  • These poor blueberries look terrible. I’m hoping this special mix of pine bark mulch and Soil3 compost will help. Time will tell if these blueberries will recover.

Those wide squat pots are a great idea.
My neighbor's new fence post installed in concrete turned the leaves yellow on a 30 year old blueberry. It was recently dug up and those shallow roots, after pruning, were 3 feet wide.
An internet search found a bag of 4 lbs. of Ammonium Sulfate, 21-0-0, for $9. at Ace hardware.
Over 500 bags of Evergreen soil conditioner is available at my local Lowes. Their website also indicates stock quantity at each of their stores, although, in my experience, it feels kind-of desperate, driving around to several stores if their inventory records are not accurate.

Next time you’re in carrboro you should load up on that pine fine soil conditioner at Southern states. Bags are cheap.

Oh good to know they have it! I will do that! I never need much of an excuse to come to Carborro!

Ace in VA and Merrifield sells fines. I buy claybreaker from lowes and HD - its really nice tiny bark mulch with gypsom.

Daddy Pete's Soil Enhancer. Premium bark fines. Organic, NC product. I've used Daddy Pete's to amend blueberries for years.

Holly tone is the best. At least for my blue hydrangeas. They look great.

Heavy mulching, especially with manure, can cause higher soil pH. It's the gradual build-up of castings. I hope they turn around for you. My blueberries have had a banner year, though I've had to fight the birds for them.

It’s not been a great blueberry year for me. I had two in a large container and separated them this late winter. But they leafed out early and perhaps should have done it in December. They did both set fruit but the fruit is small and the birds and squirrels have taken most of them. I’m wondering if I can prune them after all the fruit has been harvested. I normally do it in the winter and did do some but I have long gangly branches. What’s your thoughts on summer pruning them? My lowes still had the soil conditioner last I checked. Now I’m concerned!

150 containers wow! I have around 30 and my least favorite task is watering them all when peak summer hits! How long does watering take you every day?

Watering takes at least an hour, not including sprinklers!
