  • For this video i decided to purchase the cheapest whopper plopper bait i could find on eBay. I took the bait for the local canal to give it a good test and to see if it was worth the few quid i paid for it. It was definitely worth it! I had some great action from pike blowing up the bait and also had a few perch too! Hope you enjoyed. Don't forget to subscribe to see more!

    This video has me amped for summer time here in New Zealand, I managed to get my first topwater brown trout this year of 7.5LB which was wicked. Still think it's the biggest one caught on film on topwater on UA-cam too.. epic content mate!

    Hey man those cheap whopper poppers work just fine. I got a handful of them a while back and I've caught several bass on them. I'm from the states and the only pike around are 3 hrs away up in northern Arizona. Anyway point being they work just as good as my real ploppers.great vids man keep em coming. I follow this channel religiously.

    I’ve had 2 cheap £1.50 whopper ploppers off of AliExpress, they were getting lots of bites and attention. Until I gave my friend a shot and he casted them up trees 😂😂

      Where is said tree? Lmfao all jokes aside how I got my first whopper plopper was retrieving someone's brand new lost on first day 130 bone color . Haha then slammed a 8lb smallmouth and a 5lb in same day. Points grab them from tree

    Another brilliant film buddy. Beautiful stretch of canal you have there. Reckon I'm going to have to shell out a few quid on a couple of those "whopper poppers" (i love the visual aspect of surface takes) my bit of canal here in Edinburgh has a lot of weed making subsurface fishing difficult at times. I've often wondered if they'd be any good in saltwater for seatrout and bass.

    howdo sir, nice spot you have there , some real nice fish too ... I actually bought some of those lures for fishing from the rocks for pollock, haven't had the same luck you had, but I think those lures are a bargain. Nice to see you using them well.

    Ik catch more with my Ali lures as with my expensive ones...they work for sure, maybe they get earlier broken but for a few bucks you get a new one! In our early days we had only a few spinners from Mepps, not more.....😋

    Some nice fish as always. The fish I caught in latest video had red blotches all over it, like it had been kept in a keepnet and stressed out. Not sure what to make of it to be fair, wonder if it water quality, less oxygen etc from warmer weather... I'm just going to be careful, might go back to targeting other fish for while.

      I never was but I saw the cheapo frog and because I knew I had a couple in my bag took them down to a canal that was so weedy it was the only way of fishing it. I had 3 pike and 3 missed miss and it was a decent little session. So I was full of confidence the next time, and promptly blanked.

      @@Ironsmiler on a sunny day, go to reeds or Lilly pass at about 6pm when it just starts to cool down, you’ll get plenty of bites on ducks or whopper ploppers

    Great fun GF but why not press those barbs down especially on those trebles. For the sake of the odd loss it will save damage to fish, make unhooking and untangling a whole lot easier.

    Watching you makes it look so easy.... But I everytime I go to my canal using mini soft baits or ploppers I catch nothing...... Please please do some basic training videos.... Even on how to wind in or different types of set ups is great for us beginners.... Or even looking for areas to plunder.... Awesome show as always....

      Yes great idea. Also for him to say always what time of day as it makes a big difference. He's had more bites in one session than I did in 3 days and I've been fishing 35 years or more.

      @@thepikeangler2022it’s all location man go Norfolk broads I caught 5 pike including my first ever in one session first pike came while retrieving a perch on the float 6lb Fluro
      Switched to titanium leader and lures and had another 4. Where there is prey predators won’t be far

    Take it not many or no boats use that canal? Here in Milton Keynes on the Grand Union they are non stop and water colour is like coffee with all the silt that's stirred up.

    caught my pb bass in Scotland with one a few weeks ago, brought a genuine one back from Florida then ordered some from wish...no difference in quality, if anything Chinese copies have better hooks

    Does water depth make a difference? I notice you fish shallow canals, but the canal near me is 16ft deep in places, and I've never had any success on any surface lure (rats, frogs or poppers) so no longer have confidence in them.

      Water depth makes a huge difference. In addition, water temperature, clarity, current speed, bottom type, habitat availability, and a host of other factors will affect whether or not a fish is likely to hit a particular lure.

      @@Wastingtime689 I started fishing and different canal, different habitat and only 2m depth...... instantly different as pike, perch, chub and trout hit the lure on all of my surface lures. Definitely learning lessons!

    Amateur here and have a noob question. I see that you don't use a wire trace leader and instead I believe it's a fishing crimp at the end? Is that enough protection from a fish chewing your line off?

    you can find those cheap ploppers on aliexpress for like less than 1€ but the real ones will least you longer and have stronger wires and hooks.

    I went down to my local canal today. I used frog lures, micro lures, whopper ploppers, shads, paddle tails, weedless......I didn't even get a bite in 4 hours.

    Pike are not bothered what the lure costs, if you put it near the pike and it's hungry it will try the free what it thinks FOOD.

    Hiya ginge, my local river Tees is in places 30+ feet deep, I've been out on my kayak several times, and I've spotted fish at about half depth, I wasn't fishing at the time just curious as it's almost on my doorstep and I don't get much free time lately, how would you approach a river 30-40 feet deep in places proper urban setting brick walls etc so no shallows you're straight into deep water, any advice would be appreciated, moved from Boroughbridge earlier in the year where quite frankly I was spoilt by the pike fishing on the ure and local canal.

      I'm far from an authority on it, but I used to get some decent pike in a fairly deep river local to me using a deep-diving plug that had rattling ball bearing in it.

    Some lovely fish - however, the pike travelled "50 yards"...........and you watched it?? - you hadn't even cast 50 yards!! - was it coming from the other end of the canal, fully seen by yourself?
