Shadowbane recoiled, shielding his face and eyes from the light. The last thing Margo remembered before being pulled back into the safety of the treehouse was a sudden flash of light and Lily's lifeless face, a haunting image that left her in tears. Freed from the vision's hold, she found herself back in the treehouse, her cheeks wet with tears. Ari and Lily embraced her in silent consolation, their hearts heavy with the weight of her suffering, understanding the depth of the horror she had faced alone in the darkness.”
