saw what Hotz was doing and kicked him out. But by then a lot of damage was done by Hotz. Then they had to fix all of that damage which must have taken them a long time. But it's better now. Hotz does Heavenbanning I'm sure he did that for all social media websites and they Wanted this. Elon did Not want that but Hotz did it anyway because the Mafia wants the heavenbanning of anyone who is kindhearted and says things that stand in the way of the Mafia.
@@sideschissaque5793 Don't call those former Twitter employees "activists" even if they call themselves that. Those are Mafia paid collaborators and middle men.

Harassment and abuse, as defined by these people, is refusing to play along with other people's delusions.
Bloomberg trying hard....
Thanks Elon for wasting $44 Billion on this sxxt. I didn't invest in Tesla to get a slice of that BS, but thanks for doing that. That $44 b would have bought a huge amount of battery R&D, or a few new models. But hey ho, it's only (our) money.
They are all crying
Why the fck did Twitter require a resident cartoonist??
It didn't. If you were able to read, you would have read that he was an engineer at twitter.

Im not on Twitter since Eloon took over. Has the toddler billionaire done his usual Trump like whining and insulting of Williams and Goldman yet ?

Suprised this isn’t getting more views
Bah - the main problem with this is the assumptions that are blindly accepted without even a mention and obviously not any evidence or examples. frinstance how they say that as the owner of the platform Elon can make sure everyone sees his tweets.
This has been known for some time. I have two accounts and I don't follow Elon on one of them but I still see his tweets consistently
Stop it! I'm really tired of Musk.
Love how candid they were! Always great to peek into the minds of the world’s best.
As if the two of the creators of harvesting private data didn't know they were being recorded.....
No. These are too dudes who got insanely insanely lucky and now have an inflated sense of self importance, thinking people still listen to them even though they were ousted from the one successful company they attached themselves too.

It's so sad to see how it all went downhill...
Very interesting, now it's my hope that they're proven wrong, once again like everyone else who has ever doubted Elon to pull the impossible off, the odds are not fully in his favor, but then again that's elons comfort zone.
Mark my words. As Bloomberg continues on this direction of wokeness it will soon lose its base of conservative business focused audience. As we have seen with Bud Light and other brands, companies forget who they cater to.
