This actually makes sense. The whole time I was in the Army we never used gyms. We just ran a lot, did lots of push ups, sit ups, and pull ups. I was in the best shape of my life. When people tell me they feel like they need to join a gym, I think it's amusing. Just get out and do it. It costs nothing to run 2 miles in your neighborhood each day. Actually, I found $5 on one of my jogs, so you can even make money at times.
Ok idk what unit you were in but pt is a fuckin joke. Only way soldier will pass their pt test is by maintaining their own physical performance through self training on their own time.
Jodin Dunbar it does make sense when you think about it. I agree. Semi Static gym movements like bicep curls seem obsolete when your main goal is to be a functional human. They are good for rehab though so horses for courses. Good health to all.
I think you're wrong. Calisthenics only translate to movements that don't require force over external objects. If you wanna exert force over external objects like a log 1:33 or your opponent 1:57 you should USE WEIGHTS . You don't need to go to a gym tho , I used to do Stiff Leg Deadlifts with bags of rice
Hello. As a wheelchair user since I was born I find this truly amazing and inspiring. Everybody should move the way he or she can even if the people around you find it ridicilous. I find it really sad that people do not use their full range of motion or they do not appreciatiate the fact that they can move relatively freely.
I'm a thirty-something out-of-shape stay-at-home mom, and I'm moved to tears by this. It's touching a deep longing in me to be. To be where things are. Rather than to do, do, do.
This video is so beautiful and liberating. I do parkour, which is pretty much the same thing. We were designed to run, jump, climb and swim, not to sit indoors and interact with electronic screens.
This approach towards physical fitness answers so much of what is missing in more contemporary routinized training- integration with natural environments, natural movement, and childlike exhiliration through exploring. Great work.
Love it!! The more you learn the more your realize its just healthy to go back to the basics..the way your body is designed to work....eat real food, move your body in natural ways..sounds so good...Just wish I lived close to water....but hey I will work with what I have!
That looks like the kind of stuff me, and all the boys I knew did every day growing up in the 1960s...back when kids played outside. Now video games make couch potatoes out of them ! It looks fun!
That was awesome. However, a lot of those workouts are incredibly dangerous lol. Still a great philosophy though. We were NOT meant to live our lives with excess pent up energy, eating crap, and using machines to exercise.
Erik Menendez it's parkour you reach that level when you've started basics. It's like saying I'm not going to school because I can't fly a plane not knowing before flying a plane one went through years of training.
Yeah right, I can also run through the woods blindfolded or levitate & on top of that my body is able to not require food for a whole year :D. More seriously, true my heart rate used to be 32-35 in the morning, but that's when I was training endurance more specifically which is not the case at the moment. Again I am not doing what I do so people look up to me but to inspire people to start inspiring themselves. Start looking up to yourself people, liberate and empower yourself! Power to people!
Having served in the Military, i find the way modern society has turned deeply concerning, i almost feel trapped, in an abstract world of odd responsibilties, at least in the military you volunteered to be told what to do, civvy street is a strange place, we wonder around like zombies, when i reconnect with the wild places, such as climbing, wild running, or just listening to the waves crash on the rocks at the beach, there is this overwhelming feeling that this is where we should be, not slumped at an office desk missing our life, i know we have to work in this world, but where is the balance?
Grolsh22 There is no balance for most people my friend. It sounds like you've reached a level of enlightenment that 99% of the slavish, overweight population will sadly never attain.
Not only would a reconecrion with our wild and natural heritage assist in helping with modern stress and depression, it could help prevent minor crimes and petty squables. Maybe!
@MovNat "The edge is so wide it doesn't affect your balance." How about the unevenness of the surface, the nice fall waiting if you take one misstep, or the incredible sureness of foot to even THINK about making that run? The sheer natural athleticism on display in this video is astounding. The training MovNat has shown me coupled with a lot of other work also designed to make myself a better athlete and not just tennis player makes me train with no limits and test myself as much as possible!
I can never get enough of this video. I love it. It made me start with MovNat. I show it for all my students as inspiration: the movement we are developed for...
I had Native Americans who did, and probably still do shit like this, but they dont give it a fancy name, they'd be like "hey wanna go for a hike?" the difference is that they did it with a smile.
Hey man, you are my hero. I was in the bodybuilding, as I always liked to workout, but still I was not happy, because I did not want steroids or anything else. I wish I knew your training system back in 2007, when I was in the military. Anyway, I am going to follow your program. I am actually lifting weights, running, Jiu Jitsu and yoga. Good to know there are people like you around the world. Greetings from Brazil.
although I love science and technollogy and I'm really looking forward to see the new stuff with what we'll come out in the next decades, having the time to train like this would like a dream come true to me, this video is just perfect and keep up with the nice things you do guys :)
This was beautifully shot, Timothy! Of course, your movement was strong and graceful. Thank you for helping to remind us to get back to nature. We're all still animals deep down... Release the beast! Peacefully Stay, Erwan! -Jeff
@valgez I went to Erwan's workshop. He is not wasting his time. As a matter of fact, people from NASA were crowding in to hear his lecture. Only the people who continue to stay close minded and scared to do something different than what they do everyday are the ones who will not evolve into something better. I truly enjoyed his workshop, and every muscle in my body hurt for a few days after. Not just one or two muscles like when I went to the gym. I mean EVERY muscle. Erwan, keep it up!!!
being in touch with nature like this is great When I go the the woods and do basic things like sprints, some climbing and exploration I feel so high energized! Looking forward to learn more of this moves to later incorporate in my routine :)
Wonderful! Inspiring! I always hated sports, to do or watch - most Americans think I'm crazy. I've been completely sedentary and inactive for years. Was recently in the Sierra Nevada mountains with my son - climbed over huge rocks, crab-walked down steep mountain to keep from falling, balanced on logs to cross streams, hiked, climbed to the top of a 610 ft. waterfall - LOVED IT ALL! After seeing your videos, now I see why. I am a 64 yr. old female. Thanks! I'll try to find a workshop.
@valgez you can totally mess up with your body using conventional gym equipment such as barbells too! It is knowing what you do that is key to safety, not trying to remove difficulty or risk. Skill, experience, but also scalability, moderation or pure common sense is what makes a difference between a movement or action that is safe...or not. Things are what they are, it is your action in relation to those things that generate efficiency and performance or failure and injury.
Basically, we can change our culture in a constructive manner at many levels, I believe in that, and I sincerely see the development of MovNat as a positive contribution to this emerging paradigm that holds the potential to change the world and change our lives.
i just finished reading an article about this guy and his workout. awesome how he gets better results from having fun outdoors than going to the gym all week.
We offer this type of training on the Charles River in Boston and my friend Skye has practiced this for years...I think Erwan is his long lost brother...SO AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
fantastic workout... thanks Erwan. u r an inspiration to every human being in the world. this is much better than any fitness programme i have ever heard. its physically challenging, pure fun, and frees ur mind from any stress and worries. and the best part is.... its self-motivating workout . God bless u...
Ah Corsica! Beautiful place! Thank you so much for posting. Your workout is as inspiring as the environment. Any where that beautiful in the US would be covered with private property and high priced gyms. Keep up the good work!
Oh Erwan, how I miss your motivational input and reading your views on the parkour.net website (it only exists in archive form). Nice to see you're still alive!
I definitely believe that a MovNat approach to daily training would benefit everyone. A friend of mine, and myself, found generic gyms to be quite monotonous, and started doing some simple parkour both in urban environments, and in forests and other places that are unscathed by industry. It has definitely improved my view on exercise.
We enjoyed this video about natural movement. This is they way we used to move. There were no gyms, no weights to lift...... we hunted and gathered and ran after our meals and ran from danger. Being able to navigate the environment gracefully was critical for survival. We love this NatMov movement. Similar to some of the Cross Fit theories in part we guess. We talked about this more on our Facebook and Tumblr Blog, stuff like this every day. Come join our community.
Totally Awsome video. Inspirational on so many levels. I am a barefoot runner & have people ask me why I'd put my body through all of these things. I call it cross training. The reply I get is "why not just go to the gym, you could get hurt doing these things." I just smile.
As an organic farmer, I’ve long considered offering a very interesting workout programme for natural health advocates. It involves all muscle groups, and will also sharpen problem solving and reflex abilities. Workouts include shovelling manure, emptying moving livestock water tanks, digging post holes and repairing fences, cutting, trimming and stacking downed trees, driving cattle to new pastures, sorting, tagging and castrating calves, hoeing and pulling giant weeds, rolling bales of hay to the cattle, etc. It’s much better (and more interesting) than any gym or other contrived exercise programme. Let me know what you think a monthly subscription to this programme is worth?
I knew that this type of movement, natural movement is missing from modern life and its about our natural instinct to run free and make full use of these arms and legs and body. Then I found that youve put the idea into practice. Incredible. I want to participate
Wow, you really got me enthusiast for work out. Never been into gym/indoors training. Played football for 8 years so my knees are kinda in bad shape. And especially my right knee has been acheing from city running. I tried barefoot running in the woods here in middle of sweden. And i must say, never in my life have a runned more effortless. Sure, the pain was there after i stopped running. But not half as bad as i thought it would be. THANKS ALOT! will train my feets/body until summer!
Wouldn't say the "world" has forgotten, just a specific group of us. There are plenty of inspirational natives, people, animals, who live their lives this way around the world. Well thanks for introducing Survival International in one of your posts! Also it'd be super to form stronger Local communities with nature connection and have festivals regularly etc.

Like a said before, our life used to be our exercise we didn't need to go out to the gym or exercise because just our daily life contained enough activity to keep us healthy, now he does bring another point his physical activities will prepare you better for any challenge of our day to day life than any workbench at the GYM Thanks
This is awesome. Love it. My kind of work out. Just being out there in nature. Being close to it. Being yourself. You're natural self. Getting stronger. A lot of people are so bent on Body Building, that they have forgotten the old way. The problem? Most of that Muscle Mass. Is useless. They aren't as strong as they look.
Amazing video. This is how people are meant to be. Instead we sit in chairs in front of computers all day, or sit in vehicles, or stand at an assembly line, or w/e the case is, as far removed from this as can be.
@AmericanSD It depends on the gym and what you learn or train there. From a coaching perspective it can be very useful to have a special place for training purpose, especially when it comes to unfit people for which scalability is crucial in regard of incremental progress, confidence and safety.
The "True Nature" philosophy does not go against the modern world and technologies, but invites us to reconnect to the nature in ourselves, starting with natural movement. It is not about being "against" but about being "for". It is not a "cons" but a "pros" attitude. Always keeping it positive and constructive!
Both are about moving in a way that is efficient, regardless of where you find yourself, but it is true that there is more emphasis on natural environments in MovNat and urban environments in Parkour. The other difference is that MovNat will also involve techniques in swimming, manipulative skills (lifting, carrying, throwing and catching) and combative skills (striking, grappling), which makes it a more comprehensive practice. Last, the coaching system is different.
This actually makes sense. The whole time I was in the Army we never used gyms. We just ran a lot, did lots of push ups, sit ups, and pull ups. I was in the best shape of my life. A lifestyle that was slammed down by industrialism. Respect.
Sad, actually, but true!!!
Agriculture was the baddy. Industrialism just made it even worse
So inspiring. I want to do this every day.

Reminds me of Rocky IV.
This video made me cry. One of the most beautiful things I've seen in my whole life. I would love to be in nature like that :)
Albert Anvil Imagine living at your highest potential. It IS beautiful!!
amen....AMEN!!!
Nature is calling..

It's amazing to see what the human body is capable of when you put the correct mindset and spirit behind it. I can't wait till the DVD's come out!
I have been sleeping on this...so thankful I am awake and mindful now.
Not everyone can do this stuff barefoot running on rocks and climbing upside down on trees this dude is a rare man much power to him good video
I had Native Americans who did, and probably still do shit like this, but they dont give it a fancy name, they'd be like "hey wanna go for a hike?" the difference is that they did it with a smile.
All native people did.
The best workout ever. Only movnat..

Há 11 anos, esse vídeo ainda me inspira...
OUTSTANDING - the movement from training to being.
It is fun, beautiful and complete. I am a newly level 1 certified trainer.
Absolutely awesome!
speechless ... it's good to find people who already did what I do, but thinking it would be almost the only ... at least in Portugal. movnat the best
this is a very beautiful thing to watch. it's the fluidity of the movement that i like. he makes it look so easy and natural. well done sir!
I´m impressed. This seems like a fun way to spend time with yourself in the nature :)
This video never ceases to inspire me!
This is absolutely true movement.
No more words.

It could also be northern parts of California to Oregon

I need to move to Corsica Island. Beautiful.
Wow, you really got me enthusiast for work out. Never been into gym/indoors training. Played football for 8 years so my knees are kinda in bad shape. This one of the best workout i ever seen! good work.
Great stuff! That makes working out look more like playing. I hate being confined inside a building.
Wow thats waht i need just by watching this vid my boring life starts to make sense.
This dude is a video game character, just running around the open world and climbing stuff
Awesome! thanks for sharing and reminding us. i would like to call this "Tarzan's workout". best exersices ever.
Nice feedback. There are many MovNat drills that are very beneficial for grapplers, especially tree/bar climbing variations.
You can see some of them in this very video, however and again, this video shows some aspects of MovNat training in nature and does not show or explain anything about the coaching method. MovNat is not just or only going in nature and exploring movement randomly, there is much more to it!
awesome, just totally awesome, speechless for words, this amazes me
It's a dream of long, long time ago..i was used to do similar thing where i lived,in the woods(but ther's no sea..only little rivers and torrents) liked to felt like Tarzan of the Jungle ;)
One of the beautiful video i've seen, thank you
This video was legit, I just subbed!
Awesome video. Being a traceur, I do very similar excercises but usually in an urban environment. I've always been a nature lover though so this is really just beautiful. The life I dream of living.
Who needs a gym? The outdoors is the gym. This makes Crossfit pale in comparison
what is crossfit? a joke trying to look serious? sighs.
and to attract women to want to be awarded that they are sexy. and higher class than the lower class gym goers.
LOVE THIS, the world has grown with the technology lost the way we were before.
Fantastic video. Regards from Brazil
@MovNat Too right! Keep moving naturally!
I'm in the awesome part of UA-cam again.
I'm on Paleo and I feel like this is the natural way we humans should be getting our exercise and fitness needs met.
I like it - beautiful locations!
Erwan, Thank you for inspiring me to be more creative, I have tried to new angles and ideas to my training, Working out out doors with logs, ropes, rocks ,chains, and a pull up bar seems so natural! I was out in the snow this week training, any one watching probably thought I was nuts! But who cares? Hunter1225
Just amazing. This demonstrates nice that the human does not need anything except the nature. I would like to live like that... Where can I?
Like a said before, our life used to be our exercise we didn't need to go out to the gym or exercise because just our daily life contained enough activity to keep us healthy, now he does bring another point his physical activities will prepare you better for any challenge of our day to day life than any workbench at the GYM Thanks
This vid is inspiring! this is how every human should be... not those who lives on fastfood and other unhealty life styles!!

A lot of people are so bent on Body Building, that they have forgotten the old way. The problem? Most of that Muscle Mass. Is useless. They aren't as strong as they look.
Wish I lived near some of this nature. Untouched, clean and beautiful; would be a pleasure to exercise in.

Of course one could do this kind of training just about anywhere...
The "True Nature" philosophy does not go against the modern world and technologies, but invites us to reconnect to the nature in ourselves, starting with natural movement.
It is not about being "against" but about being "for".
It is not a "cons" but a "pros" attitude.
