I chose the lootbox cause 480 million credits would have taken me forever to save up. It took me over $200 to get that ship. Let's just say I was kicking myself in the rear cause that money could have gone to something more physical and not digital.
I remember when I used to play League in like 2012-13 while I was still in school. Me and a few friends would ALWAYS play together after school. At some point a friend of ours started to buy skins to look cooler than us or simply have his character look different than we remember. It was cool at first, but we noticed how many different champions he suddenly had and instantly had skins for them too. After a few years he messaged me and was really upset. He said that his League account had been hacked and is now lost. I asked him what the big deal was since you can make a free account again. Then he told me that he spent an approximate amount of 2000-3000€ on that account.

Sometimes I get upset with my model train hobby as it does get a little pricy sometimes, but then I see this and I'm glad I have enough restraint to not do this, even though I admit to over around ten years or so I have put a fair chunk into games but have definitely made sure they are ones I enjoy so I don't feel like I have completely wasted money on them.
I'm 27 and had a massive problem with this for several years, I once was addicted to Gambling and instead of having to go out to do it and scratch the itch I could do it right from home with some of my favorite games, mainly madden at the time. I spent over 30000 dollars on the game alone. Needless to say I have actually maintained and have kept myself from spending for about 1 year. Sad I know, but I thought I'd share my story...I'm decently well off and regret it every second, but I never stole or did any of that non sense to scratch my itch. If you read this, thanks for reading...stay far away from microtransactions if you enjoy casinos, another tough thing to deal with is you aren't physically holding money and putting it into a machine, you're just using a debit card which makes it hard to keep track of.
That's how you have to do it now. If you don't say that first, everyone will be a whiny victim and complain he judges people and not just sharing his opinion and point of view.
Years ago I spent probably 20k on GOA. It was a WOW knock-off, and while playing WOW I found GOA, and it’s a pay to win game, and I just got hooked on upgrading my well everything. I was totally addicted to plusing my gear, and change the look, and transmog.
I just wanted to tell you guys, I've played Fate and for some people it's rare to get the five star characters. Fate, is a spinoff from regular gacha game as the characters DONT NEED TO BE LEVEL 5. Also, many lower tier characters can get you through the game. It's more about strategy than the best characters and lower tier characters sometimes are better than higher tier characters.
This is an incredibly important video, I'd even call it a PSA for those still unfamiliar with the issue. This is the main reason micro-transactions and loot boxes exist in the first place and the main reason they'll never go away. Don't get me wrong, legislature in Belgium and now other countries will certainly have an impact on the industry but as with real gambling rather than destroying the phenomenon it will simply be pushed underground. Personally I'd love to see these guys talked about in this video to sue the game companies for damages based on the fact that they preyed on their addictions knowingly and intentionally. Only such lawsuits, if successful, from the whales against the greedy companies stealing their money will have the chance of turning back the wheel. Beyond that, us regular users who aren't addicted to gambling, should simply stop buying these micro-transactions and loot boxes altogether to disincentivise companies from employing these tactics. I can't ask the whales to do the same as they're the real victims here, but the rest of us? Heck yes!
@Dana White's Cocaine Dealer You're ignoring the fact that most countries have specific laws regarding gambling, whether it's outright banned or only legal in certain places(Las Vegas and Indian Reservations in the US). Loot boxes are gambling, it's really as simple as that regardless of how hard the gaming industry tries to deny it. I too hate victim mentality, but in this case we are literally talking about illegal actions, which thus should enable legal recourse.
Sounds like me on GI JOE BATTLEGROUND. I was all in.. played alot. Like xbox got dusty cuz I was playing gi joe or in a group talking about it. Literally broke my heart when they shut it down...
"Hey, so you know how you paid $70 for that brand new game? Well, it's not finished. Can you buy the Season Pass for another $60 and then we'll have three 'stand-alone' DLCs that cost $15 apiece. Oh, and there's some cosmetic skins that we could unlock in game, but we'd rather you forked over another $10 for each." How is DLC better, exactly?
you have to separate dlc from what was used to be called "add on". a dlc can be some crap you pay 15 bucks for and then you get, i dont know, a red car instead of a yellow one. instead an addon is an actual expansion to your main game, adding additional levels, maybe characters, cutscenes etc.
Okay, anybody else remember Knights and Dragons, I remember being in high school and spending like $100 a week in raids and shit and I was actually part of a top guild but we never won as the absolute top tier guilds were invitation only and everyone in those guilds probably spent at the very least thousands a week...

You haven't even scratched the surface on Game of War! I was on a team with a guy who admitted to spending in the range of 50k/month on the game. Now, he was, at the time, the most powerful player in the game, but that was just ridiculous! There is a news report about him and another guy who were always battling for the top spot. I, on the other hand, managed his farm accounts, 12 of them, in which he loaded hundreds of dollars every month to keep them going. Yes...I was addicted to the game, played it 24/7, and had to quit due to me realizing how much of my life was wasted in that game.
I play Rise of Kingdoms....a guy in my alliance told me he spent more than $20k on the game. The most powerful player in the entire game is rumoured to have spent more than $100k! I found a video of him on youtube.
As a player of Fate/Grand Order, I can attest to the guy's claims. If you're a fan of the IP, this game will suck you dry. I once spent $240 just to have a sliver of a chance to get a character I want (which thankfully I got but on my very last 10-roll). This game is worse than drugs. It's a completely legal guilty pleasure. (oh and my consoles and PC have been gathering dust ever since I started playing this game)
Lemme buy your consoles and games. Then you got some more cash for the game you enjoy and I can play some of those good looking games that are out this generation.
Steam and GOG sales are underrateddly the most intense Microtransactions. As I often spend small amount of money on their apps too many times for things (games) that look interesting that I never actually end up using.
The most I've spent on DLC for a single game 50 bucks i dont know how people spend their savings on one game is crazy....but then again i mostly pay single player games
There was a game called Vega Conflict. A few ppl spent over 100.000 dollar on this. There weren't even lootboxes but ingame currency to skip build and repair time in a pvp driven environment.
Steam cards are not really microtransactions, people can obviously sell them and they do so people can level up their steam account but it's way different from normal ingame microtransactions.
st4ck is crazy rich, some kind of oil baron royalty? Or at least that's what I've heard. My buddy actually has him on his friends list, they're not actually friends or anything, but its just kinda cool
I will admit that Fire Emblem Heroes got me for a while. I was spending anywhere from $40 to $160 per month on orb packs for a while before I finally decided I was going to get it under control. Since then I've only spent about $20 over the last couple months. It sucks because I've missed a lot of special characters that've come out, but I'm happier overall. It really is dangerous and I hate that companies do this kind of stuff.
Tomoki nope. The moment the game is shut down, I still have Physical cards rather than memories. I spent DOUBLE that on actual cards and they might’ve outlive DL. Then again I am an 80’s boy, and I can earn my fun with time and effort, but that’s just me.

I can say I've been there having the lootbox addiction. I play Star Trek Online and I saw a ship I really REALLY wanted. I had a choice of saving the 480 million credits and get it on the exchange OR open up the specific lootbox that had a chance of giving me that ship.

This video should get more attention because honestly these people are the reason why devs don't care about upsetting an entire community being greedy. They've got to start regulating this before we are paying for each level of the game a la cart
The gambling aspect might be a good angle for lawsuits and legislation to *END* the practise of microtransactions and loot boxes for good.

Why so short time in prison. Should've been longer.
It was just a minor punishment to tell him "DON'T DO THIS", and the rest of that time was spent doing community service, to further punish AND give back, plus a whole lot of money on top of it. (most of what he stole) in that regard (especially if it was a first offence) the punishment is actually completely fair.
The reason why I have no faith in humanity: People are stupid, really really stupid.

A kid spent 16K on Sonic Forces Speed Battle without the parents knowing lmao
I too hate victim mentality, but in this case we are literally talking about illegal actions, which thus should enable legal recourse.

as long as its cd projekt red "DLC"
you have to separate dlc from what was used to be called "add on". a dlc can be some crap you pay 15 bucks for and then you get, i dont know, a red car instead of a yellow one. instead an addon is an actual expansion to your main game, adding additional levels, maybe characters, cutscenes etc.

As a player of Fate/Grand Order, I can attest to the guy's claims. If you're a fan of the IP, this game will suck you dry.
