I may be way in my early 20’s. But I don’t care who tells me what. I’m bringing back western fashion. Western apparel just looks good, formal, and American.
It's not even a fashion thing. These are just practical and work better than nothing else.. And unlike everything else these days, these jackets actually last. Mine is from 1980 and still keeps me dry. Couldn't care less about what I look like to other people.
Bought my duster about '96, or so, best purchase of my life, as far as jackets go. Wore it just today, and still love its style and utility. Get you one.
I have one; horse riden in it for a couple of decades on cold rainy days and served me well. The concept originates in Europe, not in Australia. You see it depicted in cavalry units since XVIII and even XVI centuries and also amongst both civilian and military navies of the time. Video:👍🏻 Bless good old School!
Travelnursing in Forks, WA, one of the rainiest places in the country and I love mine. It is lined and I wear it over a North Face fleece liner for a perfect winter combo
I used to have something very similar many years ago. Was a great coat. Starting to see what you meant about the Sherlock Holmes look you mentioned on your 3 pipe video 😂.
I got a fishing boat . Looking at some old fishing photos and saw some people where this jacket my dad told me its a harbor men jacket but the new ones suck so the closest i can get is a dusters jacket . I might work on making it look like the one from fallout 4 far harbor
Originally designed for sitting on a horse, hence the length and the leg straps. I have had one for ages too, I like it because unlike shorter jackets the rain does not run off onto your thighs which then get soaked., worn with a pair of wellies and a good hat and you are covered from head to toe. Can be rolled up neatly as well.
They are great on a bike. Just make sure you get the version with the leg straps inside. I have one with a plit tail that has a thigh height strap and a lower strap at ankle height strap. The idea being for riding a horse it can be worn almost as a pair of impromtu chaps and it keeps from getting caught in the back wheel of the bike.
The oil skin material was invented by a Kiwi by the name of Edward Le Roy, who served on sailing vessels. The duster or riding coat originated in Australia using Edward's method of treating cotton material, to make water resistant.
Alright, seeing it being worn and hearing how much you like it… I’m gonna pull the trigger and get me one. I’m gonna get the unlined one as well. I need something to go feed the cows on rainy days. I already have an outback trading oilskin outlaw styled cowboy hat, so when the zombie apocalypse hits, I’ll already be styling from the very start, most survivors go thru several seasons before they get a really cool jacket like this… btw, what would you rate the bite-resistance of the sleeves?
My father asked me to pick out any coat. I picked this with the liner. Like you I've had it for 12 years in FLX NY. Lots of hills and lakes and snow. NO BETTER COAT!!
It’s oiled/waxed COTTON- that’s what makes it oilskin and not waxed fabric. It’s far more durable than just waxed fabric… I have some waxed items and it’s a totally different feel altogether… I actually make my own mix and oil/wax my own stuff occasionally… I’m in SC as well, but I opted for the new liner with the cotton shell. It’s pretty comfy, and I have a shearling ushanka to complete the outfit🤓
I want one that truly water proof. I work in weather where the rain can come at any direction. I hate wearing jacket and pants because they tend to hinder my mobility and the wind will blow under the jacket.
I have a Driza-Bone Brown Coat. Very Nice Coat. I have Re Waxed it once. The one part that is missing is the Shoulder Cape. I have been looking for a replacement Shoulder Cape in Brown. However, I cannot find one. Unfortunately, Driza-Bone is not shipping out of Australia at this Time.
One thing I'm sorry if my English is bad but I'm using the translator, a few days ago I got one of these dusters that I ordered, in the reviews they said something like they had a lot of oil, I didn't think it was that serious but when I put it on I It leaves the whole body and clothes oily, does anyone know how I can make this not happen or that it doesn't happen so exaggerated?
I own two of these coats in size large.I wear a size XL t-shirt and the coats do fit me with some room to spare so they do run at least a size bigger than your shirt size.
Depends if u wanna get the liner, or layer a lot… my normal shirt size is XL, but it fits me well, especially w the liner in, I feel like a Large would be tight… I’d say u want it big, and to be able to fit over whatever, a tight fitter duster would be strange. A duster is made to cover ur outfit underneath it and keep it nice…
I bought 1 for 70$ bucks my dad was about to tan my hide cause he said they cost like 2 or 3 hundred dollars?when I showed him the invoice he called them ordered him and my mom one to my parents paid me for choring but was careful to watch h for wasteful spending that was dry not wasteful spending lol but they were invented in a US they figured out by putting wake oil on clothes water would drip off then the vaquero adopted it that's how it works they invented oilskin we adopted it we invented the colt they adopted it for for tat
The pipe actually has no affect on my voice. The permanently paralyzed left vocal cord and the trach have an affect on my voice though. Thanks for the concern and thanks for watching.

I have a grey coat similar to this for my Sherlock wardrobe. With the hat too. Lol
Wear this on my motorcycle. Excellent peice of gear
How does that work? I’m afraid to ride in mine because of the hot pipes, and I’m afraid it’ll all flap in the wind too much as well 🙈
this is awesome!

Love my outback duster it is a great bit of kit
I totally agree. Thanks for tuning in. I appreciate it.
Humble, yet knowable.

Awesome. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I appreciate you tuning in.
Drizabone is another brand...
Looks like a great coat for a biker. Cuts the wind, and the wool liner would be awesome. Gets cold early here in Ohio

Super duster. What is the correct length of the duster? Thank you.

Me and a buddy used to wear these back in 1999

Danke für deine Infos.
The modern oilskin garment was developed by a New Zealander, Edward Le Roy, in 1898. Have you oiled your skin? Every 10 years needs to be oiled 😊

I got extremely lucky and just picked one of these up brand new with its warranty card in the pocket for 15 bucks at goodwill
It looks identical to this but it's actually by Driza-Bone Australia and they call it a premium riders coat
I want one that truly water proof. I work in weather where the rain can come at any direction. I hate wearing jacket and pants because they tend to hinder my mobility and the wind will blow under the jacket.
Just ordered mine. Ill be ready for the high desert winter!

The sizing chart on their website is strange… says a medium has a 50” chest..? Are these true to your regular size or do they run a size or two large?
I own two of these coats in size large.I wear a size XL t-shirt and the coats do fit me with some room to spare so they do run at least a size bigger than your shirt size.

Mine is XL size and is perfect w the liner in or without it…
I’m about 5’9” 185… u also want it a little loose for the pistol pocket and whatever is in ur overalls, etc…
Wonder how that one is on a motorcycle? :)
Not sure
I have mine since 1986, rode many a mile In the rain. Lower legs get wet and seat of your pants.

That pipe ain't helping your voice none. Nice duster

LARP
Thank you. I think I'll buy one.
Does it keep warm on the coldest days?
I have an outback duster. No. You would need the sheep wool lined one for that.
