This is an incredibly important video, I'd even call it a PSA for those still unfamiliar with the issue. This is the main reason micro-transactions and loot boxes exist in the first place and the main reason they'll never go away. Don't get me wrong, legislature in Belgium and now other countries will certainly have an impact on the industry but as with real gambling rather than destroying the phenomenon it will simply be pushed underground. Personally I'd love to see these guys talked about in this video to sue the game companies for damages based on the fact that they preyed on their addictions knowingly and intentionally. Only such lawsuits, if successful, from the whales against the greedy companies stealing their money will have the chance of turning back the wheel. Beyond that, us regular users who aren't addicted to gambling, should simply stop buying these micro-transactions and loot boxes altogether to disincentivise companies from employing these tactics. I can't ask the whales to do the same as they're the real victims here, but the rest of us? Heck yes!
@Dana White's Cocaine Dealer You're ignoring the fact that most countries have specific laws regarding gambling, whether it's outright banned or only legal in certain places(Las Vegas and Indian Reservations in the US). Loot boxes are gambling, it's really as simple as that regardless of how hard the gaming industry tries to deny it. I too hate victim mentality, but in this case we are literally talking about illegal actions, which thus should enable legal recourse.
I really LOVE 💘 how outspoken you are about addiction in gaming, adrenaline junkies, bullies, gamblers, sex addicts...even endorphin dumpers all can find a hook in gaming . I'm a borne gamer thanks to my pop, and I just love when gamer leaders like falcon use their powers to make good thoughtful videos that make gaming better rather than more profitable. Thanks 😊 🙏
I'm 27 and had a massive problem with this for several years, I once was addicted to Gambling and instead of having to go out to do it and scratch the itch I could do it right from home with some of my favorite games, mainly madden at the time. I spent over 30000 dollars on the game alone. Needless to say I have actually maintained and have kept myself from spending for about 1 year. Sad I know, but I thought I'd share my story...I'm decently well off and regret it every second, but I never stole or did any of that non sense to scratch my itch. If you read this, thanks for reading...stay far away from microtransactions if you enjoy casinos, another tough thing to deal with is you aren't physically holding money and putting it into a machine, you're just using a debit card which makes it hard to keep track of.
Steam cards are not really microtransactions, people can obviously sell them and they do so people can level up their steam account but it's way different from normal ingame microtransactions.
st4ck is crazy rich, some kind of oil baron royalty? Or at least that's what I've heard. My buddy actually has him on his friends list, they're not actually friends or anything, but its just kinda cool
"Hey, so you know how you paid $70 for that brand new game? Well, it's not finished. Can you buy the Season Pass for another $60 and then we'll have three 'stand-alone' DLCs that cost $15 apiece. Oh, and there's some cosmetic skins that we could unlock in game, but we'd rather you forked over another $10 for each." How is DLC better, exactly?
you have to separate dlc from what was used to be called "add on". a dlc can be some crap you pay 15 bucks for and then you get, i dont know, a red car instead of a yellow one. instead an addon is an actual expansion to your main game, adding additional levels, maybe characters, cutscenes etc.
I can say I've been there having the lootbox addiction. I play Star Trek Online and I saw a ship I really REALLY wanted. I had a choice of saving the 480 million credits and get it on the exchange OR open up the specific lootbox that had a chance of giving me that ship. I chose the lootbox cause 480 million credits would have taken me forever to save up. It took me over $200 to get that ship. Let's just say I was kicking myself in the rear cause that money could have gone to something more physical and not digital.
Steam and GOG sales are underrateddly the most intense Microtransactions. As I often spend small amount of money on their apps too many times for things (games) that look interesting that I never actually end up using.
Captain August I still to this day call myself a dumba** for paying 12 dollars for loot boxes back in black ops 3. It’s when they first put weapons in the loot boxes so the wrench was introduced. I got it with my loot boxes I paid for but I was not excited at all I say it and had no reaction only just the feeling of regret.
I hated myself for preordering Fallout 76. It was the first game I ever pre-ordered and I swear that now I will always wait until release with any game.
Fate GO is a nice game. The description you gave about the character that he spend a lot of money to get to lv is kinda wrong. He payed to get the characters Special Ability to lv 5. Depending on the rarity of the character (from 1 to 5) can be leveled up from lv 1 to 60 for 1 star characters and from 1 to 90 for 5 star characters. Paying for the "loot box" system is fully optional. The game gives enough SQ (a premium currency for rolling the gacha) to roll the gacha. The story can be beaten with 1 to 3 star characters. The story and soundtrack are amazing.
You haven't even scratched the surface on Game of War! I was on a team with a guy who admitted to spending in the range of 50k/month on the game. Now, he was, at the time, the most powerful player in the game, but that was just ridiculous! There is a news report about him and another guy who were always battling for the top spot. I, on the other hand, managed his farm accounts, 12 of them, in which he loaded hundreds of dollars every month to keep them going. Yes...I was addicted to the game, played it 24/7, and had to quit due to me realizing how much of my life was wasted in that game.
I remember when I used to play League in like 2012-13 while I was still in school. Me and a few friends would ALWAYS play together after school. At some point a friend of ours started to buy skins to look cooler than us or simply have his character look different than we remember. It was cool at first, but we noticed how many different champions he suddenly had and instantly had skins for them too. After a few years he messaged me and was really upset. He said that his League account had been hacked and is now lost. I asked him what the big deal was since you can make a free account again. Then he told me that he spent an approximate amount of 2000-3000€ on that account.
I play Rise of Kingdoms....a guy in my alliance told me he spent more than $20k on the game. The most powerful player in the entire game is rumoured to have spent more than $100k! I found a video of him on youtube.
4:50 Had struggled with gambling before but really manifested with the toxicity that is mobile games. Eventually realised i had a problem after spending over $600 on a single game. Now if i want a game but they have randomized progression, i have to bar myself from them just as a precaution. After i turned 21 i knew there was a very real chance my addiction could spiral and cutting off addictive games is a safety precaution for my future. (Like how recovering alcoholics will avoid bars) unfortunately that means a lot of games are off limits. Note: MTX is fine, it's the randomization of loot that's my trigger.
That is really why they should not be allowed to have micro transactions. I bought once in gta so I could buy the ceo business in gta, I didn't want to grind for it in boring missions but I bought the least expensive and never more. I'm really thinking about what I do because it's a trap for sure, I just know if you accept it once, twice and just can go out of control when you lost a big amount of money on worthless digital stuff, you could have used more productive in real life. Digital stuff you probably will loose because all games die one day and we move on to the next games.
Years ago I spent probably 20k on GOA. It was a WOW knock-off, and while playing WOW I found GOA, and it’s a pay to win game, and I just got hooked on upgrading my well everything. I was totally addicted to plusing my gear, and change the look, and transmog.
My ex spent literally thousands of dollars a year on games like that. Didn't matter what I told her or how I tried to reason with her. It's a very real issue.
Tomoki nope. The moment the game is shut down, I still have Physical cards rather than memories. I spent DOUBLE that on actual cards and they might’ve outlive DL. Then again I am an 80’s boy, and I can earn my fun with time and effort, but that’s just me.
I just wanted to tell you guys, I've played Fate and for some people it's rare to get the five star characters. Fate, is a spinoff from regular gacha game as the characters DONT NEED TO BE LEVEL 5. Also, many lower tier characters can get you through the game. It's more about strategy than the best characters and lower tier characters sometimes are better than higher tier characters.
Sometimes I get upset with my model train hobby as it does get a little pricy sometimes, but then I see this and I'm glad I have enough restraint to not do this, even though I admit to over around ten years or so I have put a fair chunk into games but have definitely made sure they are ones I enjoy so I don't feel like I have completely wasted money on them.
I stole 1.5k for fifa 14 worked over 300 hours for money by raking leaves in Ohio we had 4 huge trees in front and probably 27 trees in backyard 2 acres of land
There are whales in the game "Ragnarok Online Mobile" who routinely spend the equivalent of $40K almost weekly on in-game auctions for rare cards (you can equip cards in your equipment to make you have special effects, like +15% damage towards x elemental type). They do it as a way to brag lol. Most of them are SEA players, but it does happen in the NA servers as well.
This video should get more attention because honestly these people are the reason why devs don't care about upsetting an entire community being greedy. They've got to start regulating this before we are paying for each level of the game a la cart
The most I've spent on DLC for a single game 50 bucks i dont know how people spend their savings on one game is crazy....but then again i mostly pay single player games
As a player of Fate/Grand Order, I can attest to the guy's claims. If you're a fan of the IP, this game will suck you dry. I once spent $240 just to have a sliver of a chance to get a character I want (which thankfully I got but on my very last 10-roll). This game is worse than drugs. It's a completely legal guilty pleasure. (oh and my consoles and PC have been gathering dust ever since I started playing this game)
Lemme buy your consoles and games. Then you got some more cash for the game you enjoy and I can play some of those good looking games that are out this generation.
Fate Grand Order is not P2W but rather play for waifu. Honestly, the game itself still has none paying players friendly aspect where we don’t need to pay to progress. Need more research there
I worked at a credit card company a few years ago and some woman in her 40s called up. I was going through her statements and transactions with her and she was spending 500-1000£ per day on in app purchases for a virtual casino game which you couldn't cash out with real money. These transactions went back a few months so I'm guessing she'd be close to this list! 😂
Old video, new comment: watching this did not make me feel any better about my mother spending all of her retirement and much of my dads monthly paychecks on mobile strike a few years ago, where she became one of the top players, and began a sort of extramarital affair with another top player. It turned my entire family upside down and inside out and we’ve never really healed ever since (despite years of effort and therapy)

EA: I want those people playing our slot machi~ er.. games

@@argentpuck ok take it easy man

as long as its cd projekt red "DLC"
you have to separate dlc from what was used to be called "add on". a dlc can be some crap you pay 15 bucks for and then you get, i dont know, a red car instead of a yellow one. instead an addon is an actual expansion to your main game, adding additional levels, maybe characters, cutscenes etc.

The biggest problem is the fact that you can spend that much in these games. What the hell are you getting for 1 million dollars?
Steam and GOG sales are underrateddly the most intense Microtransactions. As I often spend small amount of money on their apps too many times for things (games) that look interesting that I never actually end up using.

Charlie Odom i play empire z and have heard of guys maxing credit cards and blowing paychecks on it.
