Acres Home Pear Variety Review

In this video I review the Acres Home Pear.
I forgot to mention growth habit and disease resistance. Neither of my two Acres Home trees have shown any signs of any disease or other pest problems.
I'm not crazy about the growth habit of this strain. They don't branch easily. They tend to want to send a single unbranched shoot into the sky. Even when you summer prune them, instead of multiple buds growing into branches, the closest bud to the cut shoots out a new leader which shoots unbranched to the sky again. I haven't figured out how to fix this with either tree.
Acres Home is a local heirloom passed around a local African American community outside Houston Texas called Acres Home.

I had the same problem with the pears I planted last year (Shinseiki, Honey Sweet, Yoinashi, and Juicy Jewel) not branching even with Summer pruning and heading branches. They were planted as feathered trees with a couple side branches. They would just sprout from the apical bud and keep growing straight up. The good news is they all readily branched out on their own in the Spring with the only Winter pruning I did being brining down the central leader a bit. There's now six inch branches all up and down top 2/3rds of the central leader that are hopefully fruiting spurs for next year. I can never tell with pears.

Tornado then cicadas got my 11 trees. So I'm about to live my 2024 harvest through your channel 😄.
🤞 I don't have to prune back too far and I get some 2025 fruit.
No pear yet but will probably plant some pear and plum this fall

I'm in Chattanooga and we are plagued with late frosts. We generally receive about 1200 chill hours in a normal year. I would love to add a late blooming melting sort of dessert pear with good disease resistance. Is there anything you can recommend?

Definitely interested in buying some scions this winter. Maybe trading if you want peach,apple , or sweet cherries
I looked around online a few websites showed up but never used them before so not sure about them

I bought some scion wood from Peaceful Heritage nursery this year and it was good quality. I was pretty happy and will over again next season.
