I’ve adored this music since the day the album was released but I’ve never seen a second of the show until now. I’ve always wanted to, and seeing these few seconds of the magic has me on fire for it! After years of listening to the Catherine Wheel I need to SEE this production. Thanks for sharing this!
Same here. I always knew it was the "soundtrack" for a movement piece, but I found the album so strong on its own...great music to slam in the tape player while driving or as something to put on at the end of a day, in the space between work and play.
You can see how the seeds of inspiration for theatrical staging were sown in David Byrne’s mind from working on this project, and how that flowered into the amazing performance of the “Stop Making Sense” live show.
Ah, the late 70's to the mid and late 80's, the height of the dawn of interdisciplinary arts and experimentations in cross-media collaboration: the free-mixing of theater, dance, music, visual art and performance...Robert Wilson, Meredith Monk, Philip Glass, Twyla Tharp, and on and on. A breakthrough that laid so much groundwork for what came after. To have been there as a witness is something I can't quite explain to the younger generation now, but I am so glad to have experienced for myself.
Unparalleled. I treasure the full "Catherine Wheel" DVD I managed to locate, 20+ years ago. "Pineapple" motif is brilliant: cash crop; hospitality; bomb; spiked wheel.

Especially made this connection with American Utopia.
Amazing collaboration.
