The War Requiem is one of the greatest masterpieces of classical music, and perhaps there are no other works as moving. More than that, it is a work that matters and it seems humanity will never be capable of stopping the senseless slaughter. We are very fortunate that we can hear the work conducted by Britten himself, with the greatest ensemble of performers possible, and in very good sound quality. If ever there was a recording that justified this remastering treatment and the absurdly large presentation box, it is this one. It should not be so expensive but I’m still very happy that I have it.
For those interested, the standard disc is also very good sound and should not be regarded as a lesser choice. It is music that you really should listen to.

Perfetto. Ragione da vendere. Costano troppo soprattutto i sacd, prezzo ingiustificato perché la qualità audio giustifica un solo sacd. Il secondo di prove mono poteva essere un normale cd. Prezzo eccessivo per un solo SACD

Ah... major labels doing what major labels are doing...
Reselling old wine in new wineskins.
I love that recording, but this constant remastering to make people buy it again at full price is just ridiculous.
Back then you guys all stood for something new. You recorded NEW stuff, like this work, which was brand new, with the composer conducting.
Now you are content with reselling 60 year old recordings and signing off mediocre, but good looking talent and try to market new releases of works you have recorded a dozen times already. (Makella Sibelius Cycle. WTF?!)
    Be more bold!
