Uncle Larry never overplays, his playing always compliments the singer. Playing lead or rhythm I don’t know of another guitarist I enjoy more. A font of inspiration. Rock on Buk.
Tom’s playing is of course a joy to listen to. Here’s my question: is this soundboard or a microphone (or an iPhone). Tom’s guitar sound great - and forward in the mix.
@@ianstrike , I took it with my LG Android G7 phone. And of course I was standing pretty close to Tom. (My wife asked why the guitar player, and not Natalie, was the focus, and then remembered who she was talking to.)
Living here in NY, it was a rare and unexpected treat to get to see Tom play live, especially in a relatively small setting. (I was two feet from the stage.) His playing is just so confidant and spot on, whether he's accompanying another artist or stepping out to take center stage. Unfortunately, REM's Mike Mills is obscured by the stand.
@@Skyecracker , I wasn't sure if I was allowed; the PR person said 30-second clips only, so I didn't want to push my luck. But some people did record longer.
@@jimwillcox9431 Thanks for the reply! Huge fan of Uncle Larry's since his Premier Guitar Rig Rundown. My wife thinks I have a crush on him...and well, yes he is my favorite guitar guru these days, absolutely! So when I saw that he was actually backing Natalie Merchant (wife's favorite artist), it was nice to show her another reason why I'm such a devoted fan! Again, thanks for uploading this! Cheers!
My favorite guitarist of all time. He fits right at the top of my list followed by Jimi, Gilmour, Page, SRV. Those guys were pioneers and influenced so many good styles. But Tom as humble as he is , is creatively, musically, and skillfully the most impressive, innovative, intellectual, human being to touch a guitar. The things he plays are just captivating and influences me to want to be as skillfull, knowledgeable about theory and put pure feel into playing everytime I touch a guitar . It’s makes me think of guitar as meditation the level of thoughtful this Guy pushes me to have being aware of what goin on in the music and being where you need to be while still expressing feel and not just being a theory robot
Uncle Larry, you are a magician. This is a great Natalie Merchant tune and you added just the right embellishments. Love the song, love this version. Keeping the rock alive!
I bought Natalie Merchant's records when they came out over 25 years ago, now seeing Bukovac working his magic on one of her songs has given me goosebumps.
I loved Jennifer Turner's lead guitar on the "Tigerlily" record... but she went another direction in her career and seemed not to want to be a lead guitarist... glad we have Tom playing the hell out of this song here.
I used to love this track when it was on the radio, it had something way different-this is a great version, the guitar nods at the original. Great work
Natalie has always been one of my favorites since way back...Still sings great..Is she cool..You were amazing !!! As usual...I like the less is more..You know how to just add the perfect color
I first came across Tom as he was backing Joe Walsh in one of the Vets shows, thinking anyone who plays for JW must have some kind of pedigree.....So glad I did - the man is a treasure, especially his Homeskoolin' vids.
Tom plays any style- does his background work. He always seems to compliment who he’s playing with. If he ever plays with Joe Walsh- he likes his Seconds to crash in like a jazz style, lol.
Thank you for posting this. I couldn't wait for this... and right when they started the song I got stuck in a work moment over the bar. So I heard it, but couldn't see and wasn't really paying attention. We must've spent most of the night standing right next to each other though!
Wish I had recorded more, I was told only 30-second clips were allowed when I got there but no one paid attention. I also didn't want to be "that guy." Great show, though!
The original is one of the most amazing pieces of guitar, because it's perfect and Jen had only been playing for 3 years at that point. She never hit a lick that good again but damn that was enough!
Natalie is awesome. I used to live in Saugerties/Catskill and play guitar with the Linharts. She had a guitarist in the 90s that was a brother to a jam mate of mine.
Is that Emily Merchant? She was a fave for so long. I never had the chance to catch her live. A few friends saw her in NYC, Central Park and said she was a great live talent, but quite temperamental about cameras and anyone not focusing solely on her performance. That kinda bummed me out.

I thought the exact same thing, only adds what's needed and compliments to artists perfectly. No ego, what a legend

Exactly... and his tone is killer, too!

He really makes that old Strat sound great! Tom is a real treasure - thanks for posting this.
Didn't happen to capture the whole show did you??? What a treat, thanks!
Thanks for getring this mate. Rare treat. Two diamonds.

This man was born to play guitar. Every note makes sense. Great player!! 💚🎸

thanks for capturing a moment of Uncle Larry in the wild.
Tom is just a masterful musician. He perfectly complements the vocals and then does an exquisite solo with such great tone.
masterclass
What a super strat tone ,this is great ,like watching your best friend play at a gig

Retained the flavor of the original and added his own twist. Great job Tom!
so good watching him when he gets free. Looks like the guitar is playing him.. true mastery!
Any day you can catch Tom playing live is a great day. Thanks for the share, Jim.
Thanks for this posting. Clicked it for Tom but was uplifted to see Natalie in great form.
Uncle Larry is the best of the best. He stays in the pocket and doesn’t over play

This man IS music
Wow, what a sound on that Strat👍
Perfect nore selection and Tone to die for..Uncle Larry !
Uncle Larry sounding great with Natalie Merchant! Nice!!😀
Tom does great service to Jennifer Turner's original guitar. Her album solo is about as Gilmouresque as it gets. Check it out if you haven't yet.
Jenn turner’s playing is all over that album -lifting the entire excellent album
What's her album? Can't find her anywhere
@@boabglen She was the guitarist for Natalie Merchant. The album is Tigerlily, the song is Carnaval.
Thank You for sharing this, always great to see Tom perform.
So tasteful, playing to the song. brilliant
That’s going to be Marshall someday. Just perfection!!! 👍
"Little Tommy" Bukovac killing it as usual! For a kick ass singer too!
[Wow. That guitar tone!]
Thanx Jim... He's certainly one of my very favorites
absolutely great! He's a genius, I love it so much to hear his sound and his feeling. Thanks for the video!
Storm ship trooper Uncle Larry is rock'in and rolling sounds amazing

Man, Tommy's strat tonę is righteous.
Uncle Larry killing it!

Beautiful playing, and that Strat is killer!

A strat no less !!! great solo !!!!
Very nice. Thanks for sharing 🥰
Note selection 👌!!
In it! Tom brings the goods...that's a sweet strat...used to seeing you play the Senn strat.
I was wondering if they were all playing gear from Jim Irsay's Collection.
Dang you played every note, chord, riff that song wanted and our tone is freakin charmed xoxo
Is that Natalie Merchant??? This is a godlike array of talent.
So good!
Natalie is awesome. I used to live in Saugerties/Catskill and play guitar with the Linharts. She had a guitarist in the 90s that was a brother to a jam mate of mine.
What a cool song. Is that actually Natalie over there singing? Excellent smooth playing as always Tom.
Love this!

Nice! A bit loud on this side. I bet the mix was perfection 🥰
Did Irsay let Buk play any of his famous vintage guitar collection ???
Kurt Weatherby!!!
Really with the music stands? wow.
His guitar tone (and playing) is amazing - able to see what gear he is using?
Fender Pro Reverb and some king of Fender tweed amp. Nobels ODR1 etc...
Ohhh yes, my Uncle…
Uncle Larry

The song is Carnival by Natalie Merchant from the album Tigerlily.
