I was thinking exactly the same. No club with any sense would spend 50m on a 32 year old player who is at the end of his career(apart from Saudi clubs). And West Ham wouldn't have 50m to spend on one player anyway. 50m is probably their total transfer budget for the next 2 years 😂😂.
As a villa fan its a shame he didn't hit the heights we were expecting him to hit and although he wasn't always played in his preferred position, he did have alot of chances to show his ability but didn't take his chances like Bailey had, n the pressure seemed to of got the better of him, instead of using the pressure to kick on, if a player wants to go n ain't fully with the team then it's best he goes, great bit of buissness for us and can now focus on other areas, it also shows if your not with us unai won't waste time keeping an unhappy player around no matter the price tag and will do what's best for the team, I wish him well on his new adventure but life goes on... I'm glad he's gone, he wasn't that good, let's face it. I think the Premier League was a step too far for him, so he'll be more suited to the Saudi league. And rumours are that he wasn't that well liked by most of the Villa players either. We need to reinvest the cash in top drawer CB or RB. And if Duran goes, we need to aquire another striker as back up for Ollie.

No one said he was ageing. They said the Saudi league are now signing younger players still in their prime instead of older players looking for one last payday. And he's actually 25, not 24. And we're not in America, so it's AGEING not AGING.
If the Saudi league is smart they’ll set up academies in Africa and Asia, tap into the talent that can be developed there and grow their league that way. They’ll also want to play in the champions league at some point too or launch a revamped version of it that includes asia
We're tied with japan with 3 Asian Cups & the Saudi league was and still is the best league in Asia. The highest scoring player in Asia's history is Majed Abdullah, bro we're not new to the sport. al Ittihad was born in 1927 for gods sake.

I find myself questioning what Crook actually knows, other than what he reads on 'socials' - he claimed to be In The Know that Steve Cooper was getting the sack in December 2022 - he was given a new contract a week later. The ONLY football journalist whose views and tip-offs I trust is that Fabrizio Romano (?) who IS connected.
As usual, ignorance prevails in the Western media when talking about the Saudi League. Firstly, good players do not necessarily only come from the Premier League. There are many excellent players who moved to Saudi Arabia from other leagues. Secondly, most of the foreign players who moved to Saudi Arabia last season were under 30 years old, and finally, Al-Ahly wanted to get rid of Maximand, not the player who wanted to leave the club. Al-Ahly also wants to get rid of Demiral and Freminho because they want to sign other players and they are focused on signing with Lookman from Atalanta. As for Henderson, the best thing that happened to Al-Ettifaq Club was the exit of this player because after Getting rid of him, the club was able to sign three foreign players, such as Fofana, and the team’s level improved greatly after Henderson’s departure.
Good biz for all parties. Diaby and his family have an interest in being in Saudi Arabia for religious reasons. And will be reunited with French compatriots. Villa now have a glut of wide midfielders that can compete for time. Diaby didn't suit the tactics Emery was trying to employ by season's end. And everyone makes money!

You have to question any player going to Saudi below the age of 30. It just shows they don't really care about doing anything in their careers. They just want the wedge.
He was a great player and I always wanted to see what happened when him and Bailey were on the pitch together on opposite wings but we never really got to see that.

@@adywolf8254 The point that went over your head was that without such players (having been injured all last season), there was little cover for squad rotation towards the end of the season, when most of the first team players were running on fumes, having played so many games.
For much of the season Aston Villa's points-per-game was right up there with Arsenal and Man City. But missing the cover of those experienced players at the end of the season, made Villa drop down towards Spurs. That shouldn't happen this season with the extra squad depth.
So no actual news just comments on available news articles

Glad he's going to be honest. Expected a lot more from him, but he's a timid player on the pitch who, even when he scores or assists, doesn't redeem himself from an often dismal performance. Him leaving the club just tells me that he lacks ambition and gave the Premier League a go, only to find out he can't cut it 🤷♂ I'm sure he'd have had a better season this time round and I almost always give players the benefit of the doubt in their first season, but what else am I/the Villa fans supposed to make of this, leaving after one season? I'll happily take the money with hope that we can buy better.

Do you know how many times ManCity pass the ball back to Ederson and he has to read the game and spray long passes/play tiki taka passes like a Spanish midfielder?
With the number of touches, dribble and passes that he has, he is one of the least bored goalkeeper.
Especially he has to dictate the tempo, keep making decisions on who to pass to, whether he should pass it long/short, fast/slow, while the opponent strikers are pressing him.
He has to be extremely focused because every touches, close control, and passes for him has to be perfect.

What are you going on about? They're paying £50m which is the price Villa's fee could have itself risen to with addon fee criteria being met.
Before We signed him Leverkusen had been demanding higher fees.
The Saudis are paying him £20m a year on a 5 year deal which means they themselves value him at £100m before a fee is even paid.
Tbh as I type, I'm less understanding of why I bothered - so ridiculous is the comment I'm responding to.
@outofthetrash5925 Newcastle was not allowed to sell Allan St Maxi for £25 million or it would have been investigated, and he is better than Diaby. So if the Prem are not interested in players being bought and sold for over inflated prices to deal with PSR, sales like this should be investigated so everyone is aware there is no funny business taking place.
Or just be honest and let the world know that only Newcastle can't sell players for high fees.

They assumed any large fee would be investigated. He only had 1 year left on his deal, was older, up for sale and Newcastle essentially had the same owners.
If you assume the ASM deal to be low take ot up with Newcastles Saudi owners. Perhaps you should call for investigion of a fee where a Saudi club benefited from having having insiders in a PL club that could sell them players below market value - though to me that fee was about right - player value is not determined solely on player ability.
ASM is not a better player than Diaby but that discussion is almost void here anyway.

Had to sell Luiz as he wasn't signing a new deal and sold Diaby, who starts from the bench, for a profit. Not sure they could have sold them much better given the circumstances. It's a bonus that they haven't made any prem clubs stronger
